I frowned, shaking my head. “Don’t say that. You’ve made met the happiest girl, Zane.”

“You’re going through a lot and I haven’t been able to help. But I promise you it won’t happen again.”

“It wasn’t your fault,” I said softly. “You did everything you could, Zane.”

“I didn’t,” he sighed. “I should’ve found a way to not leave you alone.”

“For even a second?” I raised my brows.

“Yeah,” he replied. “I should’ve gotten the tracker earlier. I messed up.”

I cupped his cheeks, shaking my head. “You did everything you could. Nothing that happened was your fault.”

“Blake got to you before I did, Lia. That’s a failure like no other.”

“It’s not a competition, Zane.”

“Are you sure?” He raised his brows. “Because it definitely feels like the Moon Goddess has pit us against each other.”

I released a slow breath, moving closer to him. “Yes, Zane, I’m sure it’s not a competition. You know why?”

He stared at me with his gentle blue eyes, his gaze flickering to my lips for a second. “Why?”

“Because you’re the love of my life and he’s someone I don’t even like.”

A tiny, but gorgeous smile stretched across his lips. “Hm.”

I lightly slapped his cheek. “Idiot.”

He gaped, narrowing his eyes. “You’re gonna pay for that.” He grabbed both my wrists and pulled me into his lap, making me squeal. He pushed my hands behind my back, pressing me tightly against himself. I stared up at him with wide eyes, my stomach and heart doing flips.

“Zane,” I whispered.

“What? You thought you can slap your Alpha and get away with it?” His eyes turned black for a split second to

I laughed. “You’re not my Alpha.” add effect.

Zane cocked up a brow. “Are you trying to get into trouble, love?”

“I’m just stating facts.”

Without warning, he attacked my neck with kisses, making me squeal and squirm against his hold. He was leaving quick, sloppy kisses all over, his light stubble tickling me in the process. I laughed, struggling to free myself.

“Say, ‘I’m sorry, Alpha,’ ten times over,” he murmured against my neck.

I clenched my jaw, trying my best to resist, but he amplified the torture on my neck.

“Alright!” I screamed between laughs. “I’m sorry, Alpha!”

“Nine more,” he ordered, giving me only a second of relief before going right back to it.

“I’m sorry, Alpha. I’m-Zane!” I cried as he suddenly licked me.

Zane laughed, the sound spreading warmth inside me.

“I’m sorry, Alpha,” I began again. This time, I managed to say it eight times. “It’s done! Ten times!”

Zane finally pulled away from me and let go of my hands.

I immediately slapped his chest, scowling at him. “That was so mean.’

He narrowed his eyes. “You just slapped my chest. I discipline you, and you defy me immediately after,” he said in a low, dangerous tone.

My eyes widened, heart skipping a beat.

“Zane, no,” I whispered.

His expression softened, and he chuckled. “Relax,” he grinned, “just teasing you.” He ran his hands through my hair and kissed my forehead.

I melted into his arms, closing my eyes.

There was nothing to worry about today. Whatever would happen would come tomorrow.

-LIA’S POV-

Zane spent the night at my house, this time after asking Mom and Dad for permission. He asked if I wanted to call Christy over, to have that movie night we had talked about, but I refused. I wasn’t sure if I was safe to be around. I didn’t want to put my friend into unnecessary trouble.

In the morning, I woke up next to Zane, his arm tight around my waist. A bit too tight.

I gazed at him, at his dark, thick eyelashes, his matching hair that looked soft as silk, and his enticing, plump lips that begged to be kissed.

But Zane didn’t look like he was at peace.

His eyebrows were almost knitted together, lines of worry etched on his forehead. The hold he had around my waist was also a signal. Zane was afraid I’d leave again. That I’d turn into something and run out to look for Blake, even though he was right beside me.

I looked away from him, staring at the ceiling. Blake was going to come over today. Zane would be hurt when he’d find out. But I knew he would understand when I’d tell him my reasons. He trusted me, even if he didn’t trust Blake.

He moaned softly, and I glanced at him, realising that he was waking up. Soft light filtered in through the windows, shining on his face. I quickly placed my hand over his face, casting shadow onto his eyes so he wouldn’t be disturbed. It didn’t work. Zane’s lashes fluttered and he glanced up at my hand, then turned his head to look at me.

He smiled, tightening his hold on my waist even more, pulling me laut against himself. “Good morning, love,” he whispered, nuzzling his face into my hair.

“Good morning, Zane. Did you sleep well?”

“Mhm,” he hummed in response. “How can I not? I get to sleep beside you.”

I smiled, tracing my fingers down the side of his face. He leaned into the touch, letting out a deep sigh. “This is everything I want. from life. You, a bed, and peace.”

I chuckled, leaning in to touch my face to his. I was addicted to the tingles that shot through my skin everytime we touched. I was addicted to his scent and his presence. “What about food? Can you do without food?” I teased.

Zane smirked at me, mischief glinting in his eye. “My snack is right in front of me.”

I grinned, as heat rose to my cheeks. “Idiot.”

“Only yours.”

I released a breath, taking one last moment to stare at him, before I attempted to push off his arm from my waist.

I failed because he only tightened his hold, frowning. “What?”

“It’s almost twelve, Zane. I have to go downstairs.”

“You mean we have to go downstairs. Remember? I took permission.”

I forced a laugh. “Just because my parents allowed you to stay the night, doesn’t mean they want you here in the morning.”

Zane pouted. “Are you telling me to leave, Lia?”

“Yes.”

“How rude,” he grumbled, pulling me onto himself and hugging me close.

“Hey,” I laughed. “I’m asking you to leave, not hold me closer.”

“I don’t care. I’m staying.”

“Zane,” I chuckled. “Please. I’ve to spend some time with my parents too. They’re my family too.”

“And me?”

“You’re my whole world, and I spent the whole night with you.”

“We were sleeping. It’s not like we were spending time with each other.”

“So sleeping together isn’t spending time?”

“Of course not,” he scoffed. “You know nothing about love.”

“Zane,” I said again, “please. You can come back at night. We won’t sleep. Maybe we can…” I trailed off, running a finger down his neck.

Zane shivered, making me smile victoriously.

He stared at me, blue eyes turning black. “You wanna do it tonight? For real? Or you’re just saying that to get me to leave?”

“The latter.”

He scowled, rolling his eyes.
