he chuckled softly,
“Stop that,”
she laughed herself,
“Food not sex.”
“s*x then food,”
he countered.
“Wil.”
She huffed a little.
“Dinner?”
“Anything but chicken, that’s what I had last night,”
he smiled.
“Pasta would be nice. I’ll even stop and get cake on the way home from the airport.”
And he would. It was her weakness, His wife loved cake. Not even fancy cake, a simple light sponge cake. He’d seen her polish off half an entire cake in one sitting once. She’d sighed it was so good, how could she not?
“Oh, I have a hankering for strawberry short cake. I’ll call our favourite bakery and order it. They always make that, and you can pick it up.”
“Will do.”
he smiled and ended the call moment later.
He sent Marilyn a text message with Anabell’s number and email address. ‘Morning Marilyn, I just spoke to Anabell, and she’s happy for me to give you her contact details. Texting, calls and email she stated are good.”
Then, as an afterthought, he sent another text to her.
“I’ll not inform Calvin that you’ve requested this. I see that you’re on your personal phone. I’ll not tell him that I now have that either. Calvin and Anabell are currently at odds, so she won’t tell him. She was your friend and thinks Calvin should suffer the consequences of his actions. Wil.”
It was a little long??inded, but he also wanted Marilyn to know that she could talk to him about Calvin if she wanted to, and know he wouldn’t relay it to the man himself. He was trying to get her to see that he was also trustworthy.
He got up, showed and dressed for the day and their return trip to Houston. It was already 9am in Houston and 10am in Virginia. They’d be flying out at 1030 and would arrive home in Houston around a quarter to four. By the time he picked up the cake and walked in the door to his apartment, it would be a quarter to five. Going back east across the country made his day shorter, when going west made his day longer by two hours. He liked that, it meant he would still be wide awake when he got home to torment his wife.
He had breakfast with Calvin in the hotel restaurant before they even checked out, and sat??nd ordered flowers to be picked up by him as well. While he waited for his breakfast to be cooked and brought to the table. Smiled to himself as he did so, she liked it when he brought flowers home for no reason other than she liked them.
“What makes you so happy at this hour?”
Calvin asked him.
“Anabell.”
Wil smiled at him.
“She wants to cook me dinner, and so I decided to buy her flowers.”
He stated simply.
“Looking to pull your wife into bed, are you?”
Calvin shook his head.
“Always. She’s already trying to divert my attention.”
Wil chuckled
“I told her what I wanted when I get home. I wont be so easily diverted.”
“I bet she knows what does though,”
Calvin stated.
“That she does. All wives, I imagine, have their way of saying no without offending their husband. She doesn’t usually say no, we’re still good in that department. Seven years of marriage and we’ve outlasted three of her friend’s marriages, and two of ours,”
Wil stated with a shake of his head.
“One of her friends got married about six months after we did and barely lasted a year. I think people nowadays want the big fancy wedding, but don’t truly understand the commitment. That marriage is sometimes a compromise and there needs to be open, honest communication. That it can take work to maintain it. Though less than a year,”
he shook his head.
“Those young ones get married nowadays with the full view of ‘I can just get divorced later if I’m unhappy.’ Or that’s what Anabell says.
“Not me. Till death do us part is my thoughts on the matter. I think 80 to 85% of things can be worked out if there’s an actual real issue. Other than that, if one is loyal and true, they never stray, and they both treat each other with respect, and they have good open, honest communication. There should be no reason for divorce at all,”
he shrugged.
“Anabell and I can’t talk about work, that’s all client confidentiality stuff. So that only leaves us to talk about ourselves, each other and the things we like doing. I think that’s also where the young ones go wrong. They are very self??bsorbed and don’t want to listen about others. No… Active listening I guess you could say.”
“Are you trying to tell me something Wil?”
Calvin asked as their breakfast was placed on the table before them.
“If you feel that way about what I said, then perhaps you know you need to work on that yourself, listening to others and not only caring about what it is you want.”
Wil smiled. He’d not been trying to lecture Calvin, but he could only guess that was what Calvin took from it. Probably a good thing.
