Kyla said nothing more but looked up toward the stairs, waiting for Martin Weiss to appear. Every extra glance she got of him was a blessing for her.

She wanted to see more of him and imprint his face in her mind.

Finally, his figure came into view.

A black suit enveloped his figure, which was much slimmer. than before. He walked down the steps with a straight back and graceful steps.

His neatly combed hair looked meticulous when coupled with his handsome but solemn face.

When Martin Weiss walked to the living room, Shana Nicholls stepped forward, held him, and said to Mrs. Weiss, “Old Madam, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Mr. Weiss at the banquet tonight.”

“Okay, pay attention to when Martin needs to take his medicines. Don’t let him exhaust himself. Call me if anything happens,” said Mrs. Weiss.

Martin Weiss bade goodbye to his mother and left the mansion with Shana Nicholls.

Kyla helplessly watched the two walk past her. Her eyes were full of reluctance as she wanted to reach out to grab him. She wanted to tell him to accompany her a little while longer because she was never going to have that kind of company again.

However, she eventually did nothing but watch…

She watched his figure disappear from her sight. Not long after, Mrs. Weiss left too. Before she left, she stared at Kyla again and said, “I only want my son to be safe for the rest of his life, but he’ll never be safe with you. I hope you can let him live because he donated his liver to you twice!”

All Kyla could say was… “I will! I hope he can be safe too.”

When she was the only one left in the living room, she checked her phone and found online that he had gone to a well-known charity event in L City that evening.

Some comments online said his attendance at the charity event had dispelled the rumors that the head of the Weiss Group was seriously ill.

There were some live videos taken by others online. Kyla found the ones about Martin Weiss and clicked on them to watch.

Though he looked thin in the video, he appeared to be in good spirits and was laughing with people.

Shana Nicholls was by his side, her face looking a little shy and lovely.

Comments below the video speculated about the relationship between Shana Nicholls and Martin Weiss.

Watching the video, Kyla’s eyes felt sore as if tears would pour out at any moment. She could not be the one who accompanied him in the end.

He might be with Shana Nicholls or some other woman, but… there would not be any room for her.

Ending the marriage and returning to Emerald City might be the best for her.

Turning off her phone, she sat in the living room and waited in silence. The minutes ticked by and she did not know how long she Martin Weiss and Shana Nicholls entered the mansion. They stopped in their steps after seeing Kyla.

Martin Weiss frowned and seemed to ask crossly, “Why are your still up?”

Kyla forced a smile. “I’m waiting for you to come back. There’s still time before today ends. It’s 11 o’clock. We have another hour before midnight.”

Martin Weiss’s eyes darkened before he turned to Shana Nicholls beside him. He said, “Go back to your room first.”

Shana Nicholls tactfully answered in acknowledgment and returned to her room. Kyla was returning to Emerald City tomorrow anyway. She no longer saw Kyla as a threat.

Martin Weiss tugged at his tie, went up, and said, “You have only one hour left. What more do you want?”

“I’ll make you a bowl of noodles. I got the servant to prepare the ingredients today. I was going to have noodles for dinner. Since you’ve returned, consider it late-night supper. Wait here in the dining room. It won’t take long,” she said.

With that, she hurried into the kitchen. Martin Welss pressed his lips together and finally sat in the dining room.

When Kyla walked out with two bowls of noodles, he looked at to the bowl of noodles with a flash of doubt in his eyes. “Longevity noodles?”

“Yeah. It’s not your birthday, but… I want you to live a long life, so I cooked it,” she said.

“A long life?” He sneered. “Do you think I’ll live a long life?”

“Nothing is impossible in this world. Just like how I thought I might not have much longer to live, but I’m still alive,” she said. He was the one who gave her this life.

Martin Weiss looked at the time. There were still 40 minutes left before midnight. “I hope you’ll keep your word and sign the divorce papers 40 minutes later.”

She replied gently, “Yeah. Dig in. The time will be up when we finish the noodles.” Martin Weiss lowered his head and ate the bowl of hot noodles.

Kyla watched him eat the noodles in a daze. When her eyes started welling up with tears, she quickly lowered her head to eat her noodles.

A ‘Don’t cry! I don’t want him to see me crying in my last moments with him.’

As she ate the noodles, she could not help asking, “Martin Weiss, are you… sure you won’t love me anymore?”

He gently looked up at her. “Do you think I can fall for you again? Kyla, I thought that my unwillingness to lift my hypnosis should be enough to make you realize how much I don’t want to love you.”

Her face paled a little before she laughed at herself. “I know. It’s just that… I want to give up on the idea forever, so… that I can make myself stop pestering you.”

As she spoke, she lowered her head and continued eating the noodles. She looked as if all was well.

However, her trembling hand that held the chopsticks gave away her emotions.

They finished the noodles at last. They had five minutes left. Kyla took out the divorce papers and a pen. Soon… she would no longer be his wife.

Taking a deep breath, she looked at him and said, “Lastly, I want you to promise me one thing.”

He frowned. “What are you trying to pull now?”

“I just want you to promise me you’ll never lift the hypnosis on yourself!” she said.

“What?” He was shocked that this was her last request.

“Since you’re refusing to lift your hypnosis now, don’t ever consider doing it in the future. Let everything between us vanish,” she muttered.

If he lifted the hypnosis on himself… 20 or 30 years later, they would not be able to recover their lost time even if they were together. He would only have more regrets.

She would rather he continued… not to love her.

Kyla signed her name on the divorce papers as the hour and minute hands struck 12.

Then, she smiled at him. “Martin Weiss, you’re really free now.”

She was no longer a burden to him.

He stared at her, but the faint smile seemed to bring a pang of pain to his heart!

Kyla returned to Emerald City. Grace was shocked to learn that and rushed to the store.

5. Corbyn sitting in the store when she arrived.

“Aunt, where’s Kyla?” she asked.

“She’s inside,” said Mrs. Corbyn with a touch of sadness on her face. After her daughter got home last night, she found out the results from her daughter. She learned that her daughter had finally signed the divorce papers and ended her marriage with Martin Weiss.

“I’ll go check on her,” said Grace. Mrs. Corbyn nodded. She knew that her daughter was just pretending to be fine after she returned, but how could she be truly fine? Her daughter had always been forbearing. She would probably endure all her sadness and say nothing for fear of worrying her.
