She pushed him away almost as hard as she could. “Martin Weiss, what are you doing?”
“Kyla, aren’t you going to pretend to be a loving couple with me? Can’t you take even one kiss? How are you going to convince people that we’re in love?” Martin Weiss said.
“I’ll pay attention in public, of course. But I don’t want to do anything extra when it’s just the two of us,”
she said. Such intimacy might only stir up her hard-won calmness.
“Anything extra?” Martin Weiss’s voice was cold as his eyes stared at her.
“Am I wrong?” She looked up to meet his eyes.
The two looked at each other, and silence filled the air.
Pressing her slightly dry lips, Kyla broke the silence, changed the subject, and said, “By the way, I can stay in the same room as Nelson and Trista. Trista can sleep in a crib.”
“I’ve arranged Nelson’s room. You’re sharing a room with me. I’ll have the crib moved to our bedroom later,” said Martin Weiss.
“A room?” Kyla froze.
“Don’t you think it’ll be strange for a loving couple to sleep separately? We have many servants in the mansion, and they’re constantly watching us,” said Martin Weiss.
Kyla paused. Well, it was indeed as he said. It might provoke speculation if they slept separately.
“I’ll look for the children first,” Kyla said and walked out of the study.
Martin Weiss was left alone in the study.
Martin Weiss raised his hand to caress his lips. Her warmth seemed to linger there.
Them pretending to be a loving couple was only a temporary solution.
‘What… am I thinking?
‘I felt pain and anger when I heard her say she has moved on and that the kiss was extra!
‘What am I so angry about?
‘Am I mad that she could move on so easily? She had just gone to L City not long ago, saying she wanted him to fall for her again!
‘Or am I mad with myself for not getting over her? Even though I resorted to hypnosis to forget my feelings for her, I still can’t get rid of her influence on me.’
It was just like the kiss earlier. Only he knew what started as a punishment and retaliation for her so-
called moving on became him getting addicted to the kiss afterward.
“Martin Weiss, what do you really want?” he murmured to himself. However, he could not give himself the answer.
After Nelson went to bed at night, Kyla came to the room she shared with Martin Weiss. The crib was already in the room, and Trista, who was only six months old, was sleeping soundly in the crib.
Martin Weiss stood by the baby’s crib, looking down at his sleeping daughter in a trance.
Their son looked more like him with only his eyes and smile looking like Kyla, while their daughter looked more like Kyla.
He was still stupefied.
He had only glanced at the baby briefly when she was born.
After she gave birth, the baby spent so much time in the neonatal unit that he could only look at her through the glass.
Maybe he subconsciously thought he would get attached to the baby and become reluctant to part with her the longer he looked at her.
“Well… I’m going to wash up. Hold her for a while if she wakes up and starts crying. She’ll stop crying as long as someone’s carrying her,” said Kyla.
Martin Weiss frowned slightly. ‘Hold… the little one?’
“Okay, got it.” Speaking of which, he had never held her.
Kyla went into the bathroom to wash up. When she was done and opened the bathroom door, she heard her daughter crying. Martin Weiss was carrying the baby in a fluster.
Kyla hurried forward. When Martin Weiss saw her, he immediately asked, “Didn’t you say she’d stop crying as long as someone was holding her?” Kyla said, “That’s usually the case. It’s probably because… she’s not familiar with you. Also, she might be uncomfortable with the way you’re carrying her.”
“The way I’m carrying her?” Martin Weiss frowned. The baby’s cries kept ringing in his ears. In particular, her face was similar to her mother’s, which made him exhausted.
Kyla stepped forward to help him adjust how he carried the baby. “Put your hands like this… Also, you have to hold her neck. Babies’ necks are soft. If she’s crying really hard, you can give her an airplane hug. She loves it.”
“Airplane hug?” Martin Weiss looked confused.
“Put her on her stomach and support her stomach and neck with one hand while the other protects…”
Kyla began explaining the essentials of airplane hugs for babies.
When Martin Weiss finally gave the little one an airplane hug, the baby, who had been crying, stopped crying and giggled after a while.
The baby enjoyed her father’s hug.
Kyla’s eyes could not help watering at the sight in front of her. She had dreamed of this many times, but it unexpectedly happened when she was destined to divorce Martin Weiss.
Martin Welss looked over at her as if sensing something.
She quickly looked away and said, “Hold Trista a little longer. I’ll prepare her baby formula. It’s almost time to feed her.”
With that said, she hurried to the side and took out the baby formula to prepare it.
When the baby formula was mixed and the temperature almost reached the temperature suitable for babies, Kyla walked over to Martin Weiss with the milk bottle.
“Do you want to try feeding her?” she asked suddenly.
She had wanted him to give her the baby and feed her herself, but her words turned out the other way for some reason.
Martin Weiss seemed slightly surprised. “Me?”
“Well… If you’re unwilling, I’ll do it…” she said and tried to take the baby from his hands.
Instead of giving the baby to her, he stopped giving the baby an airplane hug and sat on the couch beside him. He held the baby in his arms, reached out one hand to Kyla, and said, “Give me the bottle.”
Kyla froze before stepping forward and handing the bottle to Martin Weiss.
He held the bottle, hesitated, and put the teat in the little one’s mouth to feed her.
However, his hands and feet uncontrollably stiffened as he fed the baby. It was a simple movement, but he could not help stiffening.
It was as if he was deeply afraid that the little one in his arms would choke if he fed her too quickly.
After all, the small baby was delicate and frail. It was as if something bad would happen to the baby if he was not careful.
Kyla watched Martin Weiss feeding their daughter milk with a gentle expression. Maybe moving here was not too bad after all. At least… her daughter got to receive some fatherly love.
After finishing the milk, Kyla began teaching Martin Weiss to burp the child.
Martin Weiss did not refuse this time. He held the baby vertically and patted her back with one hand.
He patted the little one repeatedly until she fell asleep during the burping. Martin Weiss carefully put the baby into the crib and covered her with a small quilt.
Looking at the baby, a part of his heart seemed to soften inexplicably.
He had tried everything to abort the child, even forcing Kyla on the operating table. However, he had mixed feelings as he looked at the baby now.
If it were not for this baby, Kyla’s health would not have deteriorated, and he might not have had to donate his liver a second time.
“You’ll be a good father,” murmured Kyla.
Martin Weiss turned to look at Kyla and seemingly said sarcastically, “I was never a good father. Have you forgotten that I kept insisting you give up the baby?”
