“Amber Mitchell, do you think you haven’t cheated on me enough? So, you’re trying to remember Herman Moss by holding onto the bracelet he gave you? It’s best to destroy something like this!” He said as he held out his hand to one side.
There was a drain on the ground beside him. Once the bracelet fell into the drain, it would be difficult to find it again.
Amber Mitchell yelled, “No! George Gregory, don’t destroy it. I won’t forgive you if you destroy it!”
“You won’t forgive me?” He chuckled suddenly. “Why do I need you to forgive me? Who do you think you are? I’m the one who will never forgive you!”
Her face instantly paled. “This is what Herman gave me. You snatching it will be considered robbery if I report it to the police!”
“Robbery?” George Gregory sneered, but his eyes grew colder. “At most, I just lost it by accident, I can compensate you with the full price or even double it. Do you think the police are going, to treat this as robbery? Do I, George Gregory, need to steal a bracelet?”
Amber Mitchell was tottering slightly. She closed her eyes, knowing George Gregory was blaming her for old and new grudges.
Maybe the only way to save the bracelet was to give in to George Gregory.
“Alright, what do I have to do so that you can return the bracelet thought me?” Amber Mitchell asked.
George Gregory said coldly, “There’s nothing you can do! Did you ever think of me when you and Herman Moss made me the laughing stock of Deer City?”
“I told you, Herman and I never wronged you!” Amber Mitchell shouted.
However, George Gregory’s eyes were full of disbelief.
“You don’t believe me, do you?” Amber Mitchell asked.
“Why don’t we make a bet if you want me to believe you? Lie down on the street and see if a car comes along and spots you. I’ll believe you if it stops and you survive. If you get run over by the car, you can only blame yourself for being unlucky!” George Gregory said nonchalantly.
Amber Mitchell’s heart sank when she heard this. He was asking her to gamble with her life!
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as if in thought. Moments later, her dark eyes opened, and her red lips gently uttered, “Okay, I’ll do it! If I survive, give me back my bracelet!” With that said, she looked intently at the bracelet again before setting off down the street without hesitation.
The sky was already dark. The cars driving on this street would often drive a little faster because there were not many cars. There were not many streetlights around either. If the driver was not careful, they could easily run over her.
However… she could not lose the bracelet no matter what.
It was the most precious thing that Herman left her.
When Amber Mitchell stood in the middle of the road, looking at the street with no traffic, all she could think of was… it would be nice to be with Herman in the afterlife if she did die.
Since they had all the evidence for Louise Mitchell’s case, the Moss family would not spare Louise Mitchell. She could avenge Herman’s death, so she would have nothing to regret.
Amber Mitchell lay straight down in the middle of the road with no fear on her face.
On the roadside nearby, George Gregory’s face was full of shock.
He never expected her to agree to a bet like that!
Her goal was only to get the bracelet back.
She looked fearless as she lay on the ground, but a chill ran up his back as if he were covered with cold sweat.
‘Is this bracelet that Herman Moss gave her that important to her? Is it so important that she can risk her life for it?’ His right hand clutching the bracelet was trembling, and his face was full of fear that even he could not describe!
When he saw car lights flashing in the distance, he trembled all over. However, when he saw the car getting closer and closer to Louise Mitchell, he rushed out and stretched out his arms to stop it without thinking much.
‘No! She can’t die!
‘I won’t let her die!’
The car screeched to a halt. The driver poked his head out and shouted, “Are you crazy? Are you in a hurry to die by suddenly running out into the middle of the road?”
However, he did not mind that person’s scolding at all. He could only think of her, who was lying on the ground!
“Have you lost your mind?” George Gregory turned and yanked Amber Mitchell off the ground as he glared at her.
Amber Mitchell said indifferently, “Isn’t this what you asked for? I only accepted your bet. Did I win the bet when you rushed out like that? If not, get out of the way. I can do it again.”
“Do you have a death wish?” He snapped.
“I don’t, but I want this bracelet.” This was her answer to him, and she said it calmly as if she was merely stating a simple fact.
George Gregory’s right hand clenched into a fist, and the diamond bracelet he held in his hand hurt his palm.
“How important is Herman Moss to you? Have you forgotten that you were my fiancée? Why would you risk your life for a bracelet he gave you?” He growled in a low voice, his jealousy seemingly bursting through him.
“Herman sacrificed his life for me. What’s wrong with me risking my life for the bracelet he gave me?
George Gregory, how dare you say I was your fiancée? My fiancé should be someone who believes me even when others don’t. He would come forward to protect me when others bullied me. He would do anything to help me if I was in trouble…”
Her voice rang, and he grew pale with each word.
“George Gregory, you were never really my fiancé. You were just a fantasy of mine at the time.” She had fantasized that he could shelter her from everything and be faithful to her.
However, she realized in the end that he had never been what she thought he was.
“Fantasy?” George Gregory murmured the word. He seemed to look gaunt all of a sudden.
His right hand loosened, and the bracelet he had been holding between his fingers fell to the ground.
Amber Mitchell threw herself at the bracelet, grasped it firmly, and held it over her heart. She cried and laughed. She had regained something precious.
However, the way she looked hurt his eyes and made him not want to take another look.
Herman Moss… won her over with just a bracelet.
He, George Gregory, was probably nothing to her now!
George Gregory returned to the car and looked down blankly at his palm. His right palm still had marks left by the bracelet.
‘What the hell is wrong with me? Did I get so angry because of a bracelet and Amber Mitchell?’
He was no longer… behaving like himself.
“Drive back to Gregory Residence.” George Gregory closed his eyes and said wearily.
‘Amber Mitchell, Amber Mitchell…’ Just the thought of the name hurt him!
Amber Mitchell returned to her place. Looking at the bracelet in her hand, she solemnly put it back in the jewelry box.
“Herman, I’ll wear this bracelet in a few days and… never take it off again,” murmured Amber Mitchell.
The case would go to trial in two weeks. She had asked Brian to help her find evidence, and with the Moss family looking into the case, it would be difficult for the Gregory family to tamper with the evidence.
Louise Mitchell would pay for her crimes this time! What she did not know was that George Gregory was looking at a bunch of photos sent to his email in the Gregory family house’s study. These photos were taken after he ran into Louise Mitchell today.
His facial expressions in the photos were gloomy, ferocious, angry, and helpless. However, out of all those emotions, what he saw on his face the most was… jealousy!
Yes, jealousy!
Anyone looking at the photos would think he was a man mad with love and jealousy!
Was he jealous of Herman Moss?
He was jealous of Amber Mitchell’s love for Herman Moss. He was a man who had been dead for so many years, yet he could still occupy such an important place in her heart!
He was only jealous because he loved Amber Mitchell!
No matter how reluctant he was, these photos seemed to easily shatter his pretense and make him admit it!
Moments later, his phone rang. George Gregory said coldly, “I’ve received the photos. I’ll buy all of them. You’re not allowed to publish any of them. If I ever see any one of these photos leaked, you can forget about living in peace.”
“Yes, yes, Mr. Gregory. I won’t leak them as long as you’re willing to buy them,” the person said obsequiously.
