Who was Marrin? That was what she actually wanted to know. Just Marrin; not Mrs Calvin Reeves. Marrin the orphan, Marrin the computer programmer, Marrin the author, before her life must have fallen apart, and she’d run away and changed her name to Marilyn Riddley to escape being Marrin Reeves.

Marilyn’s once happy, comfortable, easy??oing life for the past eight years, was now just a confusing and partly unsettling and at times upsetting world around herself. And she knew that it wasn’t going to get any better until she recalled all of her memories as Marrin. As much as she wanted to stay here and just be Marilyn Riddley, she knew that it was inevitable that her life was going to change completely. ng a chapter She sighed and turned to make herself a cup of tea, then sank down on the lounge after cc of her new book. She was awake, she might as well work to try and take her mind off things; shake off the feelings of confusion and focus herself on her work. It was the one thing in her life that never changed and could draw her in, and she could get lost inside her own characters’ world.

This was the thing that was both her and Marrin, she realised. Her writing was what connected herself to her past. Marrin had started this career path, and she, Marilyn was continuing on with it. Marrin may be lost to the depths of her subconscious mind. But she was still there somewhere.

Still writing along with Marilyn, she realised, it was the only thing she’d known about herself upon waking up in the hospital that day. Something she now understood she recalled because it was who she truly was inside. She was an autho as both Marrin and Marilyn. Everything else in her life had likely just been confusing or not who she really was.

She sat there as the sky started to lighten in the east, and Marilyn wondered if that very thing was the trigger for her amnesia, like a reset button. So they could just be an author and nothing more. Something so very simple because Marrin’s marriage had been a lie, all fake and nothing about it was real. The only thing that was real about Marrin was her career as an author, who she’d written under as a pen name; Marilyn Riddley. She wondered now if she, Marilyn, was anything like Marrin. Were they alike in any way? She didn’t actually know, and was, she realized, as her eyes moved to the stairs that lead up to the boys’ rooms and the sound of movement; they were awake. That she was curious about that very thing, did they have the same personality as each other?

There was probably only one person that could answer that question, Calvin himself… though maybe Wil could tell her the answer. She wasn’t at all ready to deal with Calvin and asking him questions like that she didn’t know how he would respond.

But Wil had also told her they’d been friends, and that she had been friends with his wife, so maybe she could find out what she wanted to know, without having to talk to Calvin or Wil about it. But Wil’s wife? She thought about that, who his wife was.

She had signed his wife’s book twice now, as well as the new one. She’d even recognised her own handwriting in that book and added to it, something his wife had liked… Anabell, she recalled now, was her name in that book.

How did she get to Anabell was the question, without Wil telling Calvin, would he withhold that information if she asked him too? She didn’t know, it was possible if she explained her reasons she supposed. They being that she had no idea if Calvin would tell her the truth, or what he wanted her to think about herself…

Marilyn

Both her boys stared at her when they came downstairs. It wasn’t normal for her to be up and awake before they were. Those two, for some ungodly known reason, got up at the c***k of dawn every day like clockwork. It was almost as if they didn’t want to miss anything of any day they lived.

Vin she noticed was carrying that phone as they came downstairs.

“Morning boys.”

She smiled at them.

“You’re up early,”

Cal commented.

“Mm. I couldn’t sleep, weird dreams.”

She shrugged it off,

“Checked on your father already, have you?”

she asked, indicating to the phone.

“Yes.”

They both stated with a smile.

“He’s at home still,”

Vin told her.

“Not surprising, the sun is not up there yet. We’re an hour in front of Texas.”

She told them and got up to make them breakfast.

They sat at the table with her, and that phone was open and between them the entire time.

“Wil is moving,”

Cal stated pointing to the phone and smiling happily.

“He did say he runs in the morning. That it would be more fun to watch him than Calvin.”

She stated,

“That’s his lawyer.”

They’d watched his little marker move around as Wil went on a morning run. She shook her head he ran a 3??ile loop started and finished in the same place. His home, she presumed, as she sorted out packing their lunches and getting them ready for school.

She’d had to pluck that phone out of Vin’s hand as they were headed for the car.

“That stays here at the house,”

she reminded them. They’d looked unhappy about it, she noted.

“It’s likely he’ll be in the office all day and still be there when you get home. Most adults work nine to five boys. So that’s ten to six for us with the time difference.”

She reminded them and waved them off.

“You won’t lose it mum?”

Vin asked from the car before getting in.

“I won’t,”

she stated as they got in the car.

“Don’t forget where you put it, mum.”

Cal called out and she saw him chuckle.

“You might, you know, got that amnesia.”

Vin laughed, and they got in the car both laughing.

She saw Ashley laugh and shake her head. She waved at them all. Little did those two jokesters know she could play that very game, and real good right this minute. Marilyn smiled to herself, ‘What phone are you talking about?’ She could state when they got home, frown, shake her head at them and walk away as if she had no idea what they were talking about. They weren’t going to win the game today, she thought with amusement.

She sat with Cameron when he arrived that morning, and he relayed that nothing unusual had happened with Mr Reeves at the hotel after she’d left. His man had reported that Calvin had simply sat with a coffee and waited for the two lawyers to sort that contract out. He appeared to be calm and unconcerned about her leaving the hotel.
