Shana Nicholls endured the pain in her fingers as she gritted her teeth and continued to clean up the broken glass on the floor.
She got up when she was done. “I… I’ll leave first.”
“By the way, you can go back to the hospital starting tomorrow. I don’t need you here anymore,” Martin Weiss said suddenly.
“What?” Shana Nicholls was terrified. Kyla had finally left. She thought she would finally have a chance, but Martin Weiss’s words made her drop her expectations instantly. “Mr. Weiss, w-what did I do wrong? Or did I upset you?”
“I’m well enough now that I don’t need a nurse anymore. Of course, you should go back to the hospital,” Martin Weiss said calmly.
“But… But I want to continue taking care of you.” Shana Nicholls bit his lip and said without holding anything back, “Mr. Weiss, actually… I’ve fallen for you since I started taking care of you. I’m willing to stay and take care of you for the rest of my life. I’ll never hurt you, let alone break your heart-”
Before she could finish confessing, Martin Weiss yelled, “Shut up! Who do you think you are? Who are you to say that to me?”
“I…” Shana Nicholls froze. “I just wanted to tell you how much I like you.”
“I’m not divorced yet. What do you mean by saying these things?” Martin Weiss snapped, looking at Shana Nicholls with contempt in his eyes.
Shana Nicholls was shocked. ‘Not… divorced? But I saw Kyla leave after signing the divorce papers!
‘That means… Martin Weiss hasn’t signed them?’ Shana Nicholls’s eyes seemingly widened in disbelief at the thought of it.
Martin Weiss said coldly, “I don’t want to see you again tomorrow.
Now, get out!”
Shana Nicholls staggered out of the study with a pale face. Only a short moment had passed from the time she entered the study and left it, but she seemed to have experienced heaven before falling into hell.
She thought she had a chance after Kyla left, but reality slapped her.
How could she be willing to accept it?
Grace went to Kyla’s store with her bulging belly.
“Didn’t Jason tell you to stay home and not wander around?” Kyla quipped.
“Yes, but I thought I’d come and see you,” said Grace.
Kyla smiled. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. I decided to come back early this time to end things. I won’t have any other ideas, and I won’t be thinking about it constantly if I cut it off early.”
“Can you really let it go?”
“I have two children. Why can’t I let it go? Love isn’t a necessity for everyone. There are things more important to me than love. As for Martin Weiss…” Kyla’s eyes dimmed. “He’ll live a good life for the rest of his life if he doesn’t lift his hypnosis. After all, it’s easy for a man like him to find a suitable woman to marry and have children.”
Grace sighed, not expecting Kyla and Martin Weiss to come to this after being entangled with each other for so many years.
“By the way, were you going out?” Grace changed the topic as she looked at Kyla’s outfit and the bag laid aside.
“I was going to the mall to buy some baby formula, but there’s no hurry,” said Kyla. She could not feed her daughter due to her condition, so she could only feed her with baby formula.
“Why don’t we go now? My car is here, and I can take you there and back. I want to buy some gifts for Trista anyway.” Trista was the name of the baby girl.
“But…”
“Just consider it spending time with me. I don’t come out much these days,” said Grace.
Kyla smiled and got into the car with Grace. They drove toward the mall.
Kyla bought milk powder in the mall, while Grace bought many baby clothes, toys, diapers, teethers, and the like. The driver carried the things to the car.
“There are too many things here,” Kyla could not help saying.
“I like Trista, so I want to give her more!” Grace said.
Grace was a little hungry after they left the mall.
“By the way, remember that small noodle shop you used to run? It’s now a small restaurant. I saw it once when I was passing by. Why don’t we go there for lunch? It’s nearby anyway,” suggested Grace.
Kyla agreed. Speaking of which, she might not have met Grace if she had not opened that small noodle shop. Her life would have been more miserable if that were the case.
They went to the small restaurant, which was no longer the same small noodle shop. The furnishings inside and the menu were also different, but there were noodles on the menu.
Kyla and Grace smiled at each other. Having good rapport, they both chose noodles.
“Nelson was so young when I met you here.” Grace gestured the height of three-year-old Nelson Corbyn.
“Yeah, it was very hard at that time, but I still survived. Life is now much better than it was then. What else can I not get over?” Kyla lamented.
While they chatted, Grace suddenly caught sight of a figure out of the corners of her eyes and paused slightly.
“What’s the matter?” Kyla followed her best friend’s gaze with some doubt. Grace was looking at a woman dressed in casual clothes.
The woman had a short ponytail and a comely round face. She looked clean and adorable.
“Is she someone you know?” Kyla asked.
“Yeah, Brian’s girlfriend that I told you about,” said Grace.
Just then, Valda Theller also looked over at Grace as if sensing their gazes. She was slightly surprised when she saw Grace.
“Valda, what a coincidence,” greeted Grace.
“Yeah, what a coincidence.” Valda Theller smiled sheepishly.
“Why don’t you sit down and eat with us?” Grace asked.
Valda Theller replied in acknowledgment and ordered for donburi with the restaurant owner before going to Grace’s table. “By the way, this is my friend Kyla,” introduced Grace.
“Hello, Miss Corbyn,” Valda Theller said politely.
Kyla smiled. “I should be a few years older than you. You can call me Kyla like Grace.”
“Then you can also call me Valda,” said Valda Theller.
Valda Theller’s cordial attitude gave Kyla a good impression of her. Valda Theller was not stunningly beautiful, but she looked friendly. Perhaps it was why she could become Brian’s girlfriend.
After all, Kyla knew how much Brian loved Grace.
“But I didn’t expect you to eat here, Grace,” said Valda Theller.
“I used to work here when this small restaurant was a small noodle shop, and Kyla was the owner,” said Grace before looking at Valda Theller. “Do you work around here?”
After all, it was lunchtime, and most people eating here at noon should be from nearby.
“My studio is nearby,” said Valda Theller.
“Yes, you said the last time that you draw comics and have your own studio,” said Grace.
“Yeah.” Valda Theller’s eyes lit up at the mention of her career, and she started talking. When the restaurant owner served their food, Valda Theller scratched her head awkwardly. “Am I boring you with what I’m saying?”
“No, it’s interesting,” said Grace.
Kyla also said, “Yeah. My son reads comics. I always thought comics were for children. From what you said, I’ve learned that there are many comics for adults, and I’m intrigued to read some.”
“I’ll lend you some comics the next time if you want. I have a lot of comic books at home,” said Valda Theller.
“Sure, thank you!” Kyla said..
The three ate while chatting. Kyla suddenly felt someone in the restaurant looking at them. She subconsciously looked up to find several strangers. She did not know any of them.
‘Do Grace or Valda know them?’ Kyla was about to ask Grace and Valda Theller when the people suddenly got up and walked toward them.
“You must be Ms. Kyla. We know that you’re the wife of Martin Weiss, chairman of Weiss Group, right?
