Amber Mitchell’s expression changed. “I’ll sue you if you do that! Deer City will learn all about your scandal by then! I think Herman would only feel sorry for me because a monster had its way with me.”
The air in the car tensed suddenly. “Then why don’t I try and see if you’ll sue me!”
He said as he proceeded to undress her.
She looked at him coldly but did not resist.
“What’s the matter? Aren’t you going to resist me? Is your so-called love for Herman Moss just all talk?”
he asked.
Amber Mitchell only said calmly, “I can’t fight you if you really want to have your way with me. If I had done everything I wanted to do, I would fight you to the death. But I still have things to do.”
Therefore, she could not let anything happen to her. She could not get caught by the police.
“Is putting Louise Mitchell, your father, and your stepmother in jail what you want to do? Are you even willing to give up all resistance for this purpose?” He mocked.
However, she did not answer and just slowly closed her eyes.
What she wanted more than putting all three members of the Mitchell family in jail was to find out who killed Herman. She wanted to give Herman the truth!
She was in the car with her eyes closed, and underneath her clothes lay a battered body. There was barely a patch of skin intact and countless old wounds.
George Gregory froze. He knew she had been hurt, but he never imagined that she was hurt so badly.
These injuries stung his eyes. The moment he caught sight of them, his blood seemed to freeze. His heart constricted violently as waves of pain surged within him!
“F*ck off! F*ck off!” George Gregory suddenly shouted.
Amber Mitchell opened her eyes, hurriedly pulling her clothes together. She rushed out of the car in a fluster. She kept running ahead as if she wanted to escape from the car and the person.
George Gregory leaned heavily on the back of the chair as he stared blankly at his hands. Then, he clenched his fist and slammed it on the seat.
‘Why… Why am I so filled with anger but with nowhere to vent? It’s so uncomfortable!
‘And… Why is my heart in so much pain?
‘It hurt when I saw… her wounds!’
“What? The doctors changed their statements?” Amber Mitchell asked as she looked at the lawyer in disbelief.
“Yes.” The lawyer was a little frustrated too. “Now, the evidence can only prove that your father and stepmother were involved, but Louise Mitchell had no idea about it. And because of the changes in the statements, your father and stepmother will probably receive a lighter sentence as well. Louise Mitchell… might get acquitted.”
Amber Mitchell clenched her hands into fists, and the veins on the back of her hands almost burst.
‘Acquitted? No way!
‘How can that vicious woman, Louise Mitchell, go free?
‘Louise Mitchell not only sent me to the mental hospital, but she was also the one who tortured me…’
Amber Mitchell felt a pang at the thought of the evidence she had just discovered.
“Why would those doctors suddenly change their statements? Have they been in contact with anyone else?” Amber Mitchell asked urgently.
“There was a food poisoning incident at the detention center, so they were all taken to the hospital for tests,” the lawyer said.
Amber Mitchell’s heart sank. They might have met someone there and negotiated the terms, which was why they suddenly changed their statements.
Could George Gregory have done that?
George Gregory once said he would protect Louise Mitchell, so was this George Gregory’s plan?
“Is there no way to convict Louise Mitchell based on the evidence we currently have?” Amber Mitchell asked.
The lawyer said, “It’s difficult unless there’s new evidence. I’m sorry. Grace asked me to help you before she left Deer City, but I haven’t been very helpful.”
Amber Mitchell said, “No, you’ve helped me so much already. Thank you, Lawyer Gan. I’ll try to work things around. Perhaps there’s a way to turn things around.”
With that said, she got up and walked out of the law firm. She headed for Moss Enterprise.
Daley Moss looked at Amber Mitchell in his office. “You came to see me about my brother’s car accident, right? Have you thought of anything else?
“Several doctors involved have changed their statements in the lawsuit against the Mitchell family. The lawyer just told me that Louise Mitchell will likely be acquitted once she goes to court,” said Amber Mitchell.
Daley Moss said unconcernedly, “I’ve never cared about her guilt or innocence. If you’re looking to me to help you get her convicted, you’ve come to the wrong guy. I’m the last person in Deer City who’ll help you!”
“It’s not for me but Herman!” Amber Mitchell corrected.
Daley Moss’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean?”
“The person behind the accident is either Louise Mitchell or connected to Louise Mitchell. “If Louise Mitchell is acquitted and released, it’ll be difficult to bring her to justice if she goes abroad.” Amber Mitchell took a deep breath and took out a photo.
The photo showed a woman dressed as a waitress. She looked to be about 27 or 28 years old.
“This is a photo of a woman named Sandra Lucas from the information you gave me before. One month after the accident, I happened to see this woman looking for Louise Mitchell at the entrance of the Mitchell family’s house. Come to think of it, her gaze was evasive, and she lowered her head when she saw me. But I didn’t think much of it at the time.” After a pause, Amber Mitchell continued saying, “I investigated it the other day. Sandra Lucas resigned three days after the car accident. She told her colleagues that she had made a lot of money buying stocks and was going to enjoy her fortune. However, she had never opened any accounts in the stock market.
“On the third day after the accident, Louise Mitchell’s bank account had one million dollars unaccounted for. One month later, another sum of five million dollars was unaccounted for. Sandra Lucas left Deer City and became a missing person. They found her corpse in a town near Deer City half a year later.”
“So, you suspect that Sandra Lucas has something to do with this?” Daley Moss asked rhetorically.
Amber Mitchell said, “Don’t you think it’s suspicious? I’ve checked, and Sandra Lucas only had one younger brother, but he moved elsewhere soon after Sandra Lucas’s body was found. I hope the Moss family can help me find Sandra Lucas’s brother’s whereabouts. Her brother may be the only breakthrough. I don’t think you’d want Herman’s death to go unexplained and the real killer to go unpunished, Mr. Moss.”
Daley Moss stared at Amber Mitchell with her thin lips pressed together tightly. “I hope you’re telling the truth. If you’re taking advantage of the Moss family for your own revenge, there’s no way I’ll let you off the hook.”
4/4 “You can kill me at any time if I’m lying to you. I won’t have any objections,” Amber Mitchell said bluntly.
A large reason why she was staying alive was to help Herman catch his killer rather than getting justice for herself.
Grace’s examination report was officially released one week later. The hospital also did a consultation on Grace’s current condition. The conclusion was that the pregnancy could go on for now, but they had to monitor it closely, especially the baby’s nutrition absorption and the placenta’s location.
If the placenta was not in place, immediate termination might be required.
The results were much better than Grace had expected.
Grace said, “Jay, don’t say anything about my pregnancy until the placenta grows.” If the placenta was not in a good position, the pregnancy would have to be terminated as soon as possible. Otherwise, if the placenta ruptured, the baby would die, and so would she.
However… she wanted to keep the baby while she had the chance.
“Okay,” said Jason as he gently took her hand. “Grace, I’m sorry for putting you through this all over again.”
Grace shook her head. “It’s nothing. I told you I wanted to give you a home and many children so that our family can be lively and happy.” She only wished for God to have mercy on her and let her deliver the baby safely.
“You’ve given me everything you promised me,” he muttered, pulling her hand to his check and gently rubbing it against her palm.
The Reed family was no longer as cold and cheerless as before. There was laughter every day.
Their family would only grow bigger and bigger, becoming happier as well.
What the old master had predicted was wrong after all!
The reason why humans were humans was that they had weaknesses. One would only have something one cared for and have the chance to experience joys and sorrows if one had weaknesses!
One would only be a machine if one had no weaknesses.
“Grace, you make me happy. All I’m asking of you is to not take my happiness away, okay?” He murmured, pleading and hoping.
“I won’t do that. We have to accompany each other for a lifetime!” Grace said as she hugged Jason back.
Since Kyla was still in the hospital’s inpatient department, the two returned to the inpatient department.
Kyla looked much better than before. She could get out of bed and walk now. She could have a normal diet too. She could not feed the newborn because of her medication, but she had gone to the neonatal care unit to see her baby through the transparent glass walls.
