Her right ring finger was missing.

“George Gregory, do you know how bad the pain of losing a finger is? Do you know the horror of seeing your finger get cut off before your eyes? Do you have any idea how much I hated the person who cut my finger off at that moment? But my fiancé married the person who did it! She cut my finger off just because the ring I was wearing was an eyesore to her.”

Amber Mitchell said. Every word carried the pain she had suffered.

“After you married Louise Mitchell, Louise Mitchell came to me wearing your wedding ring. Do you know how much it hurt me when she raised her right hand to show off the wedding ring you gave her?

What makes you think you can make it up to me?”

George Gregory’s face turned utterly pale as his body swayed. Her mutilated right hand stung his eyes!

He had never experienced the suffering and pain she spoke 1.

How painful was it to have a finger cut off?

However, he married Louise Mitchell after Amber Mitchell lost her finger, which was tantamount to another cruel blow to her.

“Yeah. How am I going to make it up to you? I really can’t make it up to you, can I?” George Gregory muttered as he suddenly raised his right hand.

Amber Mitchell looked surprised. Then, she saw George Gregory raise his left hand.

Just as she was confused, George Gregory suddenly grabbed his right thumb with his left hand. Then, she heard a crack…

Amber Mitchell was shocked. George Gregory was… breaking off his right thumb!

However, what surprised her more was that George Gregory continued to do it. From his thumb to the index finger and then the middle finger… The ring finger…

Finger by finger, the sound of bones cracking kept ringing in her ears.

“S-George Gregory, what are you doing?” Amber Mitchell asked in surprise.

“I… can’t make up for your pain, but at least I can feel it. You can cut off any of these fingers. You can even cut off all of them if you want!” A thin layer of sweat broke out on his forehead as his face grew paler. Even his lips turned ghastly pale. “You’re out of your mind!” She could think of no other words to describe what he was doing.

“Out of my mind… Yeah, I’m out of my mind…” he murmured as he smiled blankly. Perhaps he had gone mad the moment he knew the whole truth.

He was driven mad by regret and pain.

Crack!

There was another crack, and he broke off the pinky on his right hand.

Beads of sweat trickled down his forehead.

“I’m… sorry…” he gasped as he uttered the words. His body tottered, seemingly unable to stand still.

She was silent. His madness was beyond her imagination.

After a long while, she slowly said, “Leave. I don’t need you to make it up to me, and I don’t want to see you either. No matter how many times you apologize, it doesn’t mean anything to me.”

He seemed utterly dejected as he bent over slightly. His deep black eyes dimmed as if they had lost all their luster.

“Yeah, it doesn’t mean anything… It doesn’t mean anything…” he murmured.

Turning around, he walked away from her door. However, he had only taken a few steps when he suddenly fell flat on his face.

His face was pale, and he closed his eyes. He had seemingly fainted.

George Gregory only felt as though he had a very long dream.

In the dream, he and Amber Mitchell were about to get married. Herman Moss had gone abroad. There was no accident, no suspicion, and Amber Mitchell was never admitted to a mental hospital.

They were still in love. Besides that, to his delight, she had gotten pregnant. A few months after their marriage, she gave birth to a boy.

They were a happy family of three.

The dream was so beautiful that he was reluctant to wake up.

Once he woke up… what he had to face was the harsh reality!

“George, George…” There was a voice calling his name!

“Son, how did this happen all of a sudden? What’s going on?” Someone was sobbing. It was his mother’s voice.

It was time… to wake up!

George Gregory slowly opened his eyes and saw his parents’

faces.

“Dad… Mom… What are you…”

“What happened to you? Who did this to your hand? Did Amber Mitchell have someone break your hand?” Old Madam Gregory asked quickly.

The mention of Amber Mitchell made George Gregory’s expression change suddenly. “Where’s Amber Mitchell? W-Where is she? W-Why am I here?”

“She sent you to the hospital, but now she’s detained by the police at the police station,” said Old Madam Gregory.

“Detained? Why is she detained at the police station?” George Gregory asked hurriedly.

“She’s being held on suspicion of intentional injury!” Old Madam Gregory snapped.

However, George Gregory’s face turned paler as soon as she said this. He pulled off the thin blanket to get out of bed. “What are you doing? Stay in bed! They just got your fingers. in a cast. It’ll be all for nothing if you move. It’ll affect your fingers’ function!” Old Madam Gregory said hurriedly.

Old Master Gregory also pressed George Gregory’s shoulder. “Listen to your mother and go back to the bed!”

“I broke my fingers myself. Amber Mitchell has nothing to do with it. Even if she wanted to cripple my hands, I would’ve willingly let her do it! I’m going to the police station to explain things!” George Gregory said. He could not let Amber Mitchell suffer any more injustice.

However, it surprised Old Master Gregory and Old Madam Gregory as soon as he said this.

“What? You broke your fingers yourself?” The old couple looked at their son in disbelief.

“Yes, I broke them myself. Louise Mitchell cut off one of Amber Mitchell’s fingers. Even if I break all five of my fingers, I still can’t make up for that finger!”

It was the greatest pain to him!

“You… You…” Old Madam Gregory was so shocked that she was at a loss. She finally spoke after a long while, “Louise Mitchell cut off her… finger, not you. Why did you have to do this?”

George Gregory said bitterly, “Louise Mitchell? If I had defended Amber Mitchell when she got into trouble, Louise Mitchell wouldn’t have cut off her finger like that. I… I gave her that chance!”

“Even if you feel sorry for Amber Mitchell, you didn’t have to do that. We can compensate her with more money. Since you’re divorcing Louise Mitchell… you can marry her!” Old Madam Gregory said.

The Gregory family already knew that their grandson’s biological mother was Amber Mitchell.

Therefore, Old Madam Gregory did not object to her son marrying Amber Mitchell.

However, George Gregory seemed to have heard a joke after hearing it.

“Mom, do you know how much I want to marry her? But it’s impossible! She won’t forgive me, let alone marry me. She won’t look at me twice even if I give her my life,” George Gregory said mournfully. The pain on his face looked as if he was already in hell.

Old Madam Gregory gave a sharp gasp and staggered.

Old Master Gregory quickly grabbed his wife.

“Why are you…” Old Madam Gregory tried to say something, but all the words seemed stuck in her throat.

George Gregory got out of the hospital bed. He rushed straight out of the ward.

Old Madam Gregory watched her son disappear while she was in a trance. She eventually fell into her husband’s arms as she cried.

“Why did this happen… Why…” Old Madam Gregory muttered.

Old Master Gregory could only pat his wife on the shoulder and comfort her by saying, “Maybe things aren’t as bad as we think. Don’t overthink it…”
