It was silver. And maybe laced with something.

I let out a growl and leaped onto the upper floor, attacking the sniper and ripping his head off before he could blink.

My eyes searched around for more of them, but a couple were already lying dead in the floor.

I pounced back down, returning to the main fight.

They fought with poisoned weapons and acid.

But they were human, after all.

We were stronger, faster.

More vicious.

And more desperate.

This was our home. Our people.

We didn’t stop. We moved together, ripping through anyone who dared to step in our path. Within a matter of moments, eight of them were already dead.

One of my wolves screamed, and my eyes scanned the house. I found him near the back hallway, a knife in his throat. He attacked the Order soldier who’d hurt him, but before he could make the kill, he collapsed to the ground, unconscious. The Order solider stood up, limping and bleeding, and dragged himself against the wall. His arm was hanging weird, jaw already busted. Still, he smiled when I approached him.

His mouth was full of blood, teeth stained red. “Alpha,” he spat, like it was an insult.

I walked up to him slowly.

He tried to laugh but coughed instead, spitting blood onto the floor. “You came fast.”

I didn’t say anything. Just stared him down.

“You think you saved them?” he asked, blinking hard. “You didn’t.”

I grabbed him by the front of his jacket and slammed him against the wall.

He fell to the ground, groaning, but kept smiling. “You think we brought only fourteen men to fight against a pack of monsters?”

I didn’t like how calm he sounded. I didn’t like the look in his eyes.

“We came to keep you busy,” he said, shaking with laughter.

I growled, raising my claws.

He didn’t flinch. “You left her, didn’t you? Your mate.”

Everything in me stilled. de

“She’s at the school, isn’t she?” His voice dropped, eyes glinting. “Unmarked. Unclaimed. All by herself. Free to take.”

No. No, she wasn’t alone. She was with Warner. And Sheila.

But maybe, Blake was there too…

A chill went through me.

No. He wouldn’t dare.

“You think you’re protecting your people,” he muttered between blood-infused coughs. “But you’re about to lose the only one that matters.” He laughed again, painfully. “An Alpha without his Luna… what even is that? You’re too late.”

I shoved my claws into his e ripping his heart out. His body went still.

Images of Lia flashed before my eyes.

Her red dress. Her hair curled and soft around her shoulders.

Her smile when I walked into the gym.

Realisation rocked my world.

I left her.

I left her behind.

I turned, breath caught in my chest, and pounced towards the exil.

Aaron and Ajax were still fighting whoever was left. But I couldn’t stay. Not another second.

I had to get back to her.

I had to get back to my Luna.

Because if anyone touched her-if they even tried-I was going to rip them apart. Every single one of them.

No matter who it was.

-LIA’S POV-

I was pacing now.

The music still played in the background, soft and slow, but it barely registered anymore. Couples swayed gently across the floor, some people laughing near the snack table, but all I could feel was a pressing, hollow panic spreading through my chest.

Zane had been gone for too long.

I wrapped my arms tighter around myself, trying to stay calm, but my heart hammered away in my chest, the air suddenly feeling too cold.

What could have happened so suddenly? Everything had been fine. Tonight… tonight was supposed to be perfect.

“He’ll be okay, Lia,” Warner said beside me, hands shoved in his pockets. His jaw was set. “You know Zane. He doesn’t lose.”

“Yeah,” I muttered, nodding. “He’s an Alpha. And he’s strong. He-he’s always won.” very

I reminded myself of each time he had saved my life. The way he’d rip people apart like they were rag dolls. He could handle himself. He was an incredible fighter.

But my throat remained dry.

“Don’t worry, Lia,” Sheila said softly, approaching me. She pushed my hair away from my face. “He’ll be back any second now.”

Christy nodded beside her, but I could see how uneasy she really was. Her hands fidgeted with her dress and jewellery. “Maybe call him?”

“I did. He didn’t answer. He’s probably in his wolf form. His phone could be lying around anywhere.”

I didn’t realize I was trembling until she rested her hands on my shoulders. “Relax.”

I nodded, but it didn’t help. I couldn’t stop thinking about the way he kissed my forehead before leaving. Almost as if he wasn’t sure if he’d make it back.

I took a shaky breath and started pacing again, dragging my heels across the floor. Tears pricked my vision, and my throat burned. But I kept it together. I couldn’t fall apart. I didn’t want to look like a mess when he returned. I wanted him to see that I had faith in him.

A guy in a white tux stepped back too quickly from the punch table, and crashed right into me. His cup tipped, spilling its contents down my dress and all over my feet.

“Ah!” I gasped, stumbling back. “Ow!”

What the hell? Why was he drinking something so hot at prom?

“Shit, I’m so sorry,” he said, eyes wide. “I didn’t see you-“

I waved him off with a pained scowl. My dress was soaked and clinging to my thighs, and my heels felt like they were on fire.

“Lia!” Blake appeared out of nowhere, his face tense. “You okay? You’re hurt.”

Before I could respond, he bent down and scooped me up into his arms, bridal-style.

“Hey-” I gripped his shirt, stunned. “Blake, what the hell-“

“I’ll take you to the washroom,” he said, already walking away.

Warner stepped in fast, blocking his path. “Put her down.” He growled.

Blake’s expression didn’t change. “She’s hurt, dude. If you don’t trust me, then come with us. All of you. I’m not trying to run off with her for Goddess’s sake.”

Warner’s eyes eyes narrowed.

“Just let him help,” Sheila said, already walking after him. “We’re all going. He wouldn’t try anything here, he’s not an idiot.”

Christy hurried beside her, glancing at me with concern.

“I’m fine,” I mumbled, embarrassed as people started to stare. I glanced up at Blake, his expression unreadable.
