Removing his glasses, Hugh’s eyes reflected seriousness. “What happened between you and Jean?”
Blake smiled lightly and spoke euphemistically, “Jean and I had an unexpected romance. It’s inconvenient for me to divulge the details.”
Observing Hugh’s skeptical gaze, Blake briefly explained his past.
He had met Jean by chance and they had fallen in love. However, he had to leave abruptly due to an urgent mission from the organization, making it difficult for him to contact Jean again.
It wasn’t a complete lie. Blake had indeed faced a desperate situation within the underworld group. Even if he found Jean, he might not have been able to do anything.
Blake was not a rigid person. If the Crawford family discovered the truth, they would misunderstand and reject him. He wasn’t foolish enough to complicate matters further.
Even if he revealed the truth, it wouldn’t change the past.
Half an hour later, Blake left the Crawford family.
“Lilly went to the MacNeil family the other day?” Blake inquired.
He wondered why Lilly had expressed her reluctance to meet her father.
The subordinate replied, “Yes, but the MacNeil family prevented Little Miss from entering.”
A trace of sarcasm flashed in Blake’s eyes as he indifferently stated, “They will regret it.”
Blake suddenly remembered the Hatcher family, who had previously harmed Lilly.
Leaning back in his car seat, Blake’s tone turned chilling. “Go desecrate Stephen’s grave and scatter his ashes!”
The subordinate panicked and stammered, “Uh… It might be better not to do that. Your identity…”
Blake scoffed. “My identity has nothing to do with it. I am doing this as the head of the MacNeil family. What does it have to do with the organization? Besides, as long as you don’t tell anyone, nobody will know that I desecrated Stephen’s grave.”
The subordinate was speechless.
Blake closed his eyes to rest, then added, “Oh, by the way, aren’t there still two elders in the Hatcher family?”
The subordinate hastily intervened. “Mr. MacNeil, it’s best not to harm the elders.”
Blake sneered. “But they abused my daughter. They are destined to have a miserable life.”
He didn’t care if they were elders. They had cruelly mistreated his daughter, who was just a child.
The subordinate felt helpless. Blake was capable, but sometimes he could be ruthless and evil. The organization had tasked the subordinate with monitoring Blake, but he had failed.
Just then, the phone rang. The subordinate answered the call and informed Blake, “Mr. MacNeil, you need to attend the meeting today.”
Blake snorted lightly. “I don’t want to.” He wanted to find his daughter.
“You have to go!” the subordinate emphasized. “That person wants to see you.”
The most influential person in Dudroinia would be present. If Blake didn’t attend the meeting, he would face adverse consequences.
Blake remained silent.
…
Meanwhile, as Anthony accompanied Lilly to find Rebecca, they discovered that Rebecca had gone out with her family.
“Should we go back?” Anthony asked Lilly.
Pablo chimed in, “Lilly, why don’t you predict it?”
Lilly leaned against the car window and looked outside. She replied to Anthony, “Wait, Uncle Anthony, let me predict first.”
After saying that, she solemnly pinched her fingers.
Anthony instructed the driver to park the car on the roadside outside the community. He smiled as he looked at Lilly.
“You’re amazing. Don’t you need to turn into a tortoise?”
Lilly looked regretful. “Oh, I forgot to bring Tortoise with me today!”
Anthony smiled and shook his head. He only showed his gentle side in front of Lilly. When he turned on his laptop for an online meeting, he immediately became cold and serious again.
Lilly didn’t have to wait long. Shortly after Anthony’s impromptu meeting, she spotted a familiar figure walking back to the community with a sullen expression. Rebecca appeared more fatigued and hunched over.
“She returned so quickly,” Pablo remarked.
Lilly leaned out of the car and waved. “Aunty Rebecca!”
Rebecca was momentarily taken aback, but upon closer inspection, she recognized the little girl she had seen at the amusement park the day before.
“It’s you!” Rebecca hurried over, forcing a smile. “What brings you here?”
Lilly replied, “I came to find you!”
Rebecca felt curious. She had no knowledge of Lilly and wondered what the little girl wanted from her.
Seeing Lilly and Pablo staring at him, the timid spirit on Rebecca’s shoulder tried to make himself less noticeable and remained vigilant.
The timid spirit had heard about a skilled ghost catcher in the area from other spirits. He hoped that Lilly and Pablo were not practitioners.
Anthony discovered a nearby coffee shop and requested a private room.
He was determined to fulfill Lilly’s desires, and he never questioned her, regardless of whether it made sense or not.
Anthony took a seat on the side, but suddenly felt lightheaded. He discreetly took out a bottle of medicine and swallowed a pill.
Lilly furrowed her brow. What’s wrong with Uncle Anthony? He tried to hide it, but I still noticed.
Pablo explained, “Your Uncle Anthony isn’t in good health. Lilly, let’s handle the matter at hand first. We can discuss it further when we return.”
Lilly had no choice but to greet Rebecca, “Hello, Auntie! My name is Lilly.”
Rebecca found it strange. The adult was taking medicine while the child chatted with her. She inquired, “Hello, Lilly. What do you
want from me?”
Lilly became serious. “Auntie, I’m here to assist you in eliminating…”
Pablo quickly covered her mouth. “Don’t mention catching ghosts! Just say you’ve come to rid her of bad luck!”
Lilly took a deep breath and continued, “I’m here to help you get rid of your bad luck!”
Rebecca was speechless. Are they frauds? But this little girl looks so young!
She also glanced at Anthony. Even he doesn’t seem like a liar.
Rebecca replied, “Uh, it’s not important. I’m fine…”
Lilly asked, “Auntie Rebecca, have you been feeling tired lately, unable to do what you want?”
Rebecca responded, “That’s correct…” It was normal. People in cities often experienced such situations.
Lilly inquired further, “Have you been waking up suddenly from the cold at night? Do your eyes feel hazy, your head buzzing, and have trouble with bowel movements? Your complexion is dull, your dark circles are worse, and you have a poor appetite. You feel a heavy weight on your back, as if carrying a ghost. Am I right?”
Rebecca felt shocked upon hearing this. She wondered how Lilly knew about her private matters.
Is she a liar?
Rebecca hesitated, then answered, “Yes, it’s already April, and the room temperature is normal at night, but I always wake up feeling cold. I even changed the quilt, but it didn’t make a difference.”
She even adjusted the room temperature. Her husband, Harry Dixon, thought she was crazy. It was so hot, yet she insisted on using a quilt and heating the room. So, he suggested she sleep in the study.
