Damon, Nadia and I have just arrived at the place to be in the garden. It is a massive open field with high tables surrounding the center, which serves as a dance floor. At the back end of the garden a podium is set up, where the DJ booth is also situated. On both sides next to the podium are a few seated tables with reserved signs on it. Those must be the royal tables. A small shiver runs down my spine uncontrollably. Small lightbulbs are strung around the trees everywhere, cozily lighting up the garden and making it look like a fairytale. 2 big bars are set up and waiters are walking around everywhere. I have never been to a party as big as this. Soon more and more people are starting to pour in, and I am starting to get frustrated with shaking so many hands and exchanging all the pleasantries. Most people are nice, but my social battery is draining fast. Luckily my father is beside me, which softens the dullness. It is about 9pm now and I still haven’t seen Zeke or Zane.

My father then introduces me to the royal Fae, and to the royal vampires. The Fae seem like nice people. Shy and reserved, but nice. The vampires however, I am unsure what to think of them. The vampire King didn’t exchange a word with me, and barely had the decency to even look at me. It’s clear the man doesn’t like me. But then again – who cares? I get the biggest shocker of the night when my father introduces me to the witch & warlock royals, and I see none other than Felix standing with their King and Queen, looking at me curiously with a wide grin. The King and Queen exchange words with me, before introducing their sons. Felix and his brother step forward to introduce themselves formally. “Princess” Felix takes a small bow and grabs my hand, kissing the top of it gently with a smug grin on his face. I clear my throat, followed by a small chuckle. “Prince Felix. Did you know?” I raise an eyebrow at him with a smile on my face. “I certainly didn’t. I never would have expected a princess, the future Queen, to wonder off on her own without guards”. “I guess I am not your average princess” I grin at him, and now it’s his turn to raise his eyebrow at me. We are interrupted when his brother pushes him aside. “Hi! I am Kevin, the most handsome warlock in the family”. I laugh upon seeing the annoyed look on Felix’ face. “Hi Kevin, I am Lola”. Kevin tops it off when he too grabs my hand, kissing the back, earning an annoyed glare from Felix. “No fighting over my daughter young warlocks, she has 2 mates in her life and that’s about enough” my father waves them off with a joke, but I know he is partly serious. He still likes to see me as a little girl, as he missed out on all those years.

Zeke and Zane still aren’t here when the DJ begins to play. The DJ is a dragon from our Kingdom as well. I made an agreement with him to have certain parts from certain songs at hand for me, so he can switch instantly when I mind link him to do so. My father has initiated me into the Kingdom. So, I can now link any dragon that is a part of our Kingdom, and they can link me too. I glance over to the royal tables, and I can tell Felix and his brother Kevin are staring at me intently. I raise an eyebrow at both of them, causing Kevin to look away embarrassed, but causing Felix to smirk and wink at me. I chuckle. The audacity of this guy. I have to say I like him though. Glancing over at the rest of the table, the chairs reserved for the Lycans remain empty. Damon’s friends join us and we are soon chatting, laughing and dancing to the music. My attention is drawn to another direction when the scent of freshly baked cookies enters my nose. I turn around to see Mr. steroids and his bimbo chatting with another Alpha dragon and his mate. Did this prick really have the audacity to attend a party in my name, and not even greet me? I get my answer when he looks straight at me and, with a devilish grin on his face, drops his hand to the bimbo’s *ss and squeezes it roughly. I can feel Justice hurting in my mind, and it pisses me the f*ck off. As if he can feel Justice’s agony, he grins even wider and his eyes switch to black. He moves his other hand to the bimbo’s face and kisses her passionately, all while looking at me from the corner of his eyes tauntingly.

Justice is roaring in my head and I can feel her anger and despair pulsating. ‘Do it. Reject him’ she grits out, finally having gained the understanding that she, we, are too good for this piece of sh*t. ‘I’ll show him who’s boss first’ I reply to her, before shutting the link and focusing my attention back to him. I can see Damon talking to me from the corner of my eye, but nothing is registering, all I see is the vermin before me. I link the DJ to switch back and forth between one of the small sections I had lined up. I was expecting to need this one. I snicker to myself and can’t help the devious smirk on my face when the DJ smoothly mixes in a small part of DMX – party up “You wack, you’re twisted, your girl’s a hoe” before smoothly mixing back to the song he was playing again. Steroid’s eyes turn darker upon hearing, and I switch my smirk back to a serious face before mind linking him. ‘You aren’t the brightest crayon in the box, are you? Do you think it’s wise to provoke your future Queen?’. I am not one for titles, at all. But if I can use it to piss someone like him off, I will gladly call myself Queen any time. All he does is growl back through the mind link, like the primal ape he is, while looking at me with murderous intent. Time to rip the band-aid off. ‘We, Lola Cavanaugh and Justice, heirs to the dragon throne reject you, Lucian Walker, as our mate’.

Zeke POV

My eyes instinctively fall on Lola when we arrive. Despite having decided we are going to give her what she wants, I can’t help but be drawn to her until the bond is broken. And perhaps even after, who knows. I notice she is fixating on something and, following her line of sight, I see the same dragon from at the club yesterday. He is glaring back at her and I can’t help the growl reverberating through my chest. Even when she won’t be our mate anymore, I will always try to protect her against harm. Not that she needs me to, but still. And this dragon is looking at her like he is going to murder her. Zane is on edge as well. ‘Who is that prick?’ he links me. ‘I don’t know, but he was arguing with her at the club yesterday as well’. Zane only growls in response, and I focus my attention back to Lola. Her smirk has morphed into a serious expression and I see her eyes glaze over. Is she mind linking him? What would she be saying? My attention is pulled back to the dragon when I hear some commotion from the people around him. He is hunched over, clutching his chest and panting hard. The sight of him is all too familiar, and I immediately piece together what just happened. ‘He was her dragon mate. She just rejected him’ I link Zane. But I can imagine he has pieced it together already as well. I look over to Lola who is still standing tall, her chin jutted out defiantly. If she is in any pain, she isn’t showing it. I sigh to myself, once again cursing myself for ruining what could have been. With the most perfect Queen we could have ever imagined. I genuinely hope she finds happiness again one day, with a man worthy of her. Someone like Nick.

The dragon has recomposed himself somewhat and is now standing up, looking at her with murderous intent. He is visibly struggling to keep his dragon under control, his hands are trying to morph into talons and his eyes are flickering profusely. If he shifts in an area as crowded as this, a lot of people will get hurt. But his dragon, or maybe him as well, doesn’t seem to care. His eyes stop flickering and settle on black, as he is about to shift into his dragon. “EVERYONE MOVE!” Lola bellows. Some people are attempting to flee, but many are either too late or rooted to the spot. Then, all of a sudden, the people surrounding the shifting dragon are blown across the field, away from him. Their landing isn’t exactly soft, but they will live. ‘Protect mate!’ Lex exclaims and I immediately shift to my Lycan form, dashing towards her, with Zane and Lance by our side. I am running as fast as my paws can carry, when I suddenly slam into what feels like a wall. F*ck this hurts, everything hurts. We stand back up, swaying and dazed, trying to get to Lola. But there is an invisible force, sort of a wall blocking us. I stare at the scene in front of me and although I have trouble seeing straight, there is a massive dragon standing in front of Lola. The dragon is bigger than hers and I think also bigger than Damon’s. Fear grips my heart and I try walking around the force to find my way in, but to no avail. I watch the scene in front of me in absolute horror.
