Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
She crossed her legs under her and she got comfortable. “Well, first, I want to have Maddix bring Peter here,” she said. I nodded and told her he was already coming. “What?” she retorted. “Maddix had already made arrangements for Peter to be there for the BBQ this weekend. Ya know, just in case,” I said. She squinted her eyes at me, but didn’t argue. “Second, I want to know what they are going to do with Jameson. It’s been over a month, and nothing has been done. The council had already agreed to his sentence, yet it hasn’t been carried out and there has been no talk of when it will. Why?” she stated.
I had no answers to give her, and unfortunately, she wasn’t getting them today. The border sirens started to wail and Buck was in my head.
“Alpha, Damian! We are under attack, and by the looks of it, we are outnumbered,” he yelled. I asked if he could tell by how many, and he never replied. I asked Alette to contact her parents, but she never had the chance. Loki and Liam came barreling through our door. I told them what Buck had told me, and Melian grabbed her to take her to the safe room. Alette refused to go until she knew her friends were also safe.
I begged her to just listen, but I also knew she wasn’t going to budge. Melain said she would make sure she was safe. I linked several of our guards to have them help gather everyone, and Alette’s fathers and I ran out into the pack grounds. There were so many attackers that I wasn’t sure where to head to first. Until I saw Buck. He was in the thick of it, and was definitely holding his own.
As I fought my way through, I tried to find a sign of whom this was and why they were attacking. Then I saw him. Jackson Oliver. This didn’t make sense. Jameson wasn’t at Spirit Mountain. He was in Northern Star.
*DAMIAN POV*
As soon as I saw Jackson, I ran towards him. I stayed in human form to not signal a threat. I wanted to speak with him before I ripped his heart out. “Jackson!? What are you doing?!” I yelled. He took a step back, but stopped. He watched me for a moment before stepping towards me.
“I’ve come for my niece and brother, as well as the rest of his property,” he said. I scoffed at him and replied, “The only one of those things mentioned that are even here is your niece. Unfortunately for you, she has found her mate here and will be staying. As far as his ‘property’, we don’t have any of his belongings. Your brother is at Northern Sun, you won’t find him here either. So, my suggestion to you is this, take your goon squad and leave before they all die.
He started to pull at his bushy beard, and put his hands behind his back. “You see, Alpha DeLuca, you do have his property. At least some of it. All the girls you and your pals took from Ross Lake are his property. He paid for them with his own cash. What you have done is considered theft,” he stated.
I started to belly laugh, and looked him straight in the eyes. “You really have got to be shitting me right now. Those women and children, yes there were some underage girls, are not property. They are human beings. Slavery ended years ago, dumbass, it’s illegal to own people. So, I will give you one more chance to remove your people from my land, or you and them will die today,” I warned.
He puffed out his chest, as if to threaten me. I still stood casually waiting for him to make a decision. Buck linked me to check if I was good, and told me he wasn’t far. I told him to just stand by. I wasn’t sure what Jackson was going to pull. I needed him with the others, considering how outnumbered we were, but I didn’t want to distract myself by finding out how we were holding up.
“What’s it going to be, Jackson? I just heard from my Beta, and we are holding our own, and tearing through your men. You won’t win,” I taunted. I knew it would probably provoke him, but he was so unpredictable it was hard to tell.
Moving closer to me, I told my wolf, Zion, to be ready. “Alpha DeLuca, this isn’t a negotiation. I have come for what belongs to my brother, and then I will move on to take him from the other pack. You know my reputation, Alpha. I always get what I want. This time won’t be any different. By the way, isn’t that pretty little mate of yours part of Jameson’s belongings?” he asked.
I felt the fury rise in me, and Zion kept warning me to wait for him to attack first. In my mind, his saying that about Alette was him attacking first, but I knew what he meant. “You are fully mistaken, Jackson. No one here belongs to your brother. I think I made that clear. As far as my mate goes, she only belongs to me. You can try to take her if you so choose, but you will die trying.” I retorted. I was done playing games.
Without hesitation, Jackson shifted into his dark brown wolf and lunged at me. I jumped out of the way and rolled away from him. Quickly getting to my feet, I shifted to Zion. Zion’s fur stood up at the nape of his neck and he bared his fangs to Jackson’s wolf. I waited for him to lunge at me again, and when he did, I was ready.
“Zion, he attacks to the right. He has done it both times,” I told him. Again, the brown wolf leaped through the air but this time he went for Zions’ face. It made no sense to me, when he could have easily gone to my neck. He bit into Zion’s face and his fangs sunk in just below our right eye. Then it dawned on me, he was trying to blind me. Once I shook him off, I was on top of him. Biting and clawing anywhere I could. I had slashed his face and neck pretty badly, but it didn’t stop him. He was fast, almost too fast.
He kicked me off of him, and I fell back a few feet. He wasn’t an Alpha, but he had the strength of one. He and Jameson weren’t born Alpha’s and neither were those who came before him. Somewhere in his ancestry there was an alpha challenge, and his relative won. Right then, it created an Alpha line that ruled as tyrants and miscreants.
Zion got to his feet, and did his best to keep watch of what Jackson’s next move was. Our right eye was swollen shut, and during our fight, Zion couldn’t heal us.
