“Lilly, can you bring your tortoise and PARROT after class? Can I pet your PARROT later?”
Pablo chuckled. The first-grader couldn’t even spell “parrot” correctly.
Lilly searched her bag for a pencil and started writing a reply on her desk. “Okay. I like drumsticks too. Let’s eat drumsticks later.”
Pablo overheard what Lilly said, but she was only scribbling and drawing two drumsticks on the paper.
He found it amusing and watched as Lilly folded the piece of paper and handed it to the person behind her. Cheryl sat up straight and raised her hand to say, “Teacher, Theo and Lilly are passing notes in class.”
She knew the teacher was strict. The teacher detested students talking or passing notes in class, so she expected Lilly to be scolded. Cheryl couldn’t hide her excitement.
The teacher was interrupted. She looked at
Lilly and the boy behind her. The teacher, a strict middle-aged woman wearing glasses, reached out and said, “Give it to me.”
Theo’s face turned pale. He handed the piece of paper to the teacher. She opened it and quickly glanced at the content.
She looked at Lilly and asked, “Lilly, who told you to bring your pets to school?”
The teacher had a peculiar personality. Ever since she was caught accepting gifts, she had become strict with the rules. She didn’t appreciate the board’s favoritism towards the Crawford family. That’s why she wouldn’t show leniency towards Lilly, even though the board had asked everyone to take care of her.
Her classes consistently achieved the best results, which allowed her to be arrogant.
“Bring your belongings and stand outside!” the teacher ordered Lilly.
Lilly had never been in trouble before, but she felt like she had done something wrong. She realized it was inappropriate to pass notes in class.
“Teacher, I…”
Before she could finish, the teacher smacked her ruler on the table. She said coldly, “I don’t care which family you come from or how wealthy you are. You must follow my rules in my class!”
Lilly remained silent. She only wanted to apologize. When she looked at the teacher’s face, she remembered Pablo telling her that her face looked “mean.”
Lilly no longer attempted to apologize and walked out of the classroom with her school bag, tortoise, and parrot.
Theo didn’t dare to argue and walked out to accept his punishment as well.
Cheryl was overjoyed to see Lilly being punished. She smiled happily, unaware that the malicious spirit on her head was laughing cunningly. The spirit opened its mouth and bit her neck…
The spirit of vanity continued to feed off Cheryl’s vanity. It grew bloated, like a giant mosquito that had just filled itself with blood.
Cheryl suddenly felt a chill on her neck and became slightly dizzy. Dark circles appeared under her eyes.
The teacher stood at the podium and began her lecture, “Remember, no matter who your parents are or how wealthy they may be, you must always follow my rules here!”
Then, she looked at Josh and sneered, “Josh, is she your sister? I heard that she caused a divorce between your uncle and aunt shortly after she started living in your house.” The teacher’s tone was sarcastic. She believed herself to be straightforward and upright.
She disliked Josh because he excelled in science but struggled with language arts. Now that he had brought his sister, who seemed to have special privileges in the academy, she felt it was only right to teach Lilly a lesson. She continued arrogantly, “Someone should
teach a wealthy child like your sister some manners. You shouldn’t learn from her.”
The teacher believed it was her duty to warn Josh as his teacher. She was taken aback when Josh stood up and slammed his book on the table.
In a cold voice, he said, “You have no right to scold my sister. As a teacher, your role is to educate, not gossip about others. You are the worst teacher I’ve ever had. I suggest you look up Nobelium, Boron, Radium, Iodine, and Nitrogen on the periodic table of elements. They are the elements that make up people like you.”
He packed his bags and added, “Furthermore, my uncle and aunt’s divorce was caused by my aunt, not my sister! My aunt is currently in prison. Would you like to be her cellmate?”
The teacher was stunned. She hadn’t expected Josh to talk back to her. As she tried to gather her thoughts, she also attempted to understand what Josh had said about the periodic table of elements.
Josh walked past the teacher and said, “Regarding the elements, their symbols are

Then, he walked out of the classroom. The rest of the students admired and applauded him.
The girls in the class thought he was very cool.
Cheryl observed how the other girls admired Josh and realized he wasn’t so bad after all.
The teacher was on the verge of losing her temper. She shouted, “Never set foot in my classroom again! I won’t tolerate rude students like you!”
Outside in the corridor, Lilly held her tortoise above her head while Polly stood on the tortoise’s shell. Lilly let out a sigh, and Polly sighed in response.
Pablo was bored, so he wandered around the school.
Theo felt dejected, but his spirits lifted when he saw Lilly.
Josh exited the classroom and spotted Lilly standing obediently against the wall.
He said, “Let’s go.”
“Where to?” asked Lilly.
Josh replied, “Weren’t you looking for hamburgers just now? Let’s go and eat.”
Finding hamburgers in school was difficult, but Josh knew of a place where he could get food that couldn’t be ordered as long as he had money.
Lilly’s eyes lit up. She glanced inside the classroom and saw how unwell Cheryl appeared. After a moment’s thought, she said, “It’s fine to leave for a while.” After all, Cheryl wasn’t her friend. Eating always took priority.
Lilly grabbed her school bag and placed the tortoise and Polly inside. “Let’s go,” she said.
Theo looked at the teacher inside the classroom, then turned to look at Lilly.
He envied Lilly but didn’t dare to follow her.
Josh took Lilly around the academy. Lilly asked, “Josh, where are we going?”
Josh replied, “To the canteen.”
Animaux Private Academy had strict security measures. Students couldn’t leave the school without their parents picking them up. Josh wondered if he should call his father to pick them up, but he needed a phone, which wasn’t allowed in school. That meant he had to ask his class teacher if he wanted to make a call.
Josh glanced at Lilly and decided to feed her first. He took Lilly to the canteen and headed towards “Food Street.”
The canteen had a mini supermarket section and a section called “Food Street.” The food in the academy was excellent but also expensive.
The shops in Food Street weren’t typical street food stalls. They were small shops with floor-to-ceiling windows and sofas.
“Boss, give me two hamburgers and two orders of fries.”
Lilly added, “And some shrimp. The tortoise needs to eat too.”
Josh was speechless, but he still placed an order for a plate of live shrimp.
The shop owner exclaimed, “What? It’s too early. Our ingredients aren’t…”
Josh flashed his meal card and said, “I’ll pay double.”
The owner agreed, saying, “Sure! Give me 15 minutes!”
Lilly looked at Josh with admiration. “Josh, you’re amazing!”
For some reason, Josh felt proud. “You’re so demanding,” he said proudly.
Soon, the food was served. Lilly took the tortoise out of her bag and fed it a shrimp. Then, she fed Polly some apple slices. Polly held the apple slices in its beak and walked alongside the tortoise before starting to eat.
Lilly reached out and grabbed the hamburger. She said, “Now it’s my turn to eat.”
Josh frowned and asked her to wait.
Lilly looked up and saw Josh handing her a pair of disposable gloves. The gloves provided at “Food Street” were designed for children, so Lilly could easily put them on.
“Thank you, Josh!” Lilly said, drooling at the smell of the hamburger.
