“If that female is the Silver Wolf, Cerberus,” Damon said under his breath, “we will have a fight of our lives.”
Cerberus’ head lifted. ‘Do you fear it?’
“No,” Damon answered honestly. “I welcome it. If she is the Silver Wolf, she is our mate. And I will fight to the death for her.”
Cerberus snarled softly in approval. ‘The Alpha King will not allow harm to come to her. If we move against Crimson Fang, he will see it as a direct challenge!
“We are not moving against Crimson Fang,” Damon replied. “We are gathering information.”
Damon kept pacing inside his office, the heavy wooden floors groaning beneath the force of his restless strides. The light flickered as if reacting to the storm brewing inside him. He could not settle himself. He could not settle his wolf.
The air in the room felt too tight. Too suffocating.
They kept thinking about the female wolf John told them about.
A wolf who fought fifteen rogues in her human form.
A wolf who killed five seasoned rogue warriors without even shifting.
That was not ordinary.
That was not something Damon could ignore.
Could it be that she is the Silver Wolf? Damon thought, his jaw tightening.
Inside their shared mind, Cerberus prowled restlessly, his massive paws scraping against the edges of Damon’s consciousness.
‘What are the odds, Cerberus growled, his deep voice echoing, ‘that we receive the signal howl that the Silver Wolf has been found… in the same pack as the female John and his group fought?’
Damon exhaled sharply. The timing was too precise. Too aligned:
The contact howl had been clear-long, piercing, undeniable. One of their subordinates had released that contact howl to let his leaders know that the Silver Wolf has been found. For years, the prophecy had been nothing but whispers. Stories. Hope.
Now suddenly-
A female warrior.
Unmatched strength.
Fighting like a beast while in human skin.
And located in Crimson Fang Pack.
The same pack under the protection of the Alpha King.
‘We need to know, Damon, Cerberus pressed, pacing inside him. ‘We need information. We cannot just sit here and wait. Especially when John said the female is mated to Alpha King Talon.’
At the mention of Talon’s name, a low growl vibrated through Damon’s chest.
Alpha King Talon Ravenwood.
Powerful.
Respected.
Feared.
If the female truly belonged to him…
‘If she is the Silver Wolf, Cerberus continued, his tone dark and calculating, ‘we need to convince her we are the better wolf.’
Damon stopped pacing.
The better wolf.
The better future.
The oracle’s words resurfaced in his mind as if they had been carved into his bones.
The Silver Wolf will rise during an age of division. She will unite all wolves under one banner, and her mate will stand beside her as king of the united packs.
For years, Damon had chased power for survival. He had built the Rogue Kingdom from scraps and hatred. From wolves cast aside. From wolves branded as dangerous, unstable, unworthy. He had watched rogues die simply because they had no pack to claim them. That was what he wanted to change.
He did not crave unity for glory.
He craved it for legitimacy.
For acceptance.
If he were mated to the Silver Wolf… his rogues would not be called monsters.
They would not be hunted.
They would not be treated as less.
They would become a recognized force.
A functioning pack.
Respected.
Included.
That was all he wanted for them.
Damon clenched his fists.
‘I will not let Talon take that future from us, Cerberus growled.
Damon’s eyes darkened.
But another thought lingered. John had said the female was mated to Talon. If that bond was already sealed… was it too late? Or was it only a claim?
‘We do not know if she is marked, Cerberus said, sensing his doubt. ‘And even if she is… bonds can be broken.’
Damon did not respond to that.
Breaking a true mate bond was not simple. It was not clean. It was not without blood.
Still, he needed answers before war became inevitable.
Without another word, Damon turned and walked out of his office. The guards at the entrance immediately straightened and bowed their heads as he passed.
The night air hit his face, cool and sharp. The moon hung high above the rogue territory, silver light spilling over the rugged landscape. As he stepped out of the pack house, he saw Beta Conall walking toward him with steady strides.
“My king,” Conall greeted, stopping a respectful distance away. “Is there somewhere you need to be?”
Damon did not hesitate. “I am going to Crimson Fang Pack.”
Conall’s expression shifted instantly. “My king… that is enemy territory.”
“I cannot stay here and wait,” Damon replied, his voice calm but unyielding. “It is only a couple of hours’ run. The distance will clear my head. Cerberus and I are too wound up.”
Cerberus snarled in agreement inside him.
Conall studied him carefully. As Damon’s beta, he knew when his king’s mind was set.
“Do you think that is wise?” Conall pressed anyway. “If the Alpha King is there-“
“As my beta, you know I can hide my scent,” Damon interrupted. “Their guards will never detect me. I will not cross into their inner territory. I only need to observe.”
Conall’s jaw tightened. He did not like it, but he also understood Damon better than anyone.
“I think you’ve already decided, my king,” Conall said finally. “And as your beta… I know when to keep my mouth shut.”
A faint smirk touched Damon’s lips. “You always have.”
There was no ceremony. No further discussion.
Damon stepped back, closed his eyes, and let Cerberus rise. The shift was fluid and powerful. Bones cracked, muscles expanded, fur erupted across skin in a surge of dark energy. In seconds, the massive gray wolf stood where the Rogue King had been.
Cerberus was enormous – larger than any normal wolf. Three faint shadows seemed to ripple behind him like echoes of the beast’s name.
Pack members along the courtyard immediately lowered their heads in respect. Some stepped aside quickly, clearing a path, but Cerberus did not acknowledge them. His golden eyes were fixed toward the horizon.
Toward Crimson Fang territory.
Toward the female who fought like a goddess of war.
“Our Silver Wolf.” Cerberus murmured possessively.
“We do not know that yet, Damon cautioned.
“But we will.”
With that, Cerberus lunged forward. The ground trembled slightly under his powerful strides as he tore through rogue territory and into the forest beyond. Trees blurred past him. Wind whipped through his thick fur. The run was brutal and fast – a release of tension and hunger.
Every step carried purpose.
Every breath carried anticipation.
As they neared the invisible borders of Crimson Fang Pack, Cerberus slowed.
The scent markers were strong.
The Warriors had reinforced them recently.
Cerberus shifted back into Damon. Even if they could hide their scent, it would be hard for the Crimson Fang warriors to miss a massive wolf walking around their territory.
Damon took a deep breath. He could still smell the faint scent of his rogues. He followed it until he reached a small cabin. It looked like no one was inside. He opened the door, and he was hit by the most delicious scent he could imagine.
The scent was faint, but unmistakable.
A female’s scent.
Wild.
Sharp.
Delicious.
Mouthwatering.
Yet carrying strength beneath the softness.
Cerberus stopped completely, inhaling deeply, and his entire body stiffened. ‘That’s her.’
Damon felt it too.
A strange pull- not like a mate bond, but something that tugged at instinct.
Interest.
Recognition.
Possibility.
‘She is powerful, Cerberus’s claws dug slightly into the earth, he whispered in awe. ‘And she belongs to Talon.’
Damon’s eyes hardened. “For now.”
“They would not act recklessly.
They would not challenge the Alpha King blindly.
But Damon would see her with his own eyes.
He would judge for himself.
If she truly was the Silver Wolf… then fate had just placed them on a collision course with the most powerful alpha alive. Damon had never been afraid of war, especially not when it meant securing a future for his rogues.
Cerberus lifted his head, silent and unseen at the edge of enemy territory, golden eyes burning with hunger and ambition.
All his attention and focus were on the female from Crimson Fang Pack.
And he would not look away.
“Who are you? And why are you inside my house?”
The sharp, steady voice cut through the cabin like a blade.
Damon stiffened. He had been so focused on the scent lingering in the air-the intoxicating, powerful scent of the female wolf his rogues had described that he had failed to notice someone entering.
That had never happened before.
He was always aware and alert.
And with Cerberus inside him, his instincts were sharper than most.
Yet somehow… she had walked in without him sensing her approach.
“I asked you again,” the woman said, her tone colder now, “who are you? And why are you inside my house?”
Her house?
Damon slowly turned around.
And the world shifted.
She stood a few feet away, framed by the soft light filtering through the cabin window. Silver hair falling loosely over her shoulders. Eyes forest green, sharp, intélligent-dangerous. There was strength in the way she held herself. No fear. No trembling. Only control.
And her scent… Wild. Crisp. Silver beneath the warmth. It wrapped around him like smoke and lightning at the same time.
Cerberus went utterly still inside him.
It’s her.
