Since he fell in love with Grace, he did not like other women touching him. He only touched Valda Theller to put on an act in front of Grace.
However, he did not need to act right now. He could refuse.
Even so, the fear and longing in her eyes reminded him of his childhood when he almost fell off the cliff.
His eyes were also full of fear and longing when he almost fell off the cliff.
He was scared that he would fall and longed for someone to help him.
Grace had reached out to grab him and saved him.
“Okay,” he said slowly as he stretched his right hand to Valda Theller.
Valda Theller’s trembling hand gripped Brian’s hand as if it were driftwood.
Her fear gradually faded when the warmth of his hand transferred to her body. The elevator soon stopped, and the doors opened. Valda Theller and Brian came to Valda Theller’s apartment door. She took out the key and opened the door while holding his right hand tightly with her left hand.
“Aren’t you going in?” he asked her as she had been standing at the door.
She bit her lower lip, and her left hand grabbed his right hand a little tighter.
“I’ll stay with you for a while. You need to calm down,” said Brian as he led Valda Theller into the house.
“I’m sorry. I know my mood’s a little off right now. I just… Just…”
she sobbed.
He added, “You must be afraid. I was careless to have put you through this. It won’t happen again.”
“It’s not your fault. I’m grateful you came to my rescue,” Valda Theller said quickly.
“Why did you call 110 earlier? They probably wouldn’t have been able to make it there in time. Wouldn’t it have been quicker if you had just called me?” he asked. She would probably have been badly hurt had he not gotten suspicious and rushed to the washroom after hearing that the way to it was blocked.
Valda Theller said awkwardly, “I… I figured if I called you, there would be only one of you while there were so many of them. I’d be dragging you down. So I thought of calling 110. Uh… Of course, I didn’t expect you to be so tough. They were no match for you!”
He gazed at her. “But did it ever occur to you that I put you through this? Even if I were to suffer with you, I would’ve deserved it, no?”
She blinked. “But if we have to get beaten up, it’s better for just one of us to get beaten up than two, no?”
Brian chuckled. ‘Is she kind? Or is she stupid?
‘But… people like her are rare.’
“I’ll get you some hot water. It’ll calm you down,” he said and got 1.
“Let me do it,” she quickly said.
“You’d better sit down first. Your hand will probably shake and you’ll spill hot water all over,” he said.
Valda Theller looked at her slightly trembling hands and did not insist.
Watching Brian walk into the kitchen, Valda Theller smiled wryly and leaned against the couch’s armrest.
She thought her nightmare in university was over for her, but it never occurred to her that… it had been in the back of her mind the whole time. She would easily recall the trauma she endured back then when she met similar situations.
She looked blankly at her left hand. She was less frightened the moment she grabbed his hand. It was just like how he showed up and saved her when she was desperate today.
It turned out that it felt good to have someone save you.
The apartment was also not as cold as it used to be because of the presence of another person.
As her fear gradually dissipated, the effects of the alcohol she drank before seemed to kick in slowly, making her close her eyes…
When Brian came out of the kitchen with hot water, he found Valda Theller asleep on the couch.
He set the glass aside and looked at the figure. Her head was tilted, and her body was slightly curled up. Her pale face and slightly messy hair seemed to tell him what she had gone through today.
Brian was silent for a moment before bending down. He gently picked Valda Theller up and walked toward her bedroom.
After carefully laying her on the bed in the bedroom, Brian pulled the thin blanket to cover her. As he was about to turn to leave, stammering murmurs suddenly rang out. “No… I’m scared… I’m scared… Mom and Dad… I… I’m scared… Save me…”
The soft murmurs seemed to carry heavy pain.
He turned his head to see that her eyes were still closed. It was clear that she was still asleep. However, her face was pale, she was frowning, and her head was shaking side to side from time to time. She seemed to be trying to shake off a nightmare.
‘What is she dreaming about? She’s calling for her parents who died when she was very young.’
She was sobbing, looking like a poor little thing who was abandoned.
‘Abandoned?’ Brian’s eyes darkened slightly. He was abandoned too.
He bent over, raised his hand, and gently pressed his palm on Valda Theller’s forehead. His cold voice said indifferently, “You’re okay now. You’re safe now.”
She seemed to hear him in her dream. The uneasiness slowly faded from her face, and her sobs grew quieter.
“You’re okay now… You’re okay…” His voice continued to ring as if to put her to sleep.
to Valda Theller thought she would not sleep well the whole night after the washroom scare.
However, she woke up the next morning to a call from her studio assistant. She realized she had been sleeping like a log.
The assistant thought something had happened to her when she did not show up, but it turned out she had just overslept.
Valda Theller quickly got out of bed to wash up after hanging up.
Last night, she only remembered holding Brian’s hand tightly as she entered the house. Then, Brian offered to pour her a glass of hot water. Later, she was leaning on the couch and was unable to resist the urge to take a nap…
‘Did I fall asleep? And… did Brian carry me to bed?’
Valda Theller’s face immediately reddened at the thought of it. ‘I didn’t do or say anything weird after falling asleep, did I?’
However, she vaguely remembered a soft voice saying something in her sleep. Then… she slept so soundly… so, so soundly… Valda Theller looked up at herself in the mirror in front of the sink. In the mirror, her cheeks were red, and her eyes seemed to sparkle with some longing…
“Valda, is it hard to pretend to love me?” His voice seemed to ring in her ears again.
Her heart seemed to beat faster.
‘Gosh! Stop thinking about it!’ Valda Theller shook her head. She and Brian were only pretending to date. There was nothing more.
Brian had feelings for someone else, and she knew that very well.
Therefore, she knew better than anyone not to fall for the man. It might be another disaster if she fell for him!
After reaching the studio, Valda Theller and her two assistants sorted out various materials related to Meeting You.
The drama was about to start filming. The director said yesterday that he hoped that she, the original comic artist, could come to the set at a fixed time every week. They could discuss the script as soon as possible if they needed to.
Although they had written the script, it could be changed at any time during filming. The film might be more authentic if she participated in the process.
Valda Theller had no objections to it. She wanted what was best for the film too. Besides, she happened to be free during this period. Her next comic was still in the plot development stage and had not been serialized.
Once she started serializing the comic, she would not have much spare time.
While Valda Theller was sorting out the materials, her phone suddenly rang. Valda Theller pressed the answer button, and her best friend Camille Strickland’s anxious voice came from the phone. “Valda, where are you now?”
“The studio,” replied Valda Theller.
“Okay, hurry and put on a hat. Leave the studio as inconspicuously as possible. Ask your assistants to go home too. In short, lock the studio up and don’t leave anyone inside,” said Camille Strickland.
“Why? What happened?” Valda Theller asked.
“Oh, just do what I say. I’m driving over right now. I’ll tell you more later!” Camille Strickland said.
