“Well, if you’re sure, be back here under the full moon for the ceremony. I will call on the Goddess and the Elements and we will get it all in order. You are dismissed.” Araiya listened as footsteps faded from where ever she was trapped. She shook her head in disbelief at how Talon was acting.

“What do you think of him?” Zephyr waited until the footsteps had faded before he asked.

“Already tainted as you suspected. He will work perfectly. In a week’s time I will be ready to move the Spark. The night after the ritual everything will be completed and ready to go.” Soren voice cracked a little.

“Are you sure?” Zeph’s voice was slightly desperate.

“I am certain. You have been the greatest little brother a female could have ever hoped for. I am so proud of you.”

“It was one day. I hatched one day after the rest,” Zeph countered.

“One day or one cycle, it doesn’t matter. Younger is younger. Now help me up. I want to spend the day away in my bed with my mate.”

“Anything for you, Soren.” There was a rustling sound and footsteps, but Zeph’s voice was closer to wherever Araiya was stuck when he paused. His voice came in a whisper. “Are you sure we can’t warn the others?”

“Not without changing the effects. Talon will play the long game, but so will we. Once their memories come back, they will remember everything. I will warn them right before I make everyone forget. It has to be this way.”

That doesn’t sound like her Talon. Her Talon was not someone to betray them.

But Araiya would have sworn neither was Shavon.

A soft kiss brushed at her temple, bringing her awake slowly. The dream faded with as their voices faded into the darkness. Another kiss woke her up further.

“Little moon, something is shining in the distance,” Terran mumbled softly against her skin.

Araiya opened her eyes to see soft sun light glistening off the water. “How long did I sleep?”

“All day and night. It is early morning.”

“Really?” She straightened and stretched. She forgot she was in the saddle and tried to stand only to fall to the side, making her scream.

Terran chuckled and pulled her back against him. “Foolish woman, we are still in the air.” His chuckle rumbled against her back. “Look there.” Araiya followed his finger to a bright reflection.

“It could be a wave, or just the water. Could it not?” Araiya tried to look closer but her eye sight was not the greatest and the reflection was still far off.

“Normally, I might agree with you, but it is stationary. No matter how much we fly, the reflection doesn’t move from the position. Also, it is coming from the land, not the water.”

“Oh!” Araiya started to get excited. “How far off are we?”

River’s dragon called out, and Mac shifted and landed on Talon’s saddle. “Flying as we are, Talon and River figure half a day, but if you want, we can get their quicker.”

“Why were you flying?” Araiya was startled that she hadn’t noticed that Mac was flying as his dragon instead of in Talon’s saddle.

“I got bored half way through the night.” Mac shrugged and then looked back at the reflection. “So what are you thinking? Leisurely flight or rush it?”

Talon’s and River’s dragons were still flying strong, but Talon’s had its tongue out, like a dog panting. “I am sure everyone is tired. I can see if Airyn will help us to get there quicker so that you all can rest.” Mac nodded and then jumped and shifted as he fell. “You all will be the death of me, I swear.” Terran’s laugh sounded from behind her and she couldn’t stop the smile.

Airyn?

Yes, young mother, how can I help you?

Has anyone told you about Zephyr?

He has passed beyond the veil. Yes. Hopefully the Goddess will allow him to wait with his mother while I finish my tasks here. We will one day be rejoined in the veil. It is okay, Araiya. You do not have to feel guilty for the stupidity of one of my children.

But-

No, Young Mother, we all make our own choices in this lifetime. His were not your decisions. We all have our parts to play. Now that isn’t to say I am not still grieving his loss, but what can I help you with?

Can I have access to Air again to speed our flight?

Of course. Take care, Young mother, your part is harder than most.

Araiya felt Air pull away from her, his soft whisper compared to his usually booming voice saddened her. She wasn’t the only one who lost someone.

She used the air to push everyone forward faster and faster. Just like the day of the chase, she pushed all her power into the winds and the reflection slowly but surely took shape.
