Brian pressed his thin lips tightly, his uneasiness growing.
Valda Theller quietly watched the person in front of her as she gently lifted her fingers and touched his brow, nose bridge, and eventually his lips.
Everyone said men with thin lips were heartless.
However, Brian was not heartless. He had just given all his feelings to another woman.
Valda Theller laughed at herself and said to Brian, “I said before that I wouldn’t do anything too intimate like kissing you until you had fallen in love with me, but I want to take that back. Can I?”, Brian froze. What she said was out of his expectation.
Then, she put her hands gently around his neck, pulled him down slightly, and tiptoed to kiss him…
“Brian, I’m sorry.”
‘I’m sorry I’m breaking my promise.
‘I’m sorry. I said I’d try to make you fall in love with me, but it’s not going to happen now.’
Valda Theller closed her eyes and put all her affection into the kiss.
She never thought she could be with a man like him. She loved him, and the love unknowingly deepened until it scared her.
The more she loved him, the more disappointed she was when she saw him turn away.
It was upsetting for her to learn that he left her because of Grace.
Perhaps that was what loving someone was all about. The more you loved someone, the more you were forced to endure.
Then perhaps you would lose yourself one day.
When the kiss ended, Valda Theller slowly released her hands and opened her eyes.
She caught sight of his beautiful dark phoenix eyes. They were so stunning.
His thin lips spoke softly, “Why did you apologize? I should be the one apologizing to you.” “I’m apologizing because I can’t love you anymore.” Valda Theller took a deep breath before smiling and saying, “Brian, let’s break up.”
His heart sank as he felt his limbs freezing. The icy sensation continued to sweep through his body, and his blood seemed to freeze quickly.
“You want to break up?” He almost squeezed the words through his teeth.
“Yes,” she answered affirmatively.
“Why?” He stared at her. “Don’t you love me? Don’t you want my love too? If you’re upset about what happened today, I can apologize and make it up to you any way you want!”
His tone was so eager as if an indescribable panic was running through him.
Valda Theller said, “I don’t need you to make it up to me. I just don’t think I can love you anymore. I think it’ll be better for us to break up.”
“What do you mean it’ll be better for us?” He did not find it better. “Also, do you think you can’t love me anymore? So you don’t love 1907 121dnu me anymore?”
She said, “I’ll stop loving you, Brian. I don’t regret loving you, but I’ll slowly forget my feelings. Perhaps we’ll run into each other on the streets someday. Then we can have a cup of tea and chat.”
Maybe that possibility would be good too.
However, the more she spoke, the ghastlier his expression grew. “Forget? Do you really think you’ll ever forget?”
“I… think I can,” she said as she met his eyes, not wanting him to know how scared she was.
How could someone easily forget falling for a man like him?
He said, “What if I want you to keep loving me? I’ll treat you better than before.”
However, treating her ‘well’ was not love after all. Valda Theller’s eyes dimmed. “Brian, you’ve been very kind to me, but I love you, so… I’ll greedily want to be the person who matters the most to you. I want you to rush to protect me without hesitation when I’m in danger. I want you to love me the most.”
After a pause, she said, “Unfortunately, I know it’s impossible.
I know how important Grace is to you, and I know nothing will happen between you two, but… I’m afraid I’ll become increasingly jealous of Grace if I continue to love you. Then maybe I’ll do something even I’ll be disgusted at.”
Her mouth was full of bitterness, and she confessed what was on her mind to him.
“I don’t want to be someone like that, so I might as well end this relationship before I get more jealous,” Valda Theller said with a bitter chuckle.
“You said you would try to make me fall for you. Now that I’m starting to like you, you want to break up with me. Valda Thefler, I won’t allow it! Do you hear me? I won’t allow it!” He pulled her into his arms and held her tightly, afraid that the person in his arms would disappear if he let go.
She nestled quietly in his arms, considering it a final perk.
This chest would no longer be hers to embrace!
Valda Theller murmured, “I’m sorry. I thought I could work on it slowly and wait, but I then realized… I need more than affection.
It’s a pity… I can’t make you fall in love with me, but I think you’ll find someone whom you can fall in love with.”
He trembled as every word she said stabbed his heart like a sharp sword.
“So you’re still going to break up with me no matter what I do, right?” After an unknown amount of time, his voice rang out suddenly.
“Yeah,” she replied softly.
When his arms loosened, she knew it was time to say goodbye.
“Since you want to break up, I’ll give you what you want, but you must think it through. Once we break up, I won’t protect you anymore, let alone do anything for you. Do you… still want to break up?” He looked at her with what seemed to be the last hope in his eyes.
Her heart ached. ‘What am I expecting?
‘Am I expecting him to get rid of his feelings for Grace? But he can’t do it.’
She had overestimated herself in the past.
“Let’s break up.” She heard her voice saying.
Valda Theller had no idea how she got out of the hospital or returned to her apartment. When she woke up, she was in her living room with a sketchbook in her hand. The sketches in it were… all him! They were all sketches of Brian!
She had sketched them secretly, or when he modeled for her, or just based on her imagination… She was almost halfway through the sketchbook and planned to wait until it was full before giving to him as a present.
However, the sketchbook had now become a consolation for her.
Valda Theller flipped through page after page of the sketchbook.
In the sketches, he was either looking down, reading a book while leaning against the window, or smiling back at her. They were all stunning… She loved every sketch of him.
Thud! Thud!
Valda Theller suddenly realized she was crying when tears fell on the sketch paper.
Hurriedly, she wiped the tears from the paper with her sleeve before wiping the ones on her face. ‘Don’t cry! Don’t cry!’
She desperately said to herself in her mind.
However, tears continued pouring out of her eyes. She could not stop them no matter what!
“What? You broke up with Brian?” When Camille Strickland came to Valda Theller’s home the next day, she saw her best friend’s swollen eyes and heard the shocking news.
“Yes, we broke up,” said Valda Theller, her voice hoarse.
“Why did it happen so suddenly? Wasn’t your relationship doing well?” Camille Strickland was confused. As if she was suddenly reminded of something, she said, “Did he misunderstand you after seeing the videos of you online? Does he think you’re a mean and selfish person who doesn’t care about your family?”
“No.” Valda Theller shook her head. “No one is right or wrong in this breakup. We’re just not the right one for each other.”
Camille Strickland was flabbergasted. The words ‘not the right one’ could mean different things.
“Who suggested it?” Camille Strickland could not help asking.
“I did,” said Valda Theller. “You…” Camille Strickland sighed. She could see that her best friend did not want to talk much about it. In that case, she would not ask too many questions. She would listen whenever Valda was willing to share.
