“Where do you think you’re going?” Vladimir asked, stopping me at the door.
I had to fight back chuckling at the man, knowing that his act of being ‘kind’ seemed to go the second we were away from my wife. Him trying to impress her into thinking that he wanted nothing but good from us amazed me, but then again, I shouldn’t be expecting any less from the Pakhan.
“I don’t think that you would be questioning me whenever I go out, would you, Vladimir?” I asked, glaring at the man who let out a low and warning growl. I returned the growl, and he raised an eyebrow at me, knowing that I was annoyed.
“In case you are forgetting, Alpha, this is my territory, and the last thing I recommend is for you to be crossing your limits with me. You know, the two of us are well aware of the consequences that would follow if you do so. And I doubt that your wife would want to see you without a head.” He said, and I laughed before taking a step toward him. The last thing that I was going to allow him to do was use my wife against me.
The man want blind, he knew very well that Scarlett was my weakness, and knowing him, the f*ucker was going to use that to his advantage. But that wasn’t something that I wanted to give him easily. If anything, he was a person that I was going to maintain my way. For now, I had a lot more to deal with.
“This being your territory doesn’t mean that I am a prisoner.” I said, crossing my arms over my c*hest. “And I doubt that you won’t know where I am. Last I checked, it was you who offered to help, and you have men surrounding every corner of the city. I am sure that they would report to you when needed.”
“You are growing balls, and that is not something that I like.” Vladimir said, glaring at me as I took a step back from him, knowing that he was being a d*ick right now. The man had to keep his cool demeanor, especially since there were kids roaming around. I looked at them and smiled, knowing that they were angels with no sins. Them being born was not a sin, it was something that I always believed in.
“They were always there, Alpha.” I said, watching as two of them rushed toward the door, carrying lunch bags and their school bags. I smiled at their sights and both Dean and I seemed to calm down, choosing to respect the presence of the children in front of us. “You just failed to see them. Or maybe you did see them, but you were always afraid of admitting it.”
“You are saying that I am going to admit you….”
“You are failing to admit anyone that you see as…”
“Get the f*uck of the house and tend to whatever things that you have to do. The kids are going to start asking questions and that is not something that I want to deal with.” He said, and I chuckled before shaking my head and walking out of the house. I closed the door, knowing that the Alpha was going to send his men after me. If anything, he wasn’t going to risk me exploring the area.
But the last thing that I wanted was to explore anything. I had my pack members who were here, and I didn’t know how they were or where they were. I just knew that I had to find and check on them; however, for that to happen, I also knew that I needed to keep Natalia at the pack house.
After what happened with Carter, the last thing that I needed was to deal with such a situation. My beauty was still insecure about being with me as a mate, and that was something that I was hating. I knew for fact that she wanted to hide her pain, but as her mate, I wasn’t blind and I could see it. Therefore, I was determined to prove it to her that she wasn’t the one mistaken.
If anything, the mistakes, all of them, came from me. She was the one suffering the consequences, and that was something that I was hating about myself and my relationship with her. I wanted our relationship to be pure and real, but instead, I knew that it was filled with so many things that would break anyone who thought of them, and that was something that I hated.
I got inside the cab, knowing that Vladimir had his men following me. The cab itself could be one of his men to begin with. I came to learn not to trust anyone, especially not a Pakhan like himself and the best part about it was that he knew that I didn’t trust him.
He didn’t care, as long as it benefitted him, neither one of us cared about anything. “Where do you want us to go, Sir?” He asked, breaking my train of thoughts an I sighed. The thing was, I didn’t even know where they could be hiding, nor did I know how I was going to find them. It was something that scared me, especially when I was stuck between fire and ice.
On one side, I needed to protect my mate and daughter from all harm. But on the other, I knew that my pack was important. The thing was, it sickened me inside as I processed Carter’s words. The pack thought that I gave up on them, and that was something that I hated, especially when it was nowhere near being real.
It just pained me that despite me wanting to fight for her, even my mother was part of this, I just couldn’t explain or understand why. “I want to have coffee at the mall.” I said, handing him the location. “Can you please take me there?”
