“You mean when your Hounds had the guts to threaten and annoy me?”

He smirked, a proud glint in his eye. “I love how you worded that.”

I laughed. “Why?”

“You know they’re afraid of you now,” he said, amused.

I shrugged. “I mean, I am their future Luna, aren’t I?”

His gaze softened. “You are. Theirs, and mine.”

I leaned forward and rested my head on his chest. “You know, I thought I’d only ever study in the school library. I used to judge the people who came here to kiss and hook up.”

Zane snorted. “And now?”

“Now I’m the one doing it,” I mused.

“Really?” Zane asked, gently pushing me back to meet my eye. “Are we about to hook up, my little Lia?”

My eyes widened. “No… I just-I meant others.”

“You just said you’re the one doing it now.”

“What I meant-” I began, but he cut me off by crashing his lips against mine.

Without a second warning, Zane scooped me up into his arms and moved to the darker, secluded corners of the library. My heart thumped in my chest as I was pushed against a shelf of history books, toppling a couple onto the ground.

He pulled away, allowing me to catch a gulp of air.

“Zane-“

“Shh.” He pressed a finger to my lips. “Silence in the library, please.”

My face heated up as I blinked up at him, wide eyed.

Zane leaned in, his blue eyes looking grey in the darkness. “You’ have always thought about doing it in here, haven’t you?” he whispered.

I lowered my gaze, feeling caught.

Zane tipped my chin up with his finger. “Don’t look away, love. Answer my ques-“

I put my hand over his mouth, swallowing hard. “Shh,” I whispered. “Silence in the library, please.”

Zane’s eye glinted with mischief as he lowered my hand from his mouth. ‘As you say, ma’am,’ he mouthed, before pressing his lips to mine again.

Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, my heart flipping. His arms snaked around my waist and he lifted me up, gently slamming me against the bookshelf. I yelped, and he took the opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth, deepening the kiss. My hands found his hair, tugging lightly, while his hold tightened around me. Zane broke the kiss to move downwards, towards my neck, and my heart began to knock at my ribs.

“Lia Snow!” a high pitched voice rang, making us both freeze.

I squeezed my eyes shut, while Zane slowly lowered me to my feet, before turning to look at the one who interrupted us.

“And Zane Adams?” the librarian said in disbelief. “I had heard rumours swimming around about the two of you, but I didn’t believe it. Weren’t you two mortal enemies?”

Zane chuckled, as if he hadn’t just been caught making out.

“Not at all, ma’am. It was more like love at millionth sight.”

I sucked my lower lip into my mouth. It still tasted like him.

“Well, whatever it is, I never expected this from you, Snow.” The disappointment in her tone made me want to hide in a hole.

“Really?” Zane frowned. “She’s always wanted to do this.”

“No!” I shouted instantly, eyes shooting open.

Zane laughed, not a flicker of shame on his face.

“Lia,” the librarian flinched. “Silence in the library, please.”

A cry left my lips, and Zane snorted, before a fit of laughter took over him.

My cheeks flamed with shame, and I buried my face in my hands.

“Anyway, out. Both of you. Go straight to the office and confess to your… misbehaviour, at once.” She stepped further away from us, gesturing towards the exit. “Off you go.”

Zane backed away from me, and I pushed off the shelf, my head hanging low in shame.

“This normal enough for you?” Zane whispered in my ear.

“This is anything but!” I whisper-yelled at him.

“Wait,” the librarian called before reached the door. “Restack these books first.”

I groaned. “Now, that’s what’s normal.”

Zane chuckled. “Mission successful, then.”

A smile took over my lips, and I shook my head at him, before we returned to the shelf and got to work.

I couldn’t believe how I managed to score someone like him. Destiny or not.

-LIA’S POV-

We sat playing tic-tac-toe in detention for an hour after school, thanks to our little adventure in the library. Zane lost almost every single time, because apparently, ‘werewolves don’t play childish games’.

“I will win what’s important, Lia,” he said, tone condescending. “Who cares about paper games?”

I shrugged. “I do. When I’m Luna of your pack, I will make it a point to introduce these to the kids.”

Zane smiled. “Really?”

“Of course.”

“What else will you do when you’re officially Luna?”

I tapped the back of my pencil to my lip. “I will take proposals.”

“Proposals? What kind?”

“The human kind. For marriage.”

“What?” Zane chuckled.

I clicked my tongue. “See-you told me some werewolves kidnap

FROM their human mates and stuff. I will forbid that and as the Luna, go with my wolf to their human mate’s house with a proper proposal. I’ll offer them things they can’t refuse, in return for two simple meetings: One with their wolf mate, like a date, and one with me. In my meeting with the human, I’ll tell them our story, keeping all the gruesome details of course.”

Zane ran a hand down his face. “You’ve really thought this through, haven’t you?”

“Obviously. I mean, what’s the point in having a human Luna if I can’t make things easier for couples like yours and mine?”

“True.” He nodded. “Very true. What else?”

“What else?”

“Any other duties you’ve decided to take upon yourself?”

“I’ll look around.” I nodded. “See what fits me.”

“Sounds good, my love,” he smiled.

I grinned, proud that he liked my idea.

Then a thought struck me. “Although, if I turn into a huge, scary monster, I won’t do these things anymore.”

Zane raised a brow. “Why not?”

“Because, then it’s stupid. I want to fight for the pack if I have the power.”

Zane chuckled. “You don’t have to fight no matter what you become, my love.”

“But I want to.” I frowned. “I want to protect you like you protect me.”

“I don’t need protection, darling.”

“So you’re saying I’m weak?” I narrowed my eyes. “That’s why I need your protection and you won’t need mine?”
