Grace looked blankly at the man in front of her. Those charming peach blossom eyes had become filled with worry for her at some point.
He… was worried about her. Since she became pregnant with this baby, his eyes were always full of unease and fear.
‘I caused all this. I insisted on having the child. I’ve made him insecure and fearful.’
“Jay, I’m sorry,” she murmured as she took his face in her hands. Her fingertips brushed the corners of his eyes. “I’ve made you worried.” “I’m willing to worry for you,” said Jason as he rubbed his cheek against her palms. “I want you to be safe.”
“I will.” She smiled and assured him. “I’ll grow old with you no matter what.”
He closed his eyes gently as he smiled, enjoying the moment.
He had her by his side. Her scent, warmth, and everything made him so sentimentally attached to her.
His once empty heart gradually filled up because of her.
Valda Theller returned to the film set after she recovered.
However, the crew had changed greatly. The actors and actresses involved in the strike had been replaced. Even the director was replaced.
The people on the set were much more respectful when they met her. They called her ‘Miss Theller’ or ‘Comic Artist Zhong, making Valda Theller unused to it.
“What’s the matter? Does the crew know Brian is my boyfriend?” Valda Theller asked Camille Strickland quietly when she had the time.
“No, I haven’t said anything about it to anyone in the crew or heard them talk about it,” said Camille Strickland.
“Then why are people on the set treating me like this?” she asked in confusion.
“It must have something to do with Brian. You were taken away by people from Hart Group, so everyone thinks you have Hart Group’s higher-ups behind you. How could they treat you badly?”
Camille Strickland replied.
Valda Theller was speechless. She had now become someone who got to where she was due to her connections.
“By the way, how are the things between you and Brian?” Camille Strickland gossiped curiously.
“Nothing new.” She was only pretending to be his girlfriend anyway. The only difference was that she used to do it out of sympathy. She had also suffered a bad experience in love, so she wanted to help him.
However, it had gradually turned into gratefulness, and she wanted to repay him.
If it were not for Brian, she might not be able to stand here.
Camille Strickland muttered, “Maybe you should consider the possibility of making it real. After all, you have a chance many people would never have. Won’t it be a pity if you’re only ‘pretending’ to be his girlfriend?”
Valda Theller chuckled. “Stop saying such things. Do you think someone like him would casually make a fake relationship real?”
She could not help thinking of the day he brought her to a party with his friends. That moment had made it even clearer to her that she and he were indeed worlds apart.
Even if there was a brief intersection, they would eventually drift apart again…
“I only want to be a good ‘girlfriend’ during this period. I’ll keep my heart in check. I won’t overthink about the rest because I know I’m incompatible with him,” said Valda Theller.
After hearing what her best friend said, Camille Strickland somehow found her nose slightly sore. “How are you incompatible? Even if that person is Brian, you’re—”
“That’s enough. I’m too old to dream. Camille, I admit I have a crush on him. It’s hard not to be attracted to a man like him, but I also understand that he has no feelings for me. The reason he sent someone to save me at the film set was that I’m his fake girlfriend.”
Valda Theller said gently. She would only say what was on her mind in front of her best friend. “I don’t want a fake relationship to turn real. If I take it seriously but he still regards it as a fake relationship, I’llbe the only one to suffer in the end. So all I can do now is stay true to myself and not get caught up in my emotions.”
Camille Strickland said with a guilty look, “I’m sorry!”
She teased Valda and forgot that Valda would only get hurt again if she took her words seriously but Brian did not end up feeling the same way for her.
“Why are you apologizing? I know you only want me to start a new relationship,” said Valda Theller.
“Okay, I’ll help you find a good man when you’re done with Brian,”
said Camille Strickland.
Valda Theller could not help laughing.
After finishing her work on the film set, she took the bus back to her apartment. However, she did not expect to find Raymond Bowman downstairs.
Raymond Bowman’s eyes lit up immediately when he saw her. He walked toward her, obviously waiting for her.
“You’re… back,” he said, looking a little flustered. He had purposely come to see her, but many words seemed stuck in his throat when he finally saw her.
“Raymond Bowman, I don’t think we have anything to do with each other. I also hope we can avoid meeting as much as possible,” said Valda Theller.
Pain flashed across his eyes. Perhaps he only realized that the woman who used to love him had indeed stopped loving him.
However… “Are you serious about Brian?” Raymond Bowman asked.
Valda Theller answered without hesitation, “Yes, I’m in a serious relationship with him. I also hope you won’t disturb us.”
“But how much do you know about him?” he continued asking.
Her mind flashed back to how he had gotten along with his friends in the club’s private room and how they treated the women who adored them.
People like them had their own set of values.
She and they were like two worlds apart.
“If I want to get to know him, I’ll get to know him myself. I don’t want anyone telling me anything,”
replied Valda Theller before turning around to enter the apartment building.
“Do you believe he loves you?” He suddenly stood in front of her. “Why shouldn’t I believe him?” she asked in reply.
Raymond Bowman suddenly said, “The person he loves is Grace! And Grace is the wife of Jason, the president of Reed group. Brian pursued Grace madly and even stopped dating after Grace. There are many socialites in Emerald City who can compare to her, and many beautiful female celebrities-whether popular or not-who want to be his girlfriend. Do you think he’s dating you because he loves you?”
Raymond Bowman said in a breath.
Valda Theller quivered slightly. ‘Grace’s… the woman I ran into with Brian. The gentleness in Brian’s tone was nothing like his usual indifference.’
However, she had never thought he could love a woman so deeply.
Raymond Bowman even used the word ‘madly’, which showed how much he loved Grace.
“If Grace’s husband wasn’t Jason, Brian would’ve stolen Grace. He’s probably playing this dating game with you on a whim,” said Raymond Bowman. “So you don’t think Brian loves me? There are so many socialities and female celebrities. Why would Brian fall for a woman with no looks, money, or power like me? Is that what you mean?” she said.
Raymond Bowman paused. After hesitating a little, he said, “I… I just don’t want you to be fooled.”
Valda Theller said, “Then I can tell you that I’m not being fooled. Also, I don’t think the reason he didn’t snatch Grace away is that her husband is Jason. I think it’s because Jason is the one Grace loves.”
It was not because of Jason’s influence and status!
“You… You’re really…” For a moment, Raymond Bowman had no idea how to persuade her.
“Raymond Bowman, I think you should know that I hate lies the most, but Brian has never lied to me. I can confidently say that he… has never lied to me!” With that said, she went straight into the apartment building without another glance at him.
Raymond Bowman was left alone. He stood in front of the apartment building with a bitter smile on his lips. “He never lied?
Valda, you’ll one day realize that you can’t afford a man like him!”
Valda Theller returned to her apartment, put down her bag, went into the bathroom, turned on the tap, and splashed her face with water.
Looking up, she looked at her wet face. She knew she was not a stunning woman. Even though she was considered pretty, she was no match for the women around Brian.
It was no wonder the people who attended the party looked doubtful when Brian took her there the last time.
Their relationship had been fake from the start. She was only a fake girlfriend.
Brian had never lied to her. Therefore, even if he said he loved her in front of outsiders, she knew better than anyone that it was fake!
