“Kian, you bastard! You’re an adulterer!”
“Kian and Teresa, you are both shameless!”
Teresa was bewildered, not understanding what was going on. This was not the response she had expected. She opened a news article in confusion and saw screenshots of message threads between Evie and Kian, along with photos of gifts Kian had given Evie.
It turned out Evie and Kian had been in a real relationship. Teresa’s expression changed drastically. Kian leaned over to see her phone, surprised that Evie had done this. Did she love him so much that she had to ruin him? Could it be that her love had turned into hate?
But Kian wasn’t flustered. “Honey, don’t worry. I’ll have someone go to public relations to clarify the situation right away.”
Meanwhile, the online community felt sorry for Evie:
“It turns out Evie and Kian have been together for so long. Teresa is just a wicked woman who snatched someone else’s man. She’s the real side chick but dares to accuse the legitimate girlfriend!”
“I don’t know what Teresa looks like, but Evie is truly beautiful. How can Kian cheat on her? Is he blind? What a pity! He doesn’t deserve Evie at all.”
“Kian is trash. He’s such a scumbag. Let’s all block him!”
“That’s right! Kian is a shameless asshole. He had a girlfriend but still had an affair. He’s not a decent person!”
“Kian must apologize. He and Teresa must apologize to Evie.”
These two even accused Evie of ruining their relationship. It turned out they were the ones cheating on her. “How absurd! I’ve really learned a lot from these two cheaters.”
As the backlash continued, Kian released a statement:
“I admit that what Evie posted is true. But I only pretended to agree to date her because I felt sorry for her. I was afraid she would hurt herself if I rejected her. The person who truly owns my heart is Teresa. I love her. I didn’t tell Evie earlier, fearing she wouldn’t be able to accept it.”
His statement shifted some netizens’ opinions, making them feel sorry for him:
“Oh, Kian! You’re too kind. Such a gentleman!”
“Really? I didn’t expect this side of the story. This matter really has a lot of twists and turns.”
“I can’t believe this. Did Evie threaten Kian to be with him?”
“I knew Kian wasn’t that kind of person. Evie, you are so mean. You threatened him to be with you, and now you’re slandering him. But he is still very kind to you. Don’t you feel ashamed?”
“In this case, I’m curious about the threat. How did Evie threaten Kian?”
“I also want to know what Evie did to threaten Kian,” a commenter typed. Kian replied in the comments section, “Evie has never really become popular and has been under a lot of mental pressure. She tried to harm herself multiple times, but I stopped her each time. I felt sorry for her, so I agreed to be with her, hoping it would help her recover. I only wanted to help; I never had feelings for her.” Kian portrayed himself as a good person.
The online community was skeptical, but their criticism softened. Just then, Larson, Evie’s agent, stepped in. He publicly supported Kian, stating, “I’m truly sorry for all the negative news. Evie has been struggling emotionally for a while, and we’re grateful for Kian’s efforts. Evie will now take some time to rest.”
The netizens, who had been doubtful just moments before, noticed Evie’s agent defending Kian. Why wouldn’t they believe it?
“So, Evie was at fault all along. Kian tried to help her, yet she turned against him. How disgraceful!”
“Kian is so unfortunate. He’s so kind, yet people still criticize him…”
After reading the comments, Teresa felt a wave of relief wash over her.
Meanwhile, at the Patton family’s home, Isabella was on the phone with Evie in her bedroom.
“Isabella, Kian is so despicable!” Evie exclaimed, disgust and resentment clear in her voice. “And Larson is a scoundrel!”
Isabella reassured her, “It’s good that we see their true colors now. Have you prepared everything I asked for?”
Evie replied, “Yes, everything’s ready. Should I release it now?”
“Not yet,” Isabella said, catching Evie off guard.
Evie questioned, “Why not? When do you think we should release it?”
Isabella explained, “Public opinion is still spreading. If you post it now, people online will likely hold back and wait to see what happens. They won’t believe you right away. The situation is too uncertain at the moment. It’s better to wait two days when the news has spread more widely. That way, you’ll attract more attention and gain greater trust.”
“Oh, I see. Isabella, you’re so clever! Have you studied public relations?” Evie admired.
“You pick up a few tricks here and there.”
“You’re amazing.”
Taking Isabella’s advice, Evie decided to hold off on releasing the information for now.
As predicted, the news continued to circulate. Two days later, the Patton Group’s mid-year event began, inviting everyone to Dillon Manor. Many attendees had never visited before and were in awe.
“This place is absolutely stunning! I’ve never been to a manor before—this is my first time.”
“This place is indeed magnificent. I’d be happy to work here for the rest of my life.”
The group marveled at their surroundings, clearly impressed. However, Teresa remained composed. Liza, trying to contain her excitement, asked Teresa, “Do you come here often?”
“Well, I live in a manor, so it’s nothing new to me,” Teresa replied, attempting to sound nonchalant.
“Oh, I’m so jealous! Can we visit your place sometime?” Liza asked eagerly.
A few others joined in, curious about the Patton family home, which they assumed must be even grander than Dillon Manor. Teresa kept her calm facade, though she felt a twinge of annoyance at their eagerness. “Let’s talk about it later,” she said dismissively.
“Okay. Let’s go check out the rooms now,” Liza suggested. They headed into one of the villas, where the rooms were assigned by drawing lots.
The most stunning room was the sea-view room on the third floor. It was the largest in the villa, featuring a beautiful balcony where guests could relax. Isabella happened to draw this room.
As soon as she set down her suitcase, she noticed a few people standing outside, enviously eyeing the room. Isabella didn’t mind and even let them in to take a look.
Everyone admired the balcony. “This balcony is amazing! Imagine having drinks here in the evening.”
“Yeah, and the room is so spacious.”
Isabella stayed quiet, understanding their curiosity as they explored.
Suddenly, Liza called out, “Isabella!” Isabella turned to her.
Liza continued, “You should give this room to Teresa. It’s a waste for you to have such a large room all to yourself.”
Isabella tilted her head, wondering if she’d heard correctly. “And wouldn’t it be a waste for her to have it all to herself?”
“Teresa is a Patton. We’re here because of the Patton Group. Naturally, the best room should go to her,” Liza asserted. “We should be good to Teresa. The Patton Group will surely notice if they see us treating her well.”
Teresa hadn’t considered this before, but Liza’s suggestion sparked her imagination. She began picturing herself enjoying the beautiful room. With her arms crossed, she waited for Isabella to hand over the room.
Isabella remained expressionless. “If you want to flatter Teresa, that’s your business. Don’t drag me into it.” She called out Liza’s intentions, leaving her slightly embarrassed.
“What are you talking about, Isabella? I wasn’t flattering her. We’re colleagues; isn’t it normal to help each other out?” Liza retorted.
“Help each other? How come you didn’t help me then?” Isabella shot back with a sneer. “You’re trying to throw your colleagues under the bus to impress Teresa. But why should I be the one sacrificed?”
Liza was at a loss for words, her body trembling. She believed Isabella lacked proper social etiquette. Sensing the growing tension, Teresa intervened. “Let’s drop it. There’s no point in arguing over a room. I was considering asking my brother to show our department more care, but it seems Isabella isn’t interested, so let’s forget that idea.”
This caught the attention of the other sycophants, who then turned to Isabella. “Isabella, did you hear that? Teresa could get Mr. Patton to favor us, which would boost our standing in the company. Wouldn’t that be beneficial?”
“Exactly, Isabella. You shouldn’t let your selfishness impact all of us,” another chimed in.
Isabella looked at the three sycophants and chuckled. “If Mr. Patton were so easily influenced, the Patton Group would have collapsed long ago. Only naive people would believe Teresa’s claims. If she could truly sway Mr. Patton to favor our department, why would she have waited until now?”
The three felt embarrassed after being scolded and looked toward Teresa for guidance.
Teresa’s lips pursed as she responded coldly, “I may be a Patton, but I don’t misuse company resources for personal gain, which is why I’ve never done it. Forget it. Isabella is just being petty. I won’t engage in this squabble.”
With that, Teresa walked out of the room in her high heels, leaving Emeline and others dumbfounded.
