Grace then realized why he was apologizing.

“What’s there to apologize for? I’m actually glad I’m pregnant again,” said Grace. After all, she thought she would only have her triplets in her life.

However, she now had another baby.

“Glad?” Jason narrowed his eyes slightly, but there was no joy in those dark peach blossom eyes, only worry.

Before Grace reacted, Jason grabbed Grace’s hand and said, “Let’s go inside first. It’s cold outside.”

After entering the mansion, Jason asked the servants to leave first.

“Are the children asleep?” Grace asked.

“Yeah, they are. They have no idea you were coming back today. Otherwise, they would’ve probably waited until you got back,” said Jason, his worried eyes resting on her flat belly. “Are you planning to give birth to the baby in your belly?”

Grace nodded and said, “Since I’ve gotten pregnant, I want to give birth to them, of course.”

He was silent with a rare look of hesitation on his handsome face as if he was trying to decide what to say next.

The way he behaved filled Grace with anxiety.

“Do you not want the baby?” she asked.

He pressed his thin lips together before finally sighing. “I want our baby. How can I not? But the doctor said that your uterus was damaged when you carried the triplets. You weren’t even fit to give birth to the triplets. And you wouldn’t be fit for any more pregnancies even if you managed to give birth to the triplets.”

It was because… it was too dangerous.

He was afraid that she would be in danger again, so he chose to undergo a vasectomy.

However, he did not expect her to get pregnant anyway.

It was not impossible, though. Perhaps if he had been more careful and gone back to the hospital to check his condition post-operation, he would have noticed the situation earlier and prevented her from getting pregnant.

His mind almost went blank when she called him and told him that the driver would be driving her home today because she was pregnant.

There was no joy but fear.

He lost her for five years back then. She finally came back, and he did not want to lose her again.

People who had lost something knew how precious it was to have it again.

“Grace, we already have three kids. They’re enough, aren’t they?” Jason murmured.

Grace bit her lip slightly, lowered her head, and gently caressed her belly. Though he did not directly reject the idea of keeping the baby, she understood what he meant.

If she were not pregnant, she would use contraceptives and choose not to have children.

However, the accident had happened, and she had gotten pregnant. How could a mother give up her child so easily? Taking a deep breath, she looked up at Jason. “It’s still unclear how the baby is doing and what my physical condition is like. We still need another pregnancy check-up. Why don’t we decide after getting the results of the check-up?”

He looked at her wary eyes and finally uttered softly, “Okay.”

Grace finally let out a sigh of relief. She raised her hand, hugged Jason, and said, “Jay, don’t worry. It’s been six years since I last gave birth. Since I had a C-section, I can have another baby after two years.

Besides, I’ve been taking care of my health. It won’t be that bad.”

“No matter what happens, promise me you’ll prioritize yourself if you have to choose between you and the baby, okay? I don’t want to face the same situation as Martin Weiss one day!” Jason murmured.

Grace froze, knowing that he had thought of Kyla’s current situation. Kyla had been in the hospital every day. Martin Weiss said nothing about it, but he would go to the hospital every day in the dead of night.

Kyla had no idea about this.

She only knew because Jay had told her on the phone earlier. The bodyguard he had assigned to protect Kyla at the hospital told him about it.

They also discussed exactly what Martin Weiss thought of Kyla now.

“He must still love Kyla. It’s not his character to spend long hours in her ward every night.”

“Do you think Martin Weiss would be willing to… save Kyla if something happens to her?”

“Yes.” Jason could not have been more sure.

However, she was not that confident. After all, hypnosis had made him forget his feelings. Even though Martin Weiss had some feelings for Kyla, were they deep enough to put himself in danger to save Kyla and their child?

“Grace, at least Martin Weiss can use his blood and liver to save Kyla if she’s in danger. But if you’re in real danger, what can I offer for your safety?” He had lived in fear every day when she was pregnant with the triplets. He watched her suffer for them, yet he could do nothing about it.

Did he have to go through all that fear and helplessness again?

Grace felt sad. His voice was soft. He did not shout nor sob, but it made her feel like crying.

“It’s still early. I’m only six weeks pregnant. We’ll decide whether or not to keep the baby after going for a more thorough examination at the hospital, okay?” Grace asked. She thought of her unexpected pregnancy as a happy event.

She did not expect him to be so afraid.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry…” He kept apologizing.

“There’s nothing to apologize for. Maybe God decided three kids aren’t enough for us and wants to add another little life to our family.” She kissed him as she spoke, “Trust me. I’ll cherish my life because I want to be there for you and the kids. I won’t be impulsive…”

‘She won’t?’ He accepted her soothing kiss passively.

She risked her life to save those three kids back then. What would she risk for the baby in her belly now?

Martin Weiss came to Kyla’s ward again at night. He could not explain why he could only calm down and fall asleep after seeing her sleeping face in the dead of night.

However, what surprised him this time was that she was not asleep when he walked into the ward.

He turned around, wanting to leave.

“Don’t go!” shouted Kyla. She would have run out of bed to grab him had her belly not made it difficult to get on and out of bed.

Martin Weiss paused and stayed in the ward.

“Are you here to see me?” Kyla asked.

“So what if I am?” he asked, his eyes falling on her sallow face. Her complexion was getting worse these days, and he knew it was a sign that her liver was failing.

She was already in bad shape. Even if they took out the baby, her current liver would not last much longer.

“I’m happy if you are. And if you’re not, I feel lucky to have seen you,” replied Kyla.

His eyes narrowed. “Are women so fickle? When I appeared in front of you, you told me not to appear in front of you again and bother your peaceful life. Now, you feel happy and lucky? Kyla, don’t you think it’s too ironic of you to say that?”

“It’s fine that you think I’m fickle.” She smiled. Even though the doctor had not said anything to her, she could still feel the changes in her body.

Her liver must be failing her, and her body was getting more and more overwhelmed.

“Will you come closer so that I can take a better look at you?” she asked. She might not be able to see him like this in years to come.

She did not even know whether she would be able to complete their so-called contract. If something happened to her and she died before completing the contract, their marriage would be void.

He would be a free man again when that happened.

“Is that necessary? Do you think you haven’t seen enough of me?” Martin Weiss asked coldly.

Kyla replied, “It’s necessary. I want to take a good look at you.”

His thin lips were pressed together tightly as he walked over to her bedside and sat down on a chair nearby. “Alright, you can look.”

She studied his face carefully. She looked at his eyes, nose, lips… “Tell me. What do you think our second child will look like? The doctor hinted that the baby is going to be a girl. I think she’ll be adorable.”

After a pause, she said, “Martin Weiss, let’s take a family photo together after I’m discharged, okay?

That way, we’ll at least have been a family once even if we do part in the end.”
