She struggled to open her eyes to look for Brian… in the huge crowd. If Brian were here, he would definitely rescue her.
He would save her from this mess just like what had happened on the set last time. When she thought she was about to get humiliated, his subordinates showed up and rescued her.
‘Brian… Brian…’
She kept shouting the name in her head. Suddenly, she froze. She saw the familiar figure in the crowd.
It was so familiar it made her have the sudden urge to cry.
‘That’s… Brian! He’s here! He’s really here! He’ll save me! He’ll save me!’
“Li…” She opened her mouth with difficulty to call out to him.
He was like a piece of driftwood that a drowning person like her desperately wanted to hold on to.
Just then, she saw him pick up the phone and seemingly listen to something. Then, his expression changed, and he turned around to leave.
‘No, don’t go!’
“Brian!” she shouted hoarsely with almost all her strength.
Even though she shouted as hard as she could, she was drowned out by the noise around her.
‘Did he not hear me shout? Is he… leaving?’
However, she saw him turn and look in her direction.
‘He… saw me!’ Valda Theller was delighted. If Brian was by her side, she would not have to be afraid… Brian would protect her. With him around…
However, her pupils soon shrank, and her face was filled with shock because she saw him turn around and hurry away.
A sharp pain instantly attacked her, and tears poured out of her eyes.
‘Why? Why did he leave? He saw me!”
Just then, the security guards finally came over and helped stop Wynne as well as those causing a scene and smashing things.
Camille Strickland said to Valda Theller, “Valda, let’s find a quiet place and clean you up.”
However, Valda Theller stood blankly in the same spot as if she had lost her soul.
“Valda!” Camille Strickland raised her volume. “What’s come over you? Don’t frighten me!”
Valda Theller finally came to her senses and said bitterly, “Camille, take me… away…”
“Alright, we’re leaving immediately!” Camille Strickland hurriedly left the venue with Valda Theller under the security guards’ escort.
Camille Strickland drove Valda Theller back to the apartment.
“Why don’t you take a hot bath first? You’re all sticky. You must be feeling uncomfortable,” said Camille Strickland.
Valda Theller nodded blankly, took a change of clothes, and went into the bathroom.
Camille Strickland looked sad. Who would have thought a book signing would end up like this? Valda did not show any emotion in the car, which worried her even more.
She would have preferred Valda complain or swear on the road rather than being quiet like that.
Suddenly, Camille Strickland’s phone rang. As soon as Camille Strickland answered it, she heard Raymond Bowman’s anxious voice from her phone. “Camille Strickland, are you with Valda Theller now?”
“So what if I am?” Camille Strickland asked.
“How is she? Is she okay?” Raymond Bowman asked.
Camille Strickland frowned. “What do you mean?”
“I’ve seen the video of the incident at the comic fiesta. How is Valda doing?”
Camille Strickland was surprised. “Video? Did you see it online?”
“Camille Strickland, tell me how Valda is doing?” Raymond Bowman shouted impatiently.
Camille Strickland felt as if she was going to turn deaf. “I’ve accompanied Valda back to her apartment.
Where did you watch the video?”
However, Raymond Bowman hung up instead of answering her.
Camille Strickland glared at her phone, and something was caught in her throat.
She quickly opened the web search page on her phone. She soon found a lot of videos about the incident that took place at the comic fiesta that recorded Wynne’s accusations and all sorts of things and drinks being thrown at Valda.
Many people blamed Valda for bringing it upon herself in the comments below! Some people even said Valda probably fooled Brian into dating her and that they would break up soon.
!
Camille Strickland was furious to read the comments!
They would probably need Brian to take care of this. They had no idea when Brian would find out about the video. Valda would have to contact Brian immediately when she got out of the bathroom. In the bathroom, Valda Theller looked at the mess she was in in the mirror. However, compared to this, what was worse was when she saw Brian turn around.
Her heart throbbed in pain, and her body seemed to be getting colder.
‘Why did he turn around? Why didn’t he come over when he clearly saw me?’
Valda Theller suddenly smiled bitterly and muttered, “Didn’t I say that I didn’t want to depend on others? Yet I wanted to depend on him when I got into trouble. Valda Theller, you’re so funny. He only likes you, and maybe only a little bit at that. Why do you have such high expectations?”
Maybe the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment.
She would not be disappointed if she had no expectations in the beginning.
She had too many expectations. She thought Brian might like her more than a little. Perhaps she had been overthinking everything.
Today was only a wake-up call to make her aware of her position in his heart.
Valda Theller turned on the shower and let the warm water wash over her body.
Even though the water was hot, she felt colder.
‘It turns out that being left behind is so painful. It turns out that… when you love someone deeply, you’ll feel your heart breaking when you see him turn away…’
“Ahh!” Valda Theller crouched down and cried as if she could no longer contain the pain in her heart.
The water washed over her body, mixing with her tears… Valda Theller had no idea how long she cried or how long she took to bathe.
When she came out of the bathroom, she was surprised to see Raymond Bowman.
“Valda, Raymond Bowman came over himself. I didn’t ask him to come!” Camille Strickland hastened to explain.
Raymond Bowman lunged forward, stared at Valda Theller, and said, “How are you?”
“I’m fine,” Valda Theller said quietly.
Raymond Bowman said worriedly, “You got things and drinks thrown at you. How are you fine? You were crying, weren’t you?” Her red eyes seemed to silently tell others she had been crying her heart out earlier, Valda Theller turned around to look at Camille Strickland. Camille Strickland hurriedly replied, “I didn’t tell him about the comic fiesta. He found out about it from videos posted online.”
‘Videos…’ Valda Theller froze slightly before understanding what had happened.
Yeah, many people were filming with their phones. Of course, there would be people who uploaded the videos they recorded to the internet.
While laughing at herself, Valda Theller looked at Raymond Bowman. “Mr. Bowman, I think we’re not even friends, so I have nothing to do with you. This is my home, and you’re not welcome here. Please get out.”
Raymond Bowman said, “Valda, I’m just worried about you! I know I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I just want you to be okay.”
He wanted to protect her and make things right! However, he realized in the end that she would not even let him make it up to her.
