Hillary was in so much pain that she was covered in cold sweat all over. However, the woman didn’t show any sign of stopping!!
Wom
By the time the prisoners’ recreation time ended, Hillary had been taught a good lesson. Upon returning to her cell with the rest of the prisoners, she immediately pulled her clothes to the side. Her body was covered in bruises and some places were starting to swell, forming an unbearable sight!
Tears rolled down her cheeks at once. “Hillary, you have a visitor.” She stood up abruptly. When she went out, she saw a pathetic-looking Jill standing in the room.
The agonized woman hugged Jill at once. “Mom, you’re finally here! They are going to bully me to death! Quick, tell Karl the people he sent to protect me are bullying me every day! Make Karl take revenge for me and kill them!”
Her eyes were filled with hatred.
Jill’s eyes reddened when she heard her. “It’s been tough on you, Hillary! But there’s nothing we can do at the moment!”
Hillary looked up at once. It was then that she noticed that Jill’s cheek was also red and swollen on one side. Stunned, she asked, “What happened to you?” Jill hugged her and wept bitterly. When the visitation session ended, Hillary hugged her and shouted, “Mom! Mom, you must save me! I will die if you don’t save me! I really will die!”
As per the public’s wishes, Hillary had been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The moment she thought of how she would be in jail for the rest of her life, she felt acute despair swallow her up…
Jill clenched her fists tightly as she watched her crying daughter being led away.
No, she mustn’t allow her daughter’s life to be ruined just like that!!
At the Smiths.
Tanya was playing with Mia and the others.
Nora was seated leisurely on the sofa. Joel and Justin were sitting on the other side.
Cherry, who was sitting cross-legged, was playing games on her cell phone.
Pete was watching Mia and Cherry. For once, he actually wasn’t doing Mathematical Olympiad drills. The family formed a happy and harmonious sight, but in truth, they were actually waiting for the results of Lily’s final DNA test.
If the busy Lily were to see what they currently looked like, she would probably call them “evil capitalists”!
Suddenly, the butler entered the room. He looked a little embarrassed as he said, “Sir, the old Mr. Smith is here.”
The guest was Samuel Smith, Ian’s third uncle who lived in the Smiths’ ancestral home. He was also the one who had spoken up for Yvonne previously.
Joel raised his brows.
Samuel had helped Yvonne to make a scene at the hospital the other time, but it was to no avail. After that, he had left while Yvonne was arrested and thrown into jail.
What was he here for this time? Joel’s brows drew together, but it wasn’t like he could really drive his elders out of the house, so he said dispassionately, “Let him in.”
The butler nodded. A short while later, Samuel came in with a woman who looked about forty to fifty years old.
Joel glanced at the two of them. Then, he lowered his gaze and said, “Granduncle Samuel, Grandaunt Sue.”
Sue had married into the family after Samuel’s first wife passed away. There was a shrewd and capable look in her eyes.
Her eyes, which had a lot of life in them, glanced at Joel. Then, she smiled and said, “Joel, we haven’t seen each other for so long! I heard that there was some trouble at home, so Samuel and I immediately hurried over to visit you!”
Samuel let out a cold laugh.
Sue immediately prodded his arm, stopping Samuel from speaking.
She looked at the two women in the living room.
Then, she went forward, held Nora’s hand enthusiastically, and said, “You must be Nora, right? You look just like a Smith! You’re so pretty! I heard you’re engaged to Mr. Hunt?” She looked at Justin cheerfully.
Justin, who was unaware of all the inner workings of the family, nodded politely at her.
Before Nora could say anything, Sue took off the bangle on her hand and stuffed it into Nora’s hand. “Even though you’ve returned to the Smiths, Grandaunt Sue has nothing much she can give you. Here, you can have some fun with this bangle for now!” Nora: “??”
She narrowed her eyes slightly and pushed the bangle back to her. “I can’t take this. It’s too expensive a gift.”
“Aw,” Sue said, “What’s so valuable about this? I have a distant relative in this line of business who’s very knowledgeable about antiques!”
“Nora, I know there was a bit of a misunderstanding between you and Samuel previously, but we are all Smiths here. We’re all still connected to one another no matter what happens. You won’t hold it against him, right?” Nora: “…”
Sue was simply too eloquent!!
She coughed. Just as she was about to say something, Sue stuffed the bangle back into her hand and turned to Tanya.
The look in her eyes wasn’t that humble anymore.
She said with a smile, “You must be Mia’s mom, the one caught up in all that drama recently, right?”
The children had already been taken upstairs to play when the two of them were coming in.
Justin didn’t want to reveal too much about his children.
Seeing Sue looking at her, Tanya nodded. “Yes.”
“Tanya, right? I met you before when you were a child!” Sue was very enthusiastic. She held her hand and said, “I was visiting the Joneses at that time. When you were pouring us water, you accidentally broke the glasses, so your mom punished you by making you kneel on the floor. You were only five then. You were so small and looked so pitiful kneeling there!” Her words were rather discomfiting.
However, what she said next was even worse. “Who would have thought that you would become Cinderella and give birth to Joel’s child one day? A child with a high status elevates their mother’s status, indeed!”
Tanya: “???”
“???י :Nora
Everyone in the room could hear the disdain hidden in Sue’s words.
What did she mean by saying that Tanya’s status had risen because she had given birth to Joel’s child?!
She was clearly refusing to acknowledge Tanya’s status!
Who would bring up someone else’s humiliating childhood events in front of other people?
The look in Nora’s eyes turned cold, and she threw the bangle onto the coffee table, producing a crisp clang.

I really like Nora character
On boy, this Great aunt Sue is something… I wonder her motive
There is so much to enjoy and appreciate it this book. Again I’m going to bring up it’s schizophrenic nature it’s really difficult to understand things in the story because of the characters actions and words. I also am sorry that I keep bringing it up. It’s just when I’m able to get used to what to look for that is going to be obviously Chinese in nature I’ve been able to transfer things in my mind into American culture. But when something new pops out at me it’s like a ice cold cloth across my face.
I’m interested in knowing what your views of Americans are. Your characters are supposed to be American, yet the longer I read the less it seems some of the writing might not be a mistake in writing your characters in the States and misunderstanding our culture. There have been places in which it seems like you are trying to put my culture down and some how think yours is superior.
I’m sorry you are too stupid to understand why Capitalism is a good thing. The crazy 20 year olds in my country have been talking like that too. Not understanding that it is the real way to equality. Equality and equity are not the same thing. The 20 something brats here are lazy, they don’t want to work, they want someone to give them everything. They are too stupid to understand their quality of life will disappear if they get their way and change us into Socialists.
They are not old enough to understand what has happened under Communism and how Socialism is just a gateway into Communism. They don’t understand what they get will not be free. They don’t understand that they won’t get to choose their jobs, or what types of schools they will be allowed to let their kids go to. They don’t understand they won’t be able to know their own minds, have their own ideas, that even the tiniest of FREEDOM will be stripped away from them.
Your characters are treating Capitalism as if it’s the worst possible thing to happen. Capitalism is what has allowed spontaneous creativity and invention to occur. It’s the backbone and framework of the country. It’s what has allowed a bunch of ragtag farmers create a nation that was fair for all people. It allows a person to be as ambitious as they want and just getting by if that’s what they want. It’s a system of reward. You do good if you work hard, and you don’t work hard for anyone but yourself. Your Company does better, your State does better, and your Country does better when you work to make your life better. Everyone benefits this way.
Yes there are a lot of whiners out there that complain about what their neighbors have. But usually it’s the same people who don’t put the energy in. Before our manufacturing went to your country we had systems of protection in place where Companies couldn’t screw over the workers, but that the workers couldn’t screw over the Companies. There are laws about how long people work, break times, lunch hours, what extra compensation they get if they work overtime. It doesn’t allow children to work until a certain age and it’s only partial time, and it can’t be during school hours. Children have to go to school.
Because of this work ethic people were happy, they could afford to buy their dream homes, cars, and all kinds of stuff. The stuff people bought was made with the best quality of materials. There were requirements for the worker to have the right skills and training needed, there were inspectors to ensure that the quality was met. Before 1980 the system was working great.
It’s one of the reasons that people have wanted to move here. Before the year 2000 a person could come here with almost nothing and become successful. Some people who were already here got jealous, they didn’t think it was fair that refugees were becoming successful and they weren’t. The bottom line is it was very fair. It all came to how hard a person wanted to work and make their dreams come true.
Capitalism has made Democracy easier to have and maintain. The way our country is set up is the average regular people are who are in charge. Our forefathers set it up that the elected officials all the way up to the President are employees of the masses. We the people are their boss. In the past 40 years the politicians have gotten a little uppity. They are trying to convince the younger generations that we are supposed to treat them as our betters. They have forgotten how the system works and that is why they are trying to change our system.
This part one could consider political, your assessment is too far off. No American would say any of those things. It’s why the older of the woke people started seeing the flaws and errors in this move to the putting socialism into our culture. They have changed sides this time around. No body here wants the government to be in charge. We don’t want to be robots with no brains or ideas. None of us would compromise all the rights and freedoms for anything.
I don’t know what you think about it, I don’t care what you think about it. But if you are going to write about the Swiss in Switzerland, know the people and the culture. If you are writing about the English, know about the people and their culture, if you are writing about the Turkish or the Saudi Arabians know about the people and their culture. Same thing goes with Americans.
You chose the most difficult of all the countries and people in the world. We are 248 years of mixing world cultures together and making a new culture. Americans are hard to define because we are such a blended together incredible soup because of all the seasons and spices blended into one. We are the world combined into one place.
Know your audience and know your topic. You have written an amazing book. I praised you for not rushing the romance. But you haven’t come to the end yet. This book is way too long. It would have done you good to not go more than 250 / 300 pages, separate some of the stories/adventures into different books.
I still think you are a heck of a writer, little things to get wrong is easy to leave your reader going “huh?”. It’s the huge differences that are too big for it to work in the story. It would have been a better read if your story was set in Hong Kong 2004. Everything would have made perfect sense.
So this goes out to Jennie joy.
So listening to your post. It sounds like you can’t make up your mind whether you like the book or you don’t like the book in your comment you you kind of sound like the people in the book in the live streams coming down on Tanya and nora, for that matter.
Well, I do agree with the whole part of the 20 something year old snow days. It’s tend to think that everything should be handed to him. And I don’t think that they’re giving their kids enough discipline. I know you didn’t say that. I’ll throw that in there. I just I like the book. Believe me, I’m not one much of a reader, but I have been on the side of my seat every since I started reading this book. Yes, it is little winky. Yes, I do believe that all the other twists and turns and plots and all that could have been used to make more books in the fusure. But I am in it until the end. And if it doesn’t end so be it, I love it. Keep up the good writing.
