Araiya swam over to the sea snake and touched her scales.

You never answered my last question. Who are you, what is your name?

My name is old and lost to the sea, but you may call me Oorocah.

Okay then. Thank you Oorocah, for helping my found family.

Araiya touched her head to the sea serpent and prayed to the Goddess for guidance. Oorocah deserved a mate, she deserved a child. But Araiya did not know what she was to do. How would she save her mates, stop a war, save the realm and then somehow create a mate or child for this lonely soul?

Araiya felt Oorocah move beneath her, and then they surged up out of the water. Araiya was somehow balanced on the sea serpent’s neck, flying up into the air. She watched in awe as Oorocah snatched the two black dragons that Terran was fighting in one swoop before diving back into the water. When she resurfaced, Terran had landed on the island and had taken out the last black dragon while Talon and Zephyr fought.

Athan swam alongside the sea serpent with River clutched in his mouth. River was still unconscious, which worried Araiya. “Oorocah, will River be okay? He is still unconscious.”

I poisoned him.

Araiya gasped and the sea serpent chortled beneath her.

I will reverse it, Chosen. Be calm.

“Think about this Zeph, there is no coming

back from this,” Mac screamed from the beach.

“You think I can come back from this? I don’t want to.” Zeph cackled wildly. But Araiya caught a sadness hidden behind his words as Oorocah swam in to the shallows. Athan pushed River as far as he could and the swam back and forth behind him.

Araiya slid down the sea serpent’s neck. Her grip failed her as she slid and she tumbled a few feet into the water. Oorocah chortled again as she bent down, picked River up and placed him out of the water on the beach.

He will awaken in a few moments. But I think you should focus on your Air mate, he is in trouble.

Araiya turned to see that Talon was on his knees with Zephyr holding a blackened knife to his throat. She ran closer and fell, as if she was tripped. She looked around and Talon caught her eye. He was staring at her and gave a tiny head shake.

Stay away.

Don’t come closer.

Araiya tried to push to her feet but a shield of air was covering her legs. “I need you to stay back, Little moon. I will not chance you being taken again.”

“Such touching fucking bullshit.” Shavon walked from behind Zephyr. “It’s quite cute. But let’s not pretend anymore.” Shavon stood in front of Talon and looked down. There was no love on her face. It was just pure hatred. “Hello mate.”

“Why?” It was the only thing Talon could think of to ask. Why did she pretend to kill herself? Why did she break their bond? Why was she with Zephyr?

“Haven’t you guessed yet? Pathetic really.” Shavon leaned down and kissed his lips. When he tried to pull away, Zephyr cut him with the knife. Shavon chuckled as she wiped a finger through his blood and then licked her finger. “Why he asks.” Both Shavon and Zeph laugh. “Because I could.”

“I love you. Von, please,” Talon pleaded.

“You don’t love me. Not truthfully. No, you love her.” Shavon spun on her heels and stomped her way closer to where Araiya was laying. “Did you think I didn’t notice? That I was stupid enough not to see?”

“I-“

“Enough. Let’s stop with all the lies. I think after a cycle together, we can be honest with each other, right? You love her. Admit it.”

“I loved you!”

“Loved eh, already past tense.” Shavon stalked back to where Talon was kneeling. She dug her fingers under his chin and lifted his face. “If you don’t want to be honest. Then I will be. I never loved you. Fuck, we never even had sex. Any memory you have in your mind of my body, was put there by his darkness. You were never my mate. Just a way to manipulate the people around us. I was hopeful that the Chosen with spirit would awaken soon, and low and behold I was right. I only had to deal with your pathetic ass for a cycle.” Shavon smirked over her shoulder. “One thing I can thank you for, Araiya.”

“Fuck off.” Araiya dug her hands in to the sand as her anger rose. Her fingers were straining and itching to be wrapped around her neck. Instead of closing her hand around Shavon’s neck she closed her hand around something else.

“Poor Araiya. Chosen of the Goddess and chosen mate of the darkness.” Shavon whirled. “You got everything. So forgive me if I took your mate.”

“I am not her mate,” Talon cut back.

“Zephyr, you idiot. I used you to get an in with Zeph.” Shavon rolled her eyes.

“What do you mean you used him to get an in with me?” Zeph looked confused, as if this was the first time her had heard of this.

“I told you the darkness came to my village looking for a girl who would become the Chosen of the Goddess. He chose me to be his vessel. He told me that I needed to mate with an Enforcer.”
