“Excited about what, Firebug?”
“Korine decided to stay back and train at Chosen village. She will take the Anointing ritual on the next full moon.”
Mac sniffed her again and then placed her down on her feet. He turned around and faced Korine. “You are one of the most deserving Chosen I have had the privilege to meet. Fire burns in your heart. You have Fire’s blessing” He bowed at his waist and then took a knee.
River quickly kissed Araiya and followed suit. “It would be an honour if you would be a Chosen of Water. If the Goddess blesses my element. Water heals all wounds. You have Water’s blessing.” He bowed and took his knee.
“Araiya…”
Terran walked over slowly and kissed Araiya for the first time. It went on longer than expected and there was someone clearing their throat. Terran chuckled as finished his kiss. “Earth will not be rushed. Especially when it comes to my mate and I’s first kiss.” He kissed her again and then turned to Korine.
“You have come from Earth, and will fall to Earth. In Earth you have grown to be who you are. The Earth mother would always welcome you home, but she says you have a greater element that calls you. But she will always greet you as kin. You have Earth’s blessing.” Terran bowed and took his knee.
Talon held back and bowed to Araiya. “I don’t think you need me touching you, not with your mates behind me.”
Talon turned to Korine. “You are a better Protector then I have ever been. I have done you a disservice by speaking about you before getting to know your true self. For that and everything else, I sincerely apologize. The winds of change always blow and you have grown and evolved with them. May you continue on your journey with the wind at your back. You have Air’s blessing.” Talon bowed and took his knee.
“What’s going on?” Korine looked at the men in front of her and Araiya giggled at the slight panic in her eyes.
“They are accepting you, idiot.” Araiya laughed out loud when the four men on the ground chuckled.
The four men got to their feet at the exact same time. Korine jumped back, causing her to fall on the bed with a squeak. Everyone laughed at that, even her. “That was unexpected.” Korine got back to her feet and bowed to the men. “Thank you, for accepting me as you did. I don’t know what it means exactly, but I appreciate it nonetheless. I guess Ember and I have to get ready for a different journey.”
“You both can stay in my room, as long as you don’t mind sharing the bed.” Araiya hugged Korine. “Ask one of the Chosen there for Chosen Amara and Rocky. I will have River write them a message to explain everything.” Araiya kissed Korine’s temple. “I will see you when we get back, Chosen Korine.”
Korine nodded and her and Ember left the room.
Soft sniffles could be heard from the corner and Araiya walked over to where Brooke was trying to hide her tears. “What is wrong, Brooke?”
“Nothing dearie, just watching you with my boys there, it hurts a little. In a good way. I am so very happy for my boys. I just never got to experience it, and I know it is the Goddess’s plan, it just hurts a little is all.” Brooke quickly left the room after her confession.
“What do you mean we won’t remember?
How can you make us forget you? Our lives? How is that fair?” Araiya walked closer to the fighting. The voices came from the end of the hall.
Araiya turned into the room, where a young Zephyr was pacing in front of the open balcony.
“Zeph, I am so sorry, but we have no choice. We have to protect the spark at all cost. Callin is getting everything ready to go and Jay and I are ready. I just needed to get everything else in order. That includes your task.”
“I don’t want to forget, I don’t want to turn.”
“He will corrupt one of you. It has already been written.”
“I will do it.” River stood and approached Zeph. “I will do this instead.”
“Eta, you can’t. The others need your guidance, we all will need your guidance once Soren is gone. I just don’t want to forget or turn on my brothers.” Zeph rushed to Soren and dropped to his knees. “There has to be another way. I can’t live knowing that they will come to hate me. That I will betray them. You’re my family.”
“If there was any other way, I would do it. I swear it,” Soren cried. “You are the best of us Zeph, and I will miss your free spirit the most. My funny, spirited boy. We will meet again, beyond the veil. Death is not the end for us.”
“Will it hurt? Forgetting?” Zeph’s lip trembled, and that small act broke Araiya’s heart. All of it was planned, even this.
“No dear boy, it won’t. It will fade gradually, and before you know it, I will be gone from your memory.”
“Will everyone hate me?” Zeph buried his face in her lap, hiding his face.
“They may, I cannot guarantee that, but just know. Someone will know the truth. Callin will remember. And once the seal is broken, everyone will remember your sacrifice.”
“Will I ever get to meet my mate, before I turn?” His last whisper was muffled, but his defeated voice was heard by everyone, even Araiya.
“I hope so. Goddess, I hope so.” Soren tried to hold it together as she petted his hair, but once the saltiness of his tears perforated the room, she broke. Her sobs racked her body as her brother, her best friend, broke because of her choices. She was taking everything from him. And he could do nothing but obey, and pray that he would somehow make it out.
“Let me take his place. Any of us.” Mac wiped his tears, as he begged for a different solution. “Zeph is different from us. He is still-“
“He is still young,” Terran interjected.
“He is the same age as all of us. He is just…”
