“Valda Theller!” he urgently called her name. “You can’t…you can’t jump down…absolutely can’t!”

She was confused. What was he talking about? Jump where?

“You…you let go first, I…I’m not going to jump anywhere,” she shouted, but didn’t dare to struggle easily, afraid of hurting his wound.

But his arms tightened around her, making it harder for her to breathe, and his urgent voice kept calling her name, as if he was afraid of something.

Even this embrace was trembling, because his body was shaking.

The nurse hurried over and was taken aback upon seeing the two embracing figures in the hospital room.

After a moment, she regained her composure and said, “You rang the nurse’s bell earlier…?”

Valda Theller struggled to explain, “He seems to have a fever, could you please check on him?” But

Brian Hart still clung tightly to her, refusing to let go.

“Brian Hart, please let go and let the nurse take your temperature,” Valda Theller urged.

“Don’t jump, don’t… I don’t want you to leave me… Valda Theller, don’t jump…” he murmured.

“Okay, okay, I won’t jump, I won’t leave you,” she replied, unsure of what was happening but going along with his words. “Now, please let go so the nurse can check your temperature and see how you’re doing.”

Finally, her words seemed to have an effect and he slowly released his grip. Valda Theller breathed a sigh of relief as the nurse took his temperature.

“39.5 degrees,” she confirmed. He was definitely running a fever.

Hest’s band remained continued to murmur, “Don’t Jump… Valda Theller, don’t jump…”

Soon, the doctor arrived and Valda Theller asked anxiously,

“Doctor, what’s wrong with him? He’s been talking nonsense and seemed to have been having nightmares earlier.”

“It’s likely due to the fever and previous nightmares, causing him to be disoriented and possibly thinking he’s still in a dream. But don’t worry, it’s just a temporary phenomenon,” the doctor reassured her.

Valda Theller breathed a small sigh of relief as the doctor conducted a preliminary examination and administered a fever-reducing injection and two bags of saline solution. Because Brian Hart’s left hand was still tightly holding hers, the nurse had to insert the needle into the back of his right hand.

“Tomorrow, if the fever subsides, there shouldn’t be any problems. But if it doesn’t, we may need to conduct further tests. Tonight, the nurse will check his temperature every two hours,” the doctor informed them.

“Thank you,” Valda Theller replied.

As they were left alone in the room, Brian Hart’s eyes slowly closed again, but his hand remained clasped in hers and he continued to murmur her name.

Valda Theller wondered what he had dreamt about and what she had done to make him so afraid that he clung to her so tightly, trembling. This man clearly had feelings for her, and she believed have ricked his and called out her name in his dreams?

Would she be able to let go of his hand?

Her gaze fell on their intertwined hands, and she couldn’t predict what the future held. Perhaps she wouldn’t become ugly with jealousy, perhaps he had already fallen in love with her before she became jealous, perhaps even if he didn’t love her in the end, they could still end things gracefully…

So many maybes floated through her mind, but only she could provide the answer.

Brian Hart’s fever finally subsided at 4am, and Valda Theller’s heart finally relaxed. Because his hand had been holding hers tightly, she hadn’t returned to her own bed to sleep and instead dozed off by his bedside.

Although her eyes were closed, she slept lightly and woke up immediately when he stirred. She opened her eyes and saw that his phoenix eyes were already open.

“Are you awake? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?” Valda Theller asked anxiously.

“What happened to me?” Brian Hart felt weak and sweaty all over his body.

“You had a fever last night. The doctor gave you a shot and some IV fluids. Luckily, your fever went down later. The nurse will come to take your temperature in a while,” she said.

“Were you by my bedside all night?” he asked.

She smiled shyly.

He then noticed their tightly held hands, as if he had realized something. “Did I hold your hand when I had a fever?”

“You seemed to have had a nightmare last night. You kept calling my name and holding my hand. What did you dream about? Did you ask me not to jump?” Valda Theller asked curiously.

His face turned pale, and his gaze fell on their hands. His fingers involuntarily tightened her hand. “I dreamed that you were standing on the edge of a cliff, about to jump. I shouted desperately, ran over to try to catch you, but… it seemed like I couldn’t catch anything.”

this dream was so vivid that he could still remember the despair he felt in the dream.

No wonder he held her hand and asked her not to jump yesterday. Valda Theller finally understood the meaning of his murmurs last night.

“That was just a dream. I am not the kind of person who cannot face reality. I will not jump off a cliff,”

she said jokingly, trying to lighten the mood. “Life is beautiful. I still want to draw more good comics and win some awards in China.”

“Really?” He looked at her seriously.

“What’s wrong? It was just your dream, not real,” she smiled. “Why would I jump off a cliff if I’m fine?”

“Then promise me that you will never give up your life easily, no matter what happens in the future. Even if you face a huge problem, I will help you solve it. So, please live well!” He looked at her seriously.

His expression and voice were so sincere.

Valda Theller was stunned. This man in front of her seemed to be making a promise, telling her that no matter how many storms she faced in the future, he would come to protect her.

“Brian Hart, some things… cannot be said lightly. If I really encounter a huge problem, it may be something you cannot solve.

However…” She paused and said seriously, “I can promise you that I will never give up my life easily at any time”

“If I cannot solve the problem, I will try my best to solve it. If I cannot do it, I will find someone who can.

There is always a way,” Brian Hart said. “I remember the promise you just made. You cannot go back on your word.”

“Why would I go back on my word? Are you so afraid that I will give up my life?” she said casually.

“Yes, I am afraid!” he admitted frankly.

She was stunned, staring at him with wide eyes, as if she had not expected him to admit it.

“Valda Theller, I am really afraid that something will happen to you. So, please don’t get into trouble,”

he said, and she… heard the sound of her heart beating wildly.

Brian Hart spent another two days in the hospital before finally being discharged. However, on the day of his release, Valda

Theller had already left early. Despite leaving early, she still hid in the shadows and watched as his parents came to pick him up from the hospital, watched as Brian Hart got into the car, and watched as the car drove away from the hospital. She couldn’t even explain to herself why she felt the need to hide.

Perhaps she was afraid of facing his parents’ awkwardness, or perhaps there were other reasons that she hadn’t yet figured out. She needed to think things through before deciding how to face them.

After leaving the hospital, Valda Theller took a taxi to The Reed residence. She knew that Grace had already been discharged from the hospital and was recuperating at The Reed family’s home.

When she arrived at The Reed residence, Jason Reed had gone to the office and was not at home, and the triplets were all at kindergarten. However, Grace and her newborn daughter were at home. At the moment, Grace was lying in bed, while the baby was lying in the crib, being looked after by a nanny.

As soon as Grace saw Valda Theller, she smiled and said, “Come on, Valda Theller, sit down!”

spend most of my time in bed and has the servants supervise me,” Grace said.

Although she said it that way, her face was full of sweetness.

Valda Theller looked at Grace and hesitated for a moment before saying, “Grace, I have something on my mind that I want to talk to you about privately. Can we?”

Grace noticed her hesitation and dismissed the nanny in the room. “Whatever you want to say, go ahead and say it.”

“It’s… about Brian Hart,” Valda Theller said. “I want to know, in your eyes, what kind of person he is?”

“You…” Grace seemed a little surprised.

“I know he loved you in the past,” Valda Theller said. In fact, he still loves you now, but since she and

Brian Hart are still boyfriend and girlfriend in front of Grace, she can’t say that. “I’m just curious and want to know more about him.”

“He’s a very good person,” Grace said after thinking for a moment. “Our first encounter was on the mountain…”

She slowly recounted their first meeting and subsequent reunion to Valda Theller.

“Valda Theller, in my opinion, Brian Hart’s feelings for me were sometimes more like a childhood obsession. But now, I’m really happy that he’s with you. I can see that he has you in his eyes, and you also love him, don’t you?” Grace asked, looking into Valda Theller’s eyes.

“Yes, I love him. He’s the first person I’ve loved like this,” Valda

Theller smiled. It was because of Brian Hart that she realized how deep love for someone could be.

“Grace, thank you,” Valda Theller said.

“Thank me? Thank me for what?” Grace asked, puzzled.

“Thank you for saving Brian Hart when we were kids. If you hadn’t saved him back then, maybe I wouldn’t have met him now,” Valda Theller said. “It’s because of you that I met Brian Hart, so I’m really grateful to you.”

“When you two get married in the future, you must give me a matchmaker’s red envelope,” Grace joked,

Valda Theller smiled, wondering what her future with Brian Hart would be like.

After chatting with Grace for over an hour, Valda Theller got up to leave. As she walked down the stairs, she saw Jason Reed coming back.

“Valda Theller, long time no see,” Jason Reed said, looking up at her.

“Not really,” Valda Theller replied. “I came to see Grace and the baby today.”

“I see,” Jason Reed suddenly said. “I heard you and Brian Hart broke up?”

Valda Theller stiffened. “Mr. Reed, what do you want to say?”

“I don’t mean anything else. I just hope it won’t affect Grace’s recovery. Everything else is not important to me,” Jason Reed said slowly.

Valda Theller looked at the man in front of her, who could easily turn the world upside down in Emerald

City, but for him, all that

“I think the same way,” Valda Theller said.

“Don’t you hate Grace?” Jason Reed asked. Valda Theller had heard Brian Hart talking about Grace in the hospital that day.

“If I hated her, I wouldn’t be standing here now. I don’t hate her because love is never about right or wrong. I just envy Grace and regret why the person who met Brian Hart when we were young wasn’t me,” Valda Theller said.

“I have the same regret,” Jason Reed said. “I also regret why

Grace didn’t meet me when we were young.”
