“Yeah, I can visit William too,” said Grace.
The next day, when Jasper heard that her mother was going to Deer City, she immediately shouted, “I want to go too. I want to go with you, Mommy. I want to see William!”
“You’re not on holiday now. If you go to Deer City, you won’t be able to go to kindergarten. Your brother will have to go to kindergarten alone.” Grace deliberately made it sound that her eldest son would be pitiful. “Do you want your brother to go to kindergarten alone every day, Jasper?”
Mick Reed wanted to say that it did not matter if he went to kindergarten alone. He went to kindergarten alone before his mother and sister returned anyway.
However, his father pulled him aside before he could speak. He heard his father say, “Alright, I’ll take you two to Deer City to see Mommy and William during the weekends.”
Jasper thought it over and concluded it was a good idea. She nodded and agreed. However, she still asked Grace to pass a message to William that she would be there in a few days. She also asked Grace to give him the little frog she had learned to fold with colored paper.
It was a small paper frog, but Jasper solemnly handed it to her mother. Grace looked at the back of the
frog. Jasper even wrote the words ‘William’ on it with a colorful pen.
Grace smiled, put the paper frog away, and said to her daughter, “Alright, I’ll pass it to William. You can teach William how to fold this little frog when you and your brother are in Deer City, okay?”
“Okay!” Jasper answered loudly.
Grace packed her luggage and went to Deer City with Martin Weiss and Kyla at noon.
Kyla was not in the right shape to take an airplane, so they drove there.
Martin Weiss asked the driver to drive an MPV car so that Kyla could rest in the car.
Kyla was worried as nothing she had read so far about Amber Mitchell’s stay in the mental hospital was good.
“Alright, stop worrying. We’ll be there in three hours. We’ll find out what’s going on when we get there and see Amber Mitchell,” said Grace.
Amber Mitchell’s identity surprised her. She was the eldest heiress of the Mitchell family of Deer City but was sentenced to 14 years in prison for misappropriating company funds. After her release, she returned to the Mitchell family to fight for power. However, when she was about to succeed, her family sent her to a mental hospital, claiming she was mentally ill. She had stayed there for 14 years.
According to the confidential information they obtained from the hospital, Amber Mitchell’s family had visited her over the years. They did not just ignore her after admitting her to the mental hospital.
No one in Deer City doubted that the eldest heiress of the Mitchell family was mentally ill.
However, the timing of Amber Mitchell’s admission to the mental hospital could not have been too coincidental, given the timeline!
After all, the shareholders’ meeting was just a few days later, and given Amber Mitchell’s prospects at the time, she stood a good chance of winning! However, she suddenly became a mental patient.
Meanwhile, her stepsister married her fiancé right after that.
The biggest winner seemed to be the stepsister who shared a different mother from Amber Mitchell-
Louise Mitchell.
When searching for information, Grace also looked into Louise Mitchell.
Compared to Amber Mitchell’s tragic experience, Louise Mitchell led a happy life. She was married to George Gregory, who was supposed to be her brother-in-law, with whom she had a son now.
The car drove to Deer City and arrived at the mental hospital where Amber Mitchell was.
However, a hospital staff member stopped them when they asked to visit Amber Mitchell.
They said, “I’m sorry, but we don’t allow visitors other than family members.”
“I’ve been her friend for more than ten years. Can’t I visit her?” Kyla said quickly.
“That’s the hospital policy.” They insisted.
Grace frowned slightly. The family would work out with the hospital on who got visitation rights. It was obvious that the family did not want outsiders to visit Amber Mitchell.
Just then, Martin Weiss took out his phone and dialed a number. “Yes, Director Wang, I’m currently in your hospital. My wife’s friend is in your hospital. They’ve been friends for more than ten years, and she wants to meet her. But she can’t visit her because she’s not family… Okay… Thank you, then…”
Moments later, the staff member answered a phone call and instantly changed her attitude toward the three of them. They said, “Though you can’t visit the patient, Director Wang has asked me to show you around the hospital. Please follow me.”
By ‘showing around’, it meant they would be taken to see Amber Mitchell, of course!
Kyla looked at Martin Weiss gratefully. “Thank you.”
“Whatever happens later, I hope you can control your emotions. And please remember that you’re pregnant,” said Martin Weiss.
“Okay, I’ll be mindful!” Kyla hastened to assure.
The three followed the staff member as they walked around the hospital ward. Grace and Martin Weiss were on Kyla’s left and right sides.
Amber Mitchell’s ward was a VIP ward, where all the patients. stayed in separate wards. Each ward door had a transparent glass window, which was convenient for doctors and nurses to check on the patients inside.
However, when the three of them approached Amber Mitchell’s ward, they suddenly heard the mocking laughter of a woman. “Amber Mitchell, you look so pitiful right now. The heiress of the Mitchell family, who was so popular in the past, looks like this now. Nobody in Deer City remembers you now. Not even the gossipy reporters bother to write about you.”
The voice… sounded hostile. Grace frowned and glanced at Kyla. The expression of the staff member who led them here changed as if they had suddenly recalled something. They hurriedly moved to stop the three of them.
However, Martin Weiss beat the staff member to it by blocking their way, while Kyla and Grace hurried toward Amber Mitchell’s ward.
“But I remember you. These are the dishes I specially instructed the cook to prepare. Sis, you gotta finish them!” The woman’s voice continued.
Then came the muffled groans of struggle and the sound of pain.
Kyla’s and Grace’s expressions changed abruptly as they looked through the small window on the ward’s door.
A woman in a white hospital gown was being held down by two other people dressed as hospital nurses. One of them even pressed the head of the woman in the hospital gown into the food in front of her, which could not be seen.
The woman’s body and hair were covered with food. She was in such a mess.
Not far away stood another woman with elaborate makeup and designer clothes. It was… Louise Mitchell, Amber Mitchell’s stepsister!
Kyla and Grace had gone through the information they found and knew what Louise Mitchell looked like.
If that was the case, the woman in the hospital gown who was being held down was without a doubt Amber Mitchell.
Kyla tried to push the door open to enter, but the door was locked from the inside.
“Open the door! What are you doing?! How could you do this to her?” Kyla shouted.
The people inside were shocked. Louise Mitchell turned her head and saw Kyla and Grace through the window on the door. She frowned and got the two nurses who were holding Amber Mitchell to take her aside. Then, she called Amber Mitchell’s attending doctor. “What’s wrong with your hospital? Why are people shouting outside the ward? I need you to get those people out of here! I don’t want any drama…”
However, Martin Weiss kicked down the ward door before she ended her phone call.
Kyla ran toward Amber Mitchell, and Grace hurried to follow. The two nurses tried to shield Amber Mitchell from these outsiders.
One of the nurses raised one hand to push Kyla, but Martin Weiss waved it away before she could touch Kyla.
“Who… Who are you? Who permitted you to barge into patients’ wards? Where’s security? Where are the hospital’s security guards?” Louise Mitchell shouted to the staff member who led Kyla and the rest here.
The staff member seemed to be in a dilemma. “Mrs. Gregory, they’re friends of the hospital’s director.
Well… I… I was just showing them around the hospital, and they happened to run into you.”
“I don’t care what they’re here for. Get them out of here immediately!” Louise Mitchell said, looking upset.
Kyla did not care what Louise Mitchell was saying. All her attention was on Amber Mitchell.
The beautiful Amber Mitchell had fallen into this state.
“Amber Mitchell, it’s me. It’s me! I’m Kyla. Do you remember me? Look at me and tell me what’s going on? How did you end up in here?” Kyla sobbed.
However, Amber Mitchell kept her head down.
From Kyla’s statement, Louise Mitchell figured out that these people knew Amber Mitchell, but Amber Mitchell’s lack of reaction was within her expectation.
“Have you had enough? She’s mentally ill, and no one is allowed to visit her except her family. I’ll call
the police if you insist on staying!” Louise Mitchell warned fiercely.
“Even if she’s a patient, you have no right to treat her like this. You’re treating her like an animal. She’s your sister!” Kyla glared at her while clenching her teeth.
Louise Mitchell smiled. “It’s exactly because she’s my sister that I hope she can get back to normal. It’s stimulation therapy. You can ask her doctor if you don’t believe me! If you don’t fuck off, I’ll call the police!”
She said as she made a gesture to pull out her phone.
Grace grabbed Kyla by the arm and said, “Kyla, let’s leave first.”
“But…”
“Don’t forget what you promised me when you came here!” Martin Weiss said as his face suddenly approached Kyla. He said in a voice audible only to each other, “It won’t help if you stay here any longer. If you want to help your friend, do as I say now!”
Kyla trembled, and Martin Weiss held her hand to bring her out of the ward. The ward door was closed again.
Louise Mitchell’s face was full of doubts. ‘Who are the three people just now? Anyone who Director Wang allows in can’t be an ordinary person.
‘Does Amber Mitchell even have such friends?’
“But so what if your friends have come for you?” Louise Mitchell suddenly smiled, walked up to Amber Mitchell, and stepped on her right hand, which was missing a finger.
Amber Mitchell instantly let out a muffled groan of pain but nothing else.
Louise Mitchell looked at her reaction with satisfaction and smiled even more complacently. “You’re a mental patient, and you’ll stay here for the rest of your life!”
Amber Mitchell only hung her head low as if she could not hear anything.
Kyla and the rest left the hospital. They got into the car outside.
Once they got in the car, Kyla took a deep breath and said, “I… I want to save Amber Mitchell. Her sister is abusing her. Grace, Martin, please help me save Amber Mitchell, okay?”
Grace hurriedly reassured Kyla by saying, “Since I accompanied you here, I’ll help you. But don’t let yourself get too emotional and risk a miscarriage.”
“Okay,” answered Kyla.
“Alright, you’ve seen Amber Mitchell and Louise Mitchell today. Now, we’ll figure out how to meet Amber Mitchell alone,” said Grace.
“Let me arrange it,” said Martin Weiss.
Kyla was delighted to hear that but then added, “Then… when can I see Amber Mitchell?”
“I’ll do it as soon as possible, but Deer City isn’t the Weiss family’s territory, after all. Some things may take a while,” said Martin Weiss.
When the three arrived at their hotel, Grace said to Kyla, “I have to go out for something later. You guys should rest carly.”
“Where are you going?” Kyla asked.
