Caitlyn. The girl from The Order.
A low growl left my lips as she stepped inside, dressed in all black. Just seeing her again made my heart race. I remembered how easily she’d managed to fool me that day, acting like a poor damsel in distress, when she was actually a little fox.
She smiled, tilting her head.
“You did it, didn’t you?” she asked, looking around the room. “You marked her. The handcuff is a nice touch. Must have been fun.”
“Get out,” I warned, annoyed. She was making my wolf uncomfortable. Restless.
“Oh, I will. I just came here to make sure you got her. Where is she now?”
“With Zane,” I stated.
Now she froze, staring at me. “What?” she snapped. “Why is she with Zane?”
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” I replied. “She’s gonna come crawling to me herself. She has my mark now. I did what you wanted.”
“We wanted you to keep her away from Zane!”
“And she will be,” I replied. “She can never be his now. She has my mark.”
“What if he marks her too? Are you an idiot?” Caitlyn asked, marching up to me.
I grabbed her throat, and electricity shot through my hand.
I sucked in a breath, stepping away from her, my eyes wide.
She froze too, staring at me, her heartbeat ringing in my ears.
I waited a moment. Maybe she’d explain. Maybe she was wearing something for protection.
But she looked as surprised as me.
“What… what the hell was that?” she whispered, studying me carefully.
No.
No, it couldn’t be.
It wasn’t possible.
-BLAKE’S POV-
“What was that?” Caitlyn asked, louder this time. “And how dare you put your hands on me?”
I could barely hear her over the sound of my own heart, and the million thoughts racing through my head.
“I’m talking to you!” she snapped, shoving me by the chest.
I grabbed her wrist on instinct, and once again, sparks erupted through my skin.
Those sparks.
She tried to pull her hand from my grip, but I refused to let go.
She stared up at me, the previous anger on her face melting into a mix of fear or discomfort.
“Let go of me, Blake,” she said, a slight tremor to her voice.
“Don’t put your hands on me again,” I warned, before obliging.
She quickly backed away, rubbing her wrist as if I’d hurt her. I knew I hadn’t. She was getting rid of the touch.
“The… The Order is not gonna like this,” she said. “You were supposed to take her out of town. For her safety. Zane’s pack will be annihilated soon.”
“For hers? Or yours? Because we all know what Lia is now.”
She fell silent for a short moment. “We can still kill her.”
“You will not touch her.”
“Then take her away, before we have to.”
“I will,” I said. “Soon.”
“Why didn’t you already?” she sighed. “You’re unbelievable, Blake.”
“I couldn’t,” I said. “Zane took her.”
She frowned. “He fought you all alone?”
“Yes.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “He must really love her.”
“That’s how all werewolves love.”
She looked at me like she didn’t believe me.
“When the love is reciprocated,” I added.
Now she looked convinced.
“Anyway,” she said, moving towards the door. “Contact me when you’ve left town with her. And don’t take too long, Blake. You only have two weeks before shit hits the fan.”
I gave a nod, and she left, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
What the hell had happened?
Why did I feel those sparks when I touched her?
Was it…?
No. It could not be. It wasn’t possible.
Lia was my mate.
But she had two…
Because she was the Moon’s Lost Daughter. She was special. I wasn’t.
I had to see her as soon as possible.
School would be the best place to do that.
-LIA’S POV-
Zane climbed on top of me, straddling my body. He gently took my wrists, pressing them down on the bed on either side of me.
“What… are you doing?” I laughed, staring up at him.
Zane smiled, his blue eyes gentle. “I don’t like that you’re marked.”
My eyebrows furrowed slightly. “I thought you didn’t care because you marked me too.”
“That is what I don’t like,” he replied.
“That you marked me?”
“How I marked you. I had a whole thing planned, and then everything was ruined because of him. We didn’t even get to dance together,” he said.
“We can still do it,” I shrugged. “You could mark me again.”
“Oh, I will,” he replied. “Of course I will.”
I smiled. “What’s the problem then?”
“It’s not the same,” he sighed. “Lia, do you feel anything for him?” he asked, his tone a lot softer.
I shook my head. “Not really.”
He stared at me, looking unconvinced. you.
“Zane,” I said, “if you weren’t holding me down right now, I would kiss the living daylights out of you. Because I love Not him. Not even slightly.”
A smile took over his lips, and he let go of my wrists. “Don’t let me stop you.”
