“No need, Sir. I’ll finish Miss Bella’s portion. Too bad. She doesn’t want it. She only wants the stir-fried broccoli and shrimp.”
“It’s not hot anymore, right? Should I ask them to heat up your part?”
Irene shook her head quickly. “This is enough.”
“Daddy, can I have banana split for dessert later? Do they have it?”
“They should. Let me call one of the waiters to make sure Bella’s order is available.” Since a while ago, Bella’s smile had disappeared. Maybe because Sebastian’s attention was suddenly divided. He himself was confused by Boonie’s arrival. He would resolve it soon after this lunch.
“Don’t you want any, Irene?”
“I noticed that you were busy paying attention to someone else, Sebastian,” Boonie protested. “I came all the way from Surabaya to meet you. What did I get?”
Sebastian turned and smiled very faintly. “I didn’t ask to meet you. When did we have an appointment?”
Boonie grumbled in frustration. She put her spoon down rather roughly.
“Weird Auntie already heard, right? Daddy said what? You didn’t get an invitation to dine here. If you really want to be with us, it’s not a problem. But don’t be rude to Irene. I’m glad I didn’t ask Daddy to make you apologize to Irene.” Bella folded her hands on her chest.
“Bella,” Irene spoke softly. “Finish your meal. The ice cream will come soon. We have to go back to the office early. I has a lot of work.”
Boonie grumbled in frustration. She really wanted to indulge this arrogant little girl. She would make sure the girl accepted her and helped her get Sebastian. Just watch. Taking a long sigh, she didn’t care if Sebastian was being cold to her. She just wanted to show that she still had a stake in Sebastian. “I’m sure you miss me, Honey.” The woman then kissed Sebastian’s cheek without permission, making the man startled. “Right, Honey?”
She made sure of one thing; Irene and the arrogant child saw her. She would make sure Sebastian couldn’t turn away from her either. Voila. Her hopes came true. Irene’s gaze focused on her, but then quickly shifted away. The child, too, looked at her with anger.
“Daddy is so bad at finding a girlfriend! He goes on a date with a Unicorn Worm like this?! Pathetic!!!” Bella quickly moved her chair. “Come on, Irene! Let’s go home!”
“Bella!” Irene was taken aback. “Wait a minute.”
Bella couldn’t be stopped once she was like this. She took bigger steps, leaving the restaurant area. Ignoring Sebastian’s calls.
“Bella, wait!” Irene quickly grabbed her bag. “Excuse me, Sir.”
“Wait for me, Irene.”
As for Boonie… she was left alone. She didn’t expect to be treated like this! Just wait!
Irene once again let out a deep breath. She glanced at Baby G, which indicated that it was already eight o’clock in the evening. But she couldn’t just leave like that. Ideally, she wanted to go home right away. Arrive safely, fall into a deep sleep, and resume activities the next day. It should be like that, right? So why was she standing in front of Bella’s door? What was she doing?
“Bella,” Irene called softly. She knocked on the brown door with the girl’s nameplate. “Can’t I come in?”
“No!”
Irene tried to be patient, but her hands couldn’t wait. She turned the doorknob a little forcefully. She was sure that Bella wouldn’t lock her room. She knocked out of courtesy because, in any case, the girl deserved privacy. She didn’t want to violate that. But Irene had tried three times to persuade her, and there was still no response. It wasn’t about that. Their return this time still held resentment in Bella’s heart.
Irene understood that very well.
During their time at the office, after the messy lunch, Bella had remained silent. She didn’t act out much, just sat quietly in the chair Irene had provided in her room. Irene had even ordered plenty of snacks and accompanied the girl while she ate her favorite fried chicken. Nothing was wrong. Really. Several times, Irene had left Bella to attend to her work and to accompany Sebastian in his meeting with the marketing team.
The project in Jakarta had to proceed, and the boss wanted progress in terms of reaching an agreement with the local residents. Despite being busy, Irene didn’t simply ignore Bella. She had a responsibility to make the girl feel comfortable. That’s why she was puzzled when they returned home, why was the girl angry? Was there something wrong?
Her eyes scanned the room as she entered Bella’s bedroom. The dolls were still in their places. Only the scattered bags and shoes, along with yesterday’s shopping paper bag, were in the corner of the closet. “What’s wrong with you?” Irene sat on the edge of the girl’s bed. She knew Bella was inside, curled up under the thick blanket because the room’s heater had been turned on.
“No.” Bella still didn’t want to uncover herself. “Just go home, Irene.”
“I need to know why you’re like this first.” Irene tried to touch Bella. Somehow, she felt partly responsible for the girl’s plummeting mood, although she didn’t know what she had done wrong. “You haven’t had dinner yet, right? Are you not hungry?”
“I’ll have Merry bring me food later.”
Irene sighed softly. “Irene wants to go home, but if you’re sulking like this, how can I do that?”
“You always leave anyway, right? Why are you suddenly concerned about me?”
Well… Irene just made another mistake.
“Yesterday, I asked you to stay, but you followed Daddy’s orders. You went home instead. But I had homework, you know?” “But I helped, right?”
Bella pouted and then uncovered herself a bit to be able to breathe. “I want Daddy to come home. Where did he go?” That was something Irene didn’t know.
The meeting ended quite late, and a lot was discussed. Then Sebastian just left without saying anything to Irene. He even asked the assistant to take Bella home, saying he had something to do. But Irene’s mind immediately put together what business could make Sebastian leave suddenly, except a woman?
Did… Sebastian meet Boonie again? As compensation for the messy lunch? Oh, thinking about that made Irene feel suffocated.
“I don’t know where your Daddy went,” Irene replied with a thin smile. She tidied Bella’s slightly messy hair. “I’m hungry. Let’s eat first. Before I go home, so that I can be at ease knowing you’ve eaten.”
Bella remained silent for a while. “I really hate it when Daddy meets strange women out there. Why doesn’t he just come home and accompany me? He said he’s tired from work, but instead of resting, he plays around. It’s annoying.” “Your Daddy is a Raptor.”
“Does Raptor behave like that, Irene?”
