Filed To Story: Returning to Her Not-So-Poor Family
“She can afford to be, so once we get in there, you better be on your best behavior. Try to get on their good side. If we score this land, we’ll be rubbing elbows with them quite a lot.”
“Alright.” Olga watched Louisa walk away, thinking, How the hell did she get so lucky to marry a top dog?
Just then, a car pulled up nearby.
A stern–faced, impressive man got out, and Yolanda couldn’t take her eyes off him.
What a hunk!
He was nothing like the other two men she had met at Dawn Restaurant. This man was tall and handsome, radiating a strong aura.
She had met him at a design competition before. She knew he was the big shot of the Collins Group, the current top dog of Solterra.
Seeing him, Demetrius immediately went over and said, “Mr. Collins, long time no see. Are you here for the auction? I saw your parents had already gone in. I was wondering where you were. Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.”
Hans Collins just gave him a glance and looked away. Clearly, he didn’t remember Demetrius.
The secretary following Hans simply held out a hand to stop Demetrius from approaching further.
Olga felt a little awkward. No matter who they greeted today, they all seemed indifferent.
Huh, wait till they’re top at the of the heap. Let’s see if they dared to treat them like this.
Thinking of this, Olga noticed her daughter’s smitten look and couldn’t help but say, “Smitten, huh? That’s the kind of man you should aim for, not Zachary! You need to think big; reel him in like you did with Zachary.”
“Mom, don’t worry; I know what I’m doing.” Yolanda watched the man’s retreating figure and made up her mind. If she found someone better, she’d blow off Zachary in a heartbeat.
“Let’s not stand around here. Let’s go in.”
There was still half an hour before the auction officially started. Demetrius planned to mingle with the big corporations after they got in.
“I have to tell you this in advance; be as friendly as you can when you see Bella. Got it?”
“Whether Bella is willing to make peace with us or not doesn’t really matter if we manage to buy this land.”
“That’s short–sighted. Considering Bella’s resources and connections, we’re better off making a friend than an enemy!”
Hearing Demetrius say this, Olga nodded, “True that.”
Just as Demetrius was trying to walk through the entrance with his wife and daughter, with the invitation in hand, one of the security guards stopped him on the spot.
“Sorry, sir, which corporation do you represent?”
Demetrius was taken aback. “Didn’t you see my text just now? Haven’t you heard of the Melton group?”
“The Melton group?” The security guard seemed genuinely clueless. Today’s auction was filled with top–notch corporations, and he had never heard of smaller ones like the Melton Group.
He hurriedly asked his colleague, “Is the Melton group also participating in the auction today?”
“I’m not sure. It doesn’t ring a bell. Let me check.”
“Sorry, could you please wait a moment?”
Demetrius and his family seemed a tad unhappy being held up at the gate. “This is the text you guys sent me to remind me to come over today; how could this be an issue? Can’t a text prove my identity?”
Olga couldn’t help but blurt out, “He’s the richest man in Tranquil City!”
“Tranquil City?” The security guard in charge was visibly dumbfounded. He hadn’t heard of such a place.
Another security guard also looked lost. “Tranquil City? Where’s that?”
A third guard couldn’t help but whisper, “Summerfield is divided into four districts, and the least developed one is the North District. The North District has four counties, and the least developed one is Seraphim Haven. Within Seraphim Haven, there are four towns, and the least developed one is Tranquil City. That’s the Tranquil City he’s talking about.”
The other two guards were left speechless. They finally realized that he was the richest man from a small town in Summerfield, not some big shot they mistook him for.
Seeing the bewildered and speechless expressions on the faces of the guards, Demetrius and Olga felt extremely awkward.
Even Yolanda felt the embarrassment. Apparently, these guards were pretty clueless, not even knowing about Tranquil City!
Even though Tranquil City was just a small town in Summerfield, it shouldn’t be overlooked!
“How much longer do we need to wait?” Olga didn’t expect a hiccup, even before the auction started. Would there be any surprises today?
The guard who had gone to verify the information swiftly returned, “Sorry for the wait; please come in.”
“Please pay more attention in the future. Remember, we’re the Melton Group. We’re going to win this auction today! We’ll be seeing each other a lot more!”
The four guards didn’t know where their confidence came from. The presence of corporations like the McMillan Corporation alone was sufficient to put pressure on them, let alone other big corporations.
However, they didn’t say much and made way for Olga and her group.
“Yoli, did you see that? The way those four guards were falling over themselves to accommodate Kenneth and Louisa. We need to elevate our status and become part of high society, so we won’t have to go through such embarrassments!”
“Mmm, I’ll remember that.” Yolanda also wanted to uplift her status. She made up her mind to attract a wealthier man than Zachary today.
Demetrius looked at the seat number in the text message and kept searching, only to find their seats were in the last row.
“Isn’t this too far?” Olga was a bit worried: “Can the auctioneer see us when we bid?”
“We’ll have to make do.” Demetrius didn’t expect the organizers to put them in such a remote spot, especially close to the restroom. Although dissatisfied, they couldn’t do much about it. At least they could attend the auction.
“At least we have seats. Look at all the companies outside that want to participate but don’t qualify.” Demetrius tried to comfort himself.
When they entered, they noticed many representatives from small companies waiting outside, hoping to meet important figures after the auction.
“Those we’ve already met were easy–peasy, those outside have got to wait a bit!”
With these words from Demetrius, Yolanda perked up, feeling there was some sense in what he said.
But they were so far from the front that Olga was mulling over how to get chummy with those loaded ladies up there.
Suddenly, Yolanda piped up, “Mom, Dad, check it out, it’s Mirabella!”
Mirabella and a guy were strolling by, hand in hand.
Due to the fleeting moment, Demetrius and Olga only caught a glimpse of their backs.
Yolanda clapped a hand over her mouth, gabbing after a while, “It’s that guy from last time!‘
“Which one?” Olga was clueless about her ramblings.
“Last time at Dawn Restaurant, I saw sis with this guy!”
But last time, Yolanda just speculated that this dude was loaded; she didn’t expect him to be so rich that he could attend this auction!
This meant he was at least a big shot in these top conglomerates. So young and already a high–flier.
Yolanda was green with envy and couldn’t figure out how Mirabella managed to snag such a wealthy, young, and handsome catch.
“At Dawn Restaurant? I didn’t see. ” Olga didn’t know who she meant, but looking at the guy’s back, she thought, “He seems young; I wonder which company he’s from. I didn’t expect that little girl to have a boyfriend so soon!”
“She’s the founder of QY; it’s only normal that she finds a boyfriend of the same social standing, right? Besides, it’s not weird for her to date at this age; even Yoli is engaged!”
Hearing Demetrius say this, Olga reminded her, “Yoli, remember this: if you find someone better, ditch Zachary ASAP, preferably before your engagement party.”
