She worked until it was nearly one in the morning. “I’ll sleep after the finishing touches,” Maya said to her friend. She then kept her things and got ready to leave.
…
Julian hurried over to the set, and Cameron led him to the room Kevin had prepared for him. He stopped at the entrance and looked at the room next door for a while, then he looked away and went inside. Cameron silently closed the door and backed off without making a sound.
Dizzy from all the work, all the negative emotions Maya felt were washed away, leaving nothing but exhaustion behind. Even though she had come out of Luna’s room, she was still reading through the file in her hands as she walked ahead, unbeknownst that she had deviated from her original path.
She held the doorknob and twisted it, then she went into the room. She then closed the door and placed the file on the cabinet beside the door, then she noticed a familiar scent wafting in the air. Her heart skipped a beat, and she realized something was wrong. When she raised her head and met Julian’s eyes, she froze.
Julian was taking off his shirt, and his lean body was revealed. When he turned around, Maya saw the V-lines on his abs that swam deep into his crotch. He looked seductive.
Maya blinked and looked away. She snapped, “Why are you in my room?”
Julian slowly put his shirt down. “Who said this is your room?”
Maya looked around and realized the room’s decor differed from her own, and she inhaled sharply. She spent the whole day calming Luna down whenever she got mad at Julian. Now that she was face to face with him, she couldn’t hold her annoyance back anymore. “You didn’t even lock your room when you’re changing?”
Julian unbuckled his belt and said, “Why do I have to lock my room? Don’t tell me you got the wrong room. That’s the oldest trick in the book.”
Maya did get the wrong room, but she couldn’t say that. She couldn’t believe this last room belonged to Julian. Why did he reserve a room here? To see Selena? It’s only been a few days, and the first thing he does is to meet up with her.
Maya was disgusted, but she couldn’t have a falling out with him just yet. Still, this feeling annoyed her. Just imagining the guy she slept with for years sleeping with Selena now almost made her puke.
“Please, I won’t even try anything with you. I don’t give second chances to cheaters.” She grabbed her file and was about to go out.
Just then, the doors of the elevator at the end of the corridor opened, and sounds of discussion filled the air.
“I heard the investor’s staying somewhere on this floor. If they somehow want us, we might be able to get a lot of screen time.”
“Not just screen time. They’re also the judges. If we get friendly with them, Alana might not be the one who wins.”
“Yeah. The fact that Selena’s a team with her proves that this game is rigged.”
The sounds were getting closer, and Maya quickly went back into the room and closed the door. Every time I run into him, trouble shows up. If they see me coming out of his room, Alana’s reputation will be ruined. Everyone’s going to think that the game is rigged no matter if I win based on my skills alone.
It would be disastrous for Maya and L.Moon. After she made up her mind to leave Julian, she started making money so she and her grandmother could live a better life. She would not let any scandal ruin her career.
Julian noticed her coming back in, and he smirked. “Got the wrong room again?”
Maya turned around and locked the door behind her. She couldn’t have Selena barging in all of a sudden. She had made up her mind to stay out of her and Julian’s relationship. Maya leaned on the door, looking calm. “Just get on with whatever you were doing. I’ll leave once the guys out there are gone. I don’t want the production team coming up with any stupid rumors.”
Julian was reminded of the news Kevin told him, where Selena was spreading the news about her relationship with him. He gazed at Maya intently. “Why? Am I that much of an embarrassment to you?”
Maya pursed her lips and gazed at Julian as well. She smirked. “Don’t say that about yourself. The whole team’s praising you to the high heavens, and tons of women are waiting to be your bride. You’re not an embarrassment; you’re the prize everyone wants.”
He invested in the show and helped my grandma. There’s no need to cross him. Still, she was annoyed by Selena’s smug attitude, and she thought a sarcastic remark was more than warranted, given that she was still his wife.
Julian took off his pants right in front of her. “Are you one of those women, then?”
Hell no. I am not that kind of woman. Maya thought he would at least have some shame, but he didn’t. He was being as brazen as he could. Coolly, she said, “Whatever you say.”
Julian was prejudiced against her. If she made any mistake talking to him, he would use it to label her as a whore who would sleep with him for money. It was just like how she was called a gold digger when she only wanted to happily marry him.
Maya turned around and ignored him. She held up the file and put her ear against the door to listen to what was going on outside. There were a couple of designers still chatting since she could hear snippets of their conversation. That was annoying. It’s late. Why haven’t they gone back to their rooms? Even if they want to chat, they can do it in their rooms, can’t they?
While she was focused on the sounds outside, Julian suddenly hugged her.
Shocked, Maya almost shouted, but she quickly covered her mouth. Her design drafts fell to the ground, and her heart was racing.
Julian huddled closer and whispered almost coldly, “Don’t you get tired of playing hard to get?”
Playing hard to get? Maya felt fury flare right up to her head. She pushed against the door and tried to shove Julian away. “Once I am done with Grandma’s case – “
Her sentence was cut off by a kiss. Just then, Selena asked from outside the room, “Are you asleep, Julian?”
Maya’s heart squeezed, but Julian gave her a cryptic look and let her go. He was sure that she wouldn’t make a sound.
Maya’s mind was in turmoil, but she was bothered by that look he gave her. She crouched down and quickly picked up the drafts, then she shoved Julian away and tiptoed into the bathroom.
Once the door to the bathroom was closed, Julian wore his robe.
The phone on the bed rang, and Julian picked it up after he saw that it was from Selena. Without knowing it, he gently said, “What is it?”
“I heard you’ve come to the set. Are you in your room?” Selena purred.
Julian went to the door and opened it, still holding his phone. Selena put on a beautiful smile for him. “It’s late. I hope I’m not interrupting. It’s been a while since I saw you.”
Maya leaned on the wall, listening to Selena speak, and a smirk curled her lips. I’m the wife, and yet I’m looking like the mistress here. This is ironic. That Julian is a b*stard.
Selena looked at Julian affectionately. “You came all the way here even though it’s already this late? You could’ve come tomorrow. I wouldn’t have found out about it if I hadn’t called Cameron.”
Selena thought he didn’t know anyone else on the set and was only here to back her up. He prepared Ocean’s Heart and this manor, and now he came here himself. Of course, Selena was thinking he did it for her.
All Julian could think about was Maya so he didn’t listen to what Selena was saying, but he grunted.
Delighted, Selena went red with embarrassment and love, but she held herself back. “You’re so nice to me. You’re the best, Julian. I know you did a lot for me on this show, and I’ll do my best.”
Hearing Julian give Selena an answer made Maya grab her drafts tightly, her nails almost digging into her skin. Now she knew what that look meant. He suspected that she and Luna were working together, so he wanted Selena to find out she was in the same room with him and have Selena assert dominance.
Maya felt something welling up within her, and she opened her mouth to exhale. A long sigh came out, and she calmed down.
“It’s late, so get some rest. The flight took a lot out of me,” said Julian, his voice tired.
Maya harrumphed. He has enough money to boost his honeycakes to fame. Even if Selena doesn’t put in an ounce of effort, she can still make it to stardom.
Julian walked Selena out of the room, but Selena noticed the corner of a paper sticking out of the cabinet beside the door. She adjusted her steps and took a glance from an angle and realized it was a draft. She was then reminded of the rumor she heard. They said the investor would be hiding among them, and if they wanted more screen time, they could find a chance to get closer to the investor.
Worried that the designers would go for Julian after they found out who he was, she hurried over once Cameron told her that Julian had arrived. Did someone get here before I did?
She looked at the draft, a hint of darkness flashing in her eyes. She then stopped in her tracks and turned to smile at Julian. “Your room’s decor looks different from ours.”
Julian gave her a sidelong glance, but Selena ignored him and quickly scanned the room. It might be different, but the room was still made up of a bed chamber and a bathroom. It was simple enough that Selena could see everything at once glance. The bed was connected to the ground, so there was no way anyone could hide underneath.
She then noticed that the bathroom door was closed. Sheepishly, she said, “My bathroom isn’t working. Can I use yours, Julian?”
Most of the time, Julian wouldn’t refuse her requests, especially for trivial things like using the bathroom.
Julian’s gaze darkened, and he coolly said, “No. You can ask the other models or designers. I need to take a shower and sleep. Just go back to your room.”
“But everyone’s asleep.” Selena put on a look of distress.
That was how she always got Julian to relent, and it always worked.
Maya was nervous and speechless. She wants to use the bathroom all of a sudden? Why? Did she notice me? Maya held her drafts tighter, her heart racing. She was wondering how she should explain things if Selena found her.
