It had become a habit for her.

However, she forgot that Brian was still there.

Brian stopped Rowena Santiago’s hand in mid-air. Brian, who had looked nonchalant, now had indifference on his face. “No one can hit her in front of me.”

Brian waved his hand when he finished speaking, and Rowena Santiago staggered and fell to the floor.

Her hand that had been about to hit Valda Theller hurt terribly.

“It… It’s broken… Ouch!” Rowena Santiago shouted.

“Y-Young Master Hart, how could you do this to an elderly?” Wynne asked as he quickly helped his mother to get up.

Brian said coldly, “So what? I told you, no one can hit Valda in front of me.”

“Young Master Hart, don’t be charmed by her. She’s a Jayx. Her parents would still be alive if it weren’t for her! You can ask her if she killed her parents. She’s a Jayx!”

Seeing that things had come to this, Wynne simply had a falling out with Valda Theller. Since Valda Theller was so stubborn, he would not give Valda Theller an easy time.

Brian felt Valda Theller trembling, and her already pale face was now paler.

Wynne ‘earnestly’ said, “Young Master Hart, she’s a Jayx who will only bring you bad luck. Be careful!

It’s like how my dad got fired from his old job and could only get a strenuous job soon after she came to my house. My mom was usually in good health, but she fell seriously ill because of her. I didn’t do well in the senior high school entrance examination and the national college entrance examination either-”

“So you think it’s all her fault?” Brian Interrupted. “It… It’s all because of her. We also had someone look into her four pillars of destiny. She’s bad luck!”

Rowena Santiago added.

“It’s funny how you have to blame someone else for your own. problems.” Brian stared coldly at the mother and son pair. “Then I can tell you now that Valda’s lucky. If you didn’t have her four pillars of destiny protecting you, you would’ve ended miserably!”

Rowena Santiago and Wynne instantly shuddered as fear rose in their hearts.

They then realized that the man standing before them was the crown prince of the entertainment industry who was famous for his cruelty and indifference.

The crown prince had never been kind!

With panicked looks, the mother and son pair almost left in a hurry.

Brian looked down at Valda Theller and said, “Don’t mind what they said.”

Valda Theller looked down and pursed her lips for a long time before saying, “What if I do mind?”

‘Yeah, how can I not mind? After my parents’ death, I’ve been called a Jayx so often that I even doubt myself sometimes.’ “If you mind it, I’ll find a way to make sure they can never criticize you again,” said Brian.

Valda Theller stared blankly at Brian, not expecting him to say that.

“What’s the matter? You don’t think I can do it?” he asked as he raised his eyebrows.

She shook her head. “No, you can do it. It’s just…” She took à deep breath and said after summoning her courage, “I don’t care what they say about me, but I’ll cause something bad to happen to you someday if I’m really a Jayx.”

His eyes glimmered before he said indifferently, “I’ve never believed in superstitions, and neither should you.”

“But-”

“Do you expect me to believe that and break up with you?” he interrupted her.

She froze. There was a look of hesitation in her eyes as if she were wavering.

Brian raised his hand and flicked Valda Theller between the eyes.

“You don’t seem to love me very much. How are you going to make me fall in love with you?”

She put her hand between her eyes where he flicked and stared blankly at him.

“Valda Theller, don’t you want to make me fall in love with you?” His voice rang in her ears.

Tears suddenly rolled down her eyes. It happened so fast that she was caught off guard. She did not expect herself to cry.

Her tears surprised him. Then, he was flustered. “Was it too painful? Sorry, I didn’t watch myself—”

Before he finished speaking, she suddenly jumped into his arms and burst into tears.

It was as if she was trying to vent the helplessness, fear, and grievances she had suppressed in her heart.

Brian was more flustered as he looked at the person crying in his arms. Even though he knew what he should do, his hands and feet seemed to stiffen. The words he wanted to say came out in stutters.

“D-Don’t cry, Valda. If you want me to apologize to you, I can…”

“No… No apology is needed. You… You’re good. You’re good. You’re… the best boyfriend ever…”

Valda Theller sobbed. She could not help crying in front of him because he was so good.

Her aunt’s family had long described her as a Jayx. They always blamed her if anything bad happened.

However, it did not bother Brian when he heard these. Did he know how much his words meant to her?

It was as if he had given her hope in the darkness.

“Then why are you crying?” he asked.

“Let me… cry for a while. Just for a while… Boo-hoo… I’ll be fine…” she said nasally as she continued crying with her head in his arms.

Sometime later, her crying gradually stopped. Brian could feel that the clothes on his chest were wet.

After sniffling, Valda Theller looked up and wiped her tears while apologetically looking at his shirt that was wet from her tears.

“Sorry, I… I’ve ruined your shirt. Why don’t I help you wash it later?”

“That’s not necessary,” said Brian. Looking at her red and swollen eyes, he felt a sudden dull prick in his heart.

“I’ve made a fool of myself,” Valda Theller said awkwardly while taking a tissue to wipe away the tears on her face. “It’s funny, isn’t it? They’re my relatives. They should be the closest people I have in the world, but instead…”

Her face was full of agony.

Brian said, “The things they’re asking for are nothing to me. I don’t mind giving them what they want. If you want them to treat you better, I can get it done.”

Valda Theller shook her head. “No thanks. I would’ve helped them borrow money from you just now if I wanted you to do that. I don’t want my family to be bought with money. Besides, they’ll only be more insatiable in the future if I give them money this time.”

“Besides…” She paused. “They took all the money for my parents’ death and even a lot of my parents’

inheritance. They’re not that poor. They’re just… too greedy.”

She did not want to feed their greed.

“Alright, enough about that.” Valda Theller pulled herself together and took a deep breath. “I have to continue drawing storyboards. I’ll have to burn the midnight oil today if I don’t finish them.”

She said and returned to her work desk to work on her storyboards.

Brian watched Valda Theller in silence and could not help falling into a trance.

By the time Valda Theller finished drawing the storyboards, it was already past six o’clock.

“Sorry, I lost track of time,” she quickly apologized.

“Are you done?” Brian asked.

“Yeah.”

“Lot’s get dinner, then. What do you want?” Brian asked.

“How about the small restaurant near the studio? The same restaurant we ran into each other the second time,” said Valda Theller.
