In the CEO’s office of Kaleidoscope Entertainment, Eric relaxed on his sofa and turned on the TV. It was already six o’clock, and celebrities were slowly making their way to the award ceremony.

Eric watched as models tried to outshine each other, but none of them grabbed his attention until Emma appeared at the head of the red carpet.

She was wearing a long red dress, and her arm was elegantly hooked around the arm of a man in his 40s. Eric recognized him as the most infamous sleaze bag of the entertainment industry.

He paused the frame, his eyes narrowed sharply as he studied the picture. Then he called Luke over. “Help me find information on this man. Do we need to warn her about him, Mr. Roberts?”

“No need,” Eric replied. “She knows what she’s doing, and I have faith in her. I’m just afraid someone will attack her from behind.”

Eric pressed the remote to resume the broadcast. As he turned his head back to the screen, the black gem-like mole on his left ear shone in the light. He had spotted the brooch on Emma’s chest earlier, and he knew she didn’t normally like wearing accessories. So Eric had a feeling his wife was well prepared.

All around the star-studded event, camera lights were flashing. Emma endured her feelings of rejection and disgust as she linked arms with Mark and stepped out onto the red carpet. This was the first time she had appeared in front of the public since her scandal had gotten out. She didn’t seem to be affected by the rumors at all, though. She was calm and composed as usual, and she had a smile on her face as she walked.

“How can she be so calm when she’s arm-in-arm with a well-known sleaze bag?” the members of the press wondered. “Is she planning on using him to advance her career? First, it was Star Age, and then George Benedict. Weren’t they enough for her?”

The host introduced Emma and Mark in an exaggerated and excited tone before the two of them headed over to the signature wall to speak to the media.

“Miss Miller, have you taken notice of the recent news? Would you like to defend yourself against the assumptions that have been made about you? Your colleague Amber Lee announced this afternoon that she’ll be moving to Creative Century. What do you think of this? An insider has revealed that you’ve got a big industry executive backing you up. How do you respond?”

The reporter’s questions were like endless bombs being thrown at her. She didn’t even have a chance to breathe between them. But she didn’t show a trace of panic. She listened quietly to all of them before giving them a smile.

“I’m a public figure,” she said. “When I’m in public, I need to be conscious of what I say. I can’t predict how my words will be interpreted by my fans. A simple word can change their views completely. That’s why I prefer to be cautious. I’ve seen the discussions online, and I believe everyone has the right to voice their opinions. As for the scandal itself, I’ll let everyone make their own judgment on it, and I’m confident the news won’t affect my fans. If people like me, it must be because there’s something unique about me that inspires them.”

The reporters hadn’t expected Emma to address them so directly, especially in such an honest and concise way.

People had accused her of being dishonest just because she was intelligent, but she had countered these claims by explaining the responsibility as a public figure. To the insult she was receiving online, she’d responded with her belief that her detractors had the right to voice their opinions, showing that she respected the truth.

And as for her fans, she had developed a trusting relationship with them from the start.

She even pointed out that her fans weren’t wavering from her. They liked her because they saw something unique in her.

The reporters didn’t know how to continue, and they looked at each other, wondering if they should keep making things difficult for Emma.

She had already exposed her heart to them, and they felt it would be unreasonable to continue insulting her. So, the reporters fell silent and instead took the opportunity to snap a few more photos.

Emma had passed the obstacle easily. Mark looked impressed. “This proves she’s far more intelligent than most people in this industry, especially for her age,” he thought. Then he turned to her and said, “Miss Miller, you’re amazing.”

As they entered the venue, he tried to wrap his arm around her, but she swiftly stepped aside to avoid him. “You’re being too kind, Mr. Whitaker,” she said tensely. “Has Mr. Davis said anything to you by chance?” he asked, trying to test her.

She could roughly guess what was going on, but she didn’t know exactly what the two men had agreed on. She shook her head and remained on guard. “He hasn’t told me anything,” she said.

He wanted to move closer to her, but at that moment, one of the hosts approached them and said, “Miss Miller, there’s been a change to your seating arrangements. Please follow me.” Mark looked confused. “Emma’s supposed to sit by me,” he thought. “Why is her seat changed? Who’s trying to go against my wishes?”

Emma nodded and followed the host to her new seat. She had a feeling this was something Eric had done for her in secret.

The award recipients were seated in the front row, while Emma was seated in the last row. Amber had entered the venue early, and her eyes had been glued to Emma and Mark as they walked in.

“Mark’s making a move,” she thought, sneering. But she became confused when she saw them being seated separately. “Mark walked the red carpet with her. Why isn’t he sitting next to her?” she thought. “What a shame.”

Emma looked up and saw Amber watching her. Though there were many rows of people between them, it felt like they were sitting face to face. Tonight, Emma was going to present the Top 10 Model Awards. In other words, Amber would be receiving her trophy from her. But she might not be able to hold on to the award for long.

Amber had asked Mark to ensure that Emma would be her award presenter. She wanted to take the trophy right from Emma’s hands.

She wanted to provoke her and make her suffer. She also wanted Emma to see that after stealing her beloved fiancé Nathan from her, she was throwing him away like trash.

“You’ve given up so much for Global,” Amber thought, “but in the end, you’ve only been a stepping stone for me. Your only purpose in life is to help others get ahead.”

The two women smiled to themselves, each of them deep in their own thoughts. The true victor would soon be revealed up on stage. The ceremony had officially started. The first awards being presented weren’t very important; the main ones were saved for later. The Top 10 Model Awards were to be presented in the middle of the ceremony.

“Please welcome our guests,” the host announced. “The Cutting Edge model, Emma Miller, and the artist, Mark Whitaker, to the stage to present the next award.”
