Of course, Merry obediently followed suit. After Merry left, Sebastian deliberately propped his chin with his hand. His eyes intentionally stared intently at Irene, who seemed completely unfazed by his behavior.
“Someone is bothering Bella, Sir. It seems to be getting a bit serious. I think Bella’s way of venting her emotions is wrong.” “How wrong?”
“Bella wanted to destroy her friend’s book. I stopped her.”
“And it made her more hysterical?” Sebastian straightened his back. Conversations involving Bella, especially with Irene involved, always intrigued him. Since the first time Irene was introduced to his niece, whom he considered his eldest daughter, the two of them sometimes got along, sometimes fought, sometimes causing headaches for Sebastian.
But one thing was certain: Bella never argued against what Irene said.
“Well… like that. But I let her be for a while. She cried, screamed, even hit me, but I let her. And in the end, Bella calmed down on her own.”
Sebastian was taken aback. Convincing Bella wasn’t easy, let alone making her cry hysterically. Usually, this house would be chaotic, calling him just to calm Bella’s cries. “But I didn’t hear Bella cry since then?”
“Sir, your office is soundproof. I didn’t hear any disturbance, and besides, I closed Bella’s room door.”
“But she’s calmer now?”
“She is.” Irene smiled. “That’s why I want to accompany her, sir. Bella hasn’t fully explained why she went on a rampage earlier.” She prepared to return to her room. “I… am I not needed, sir?”
“Make dinner for me, Irene. Whatever you cook, I’ll eat.”
“Fried egg with soy sauce rice? Would you like that?”
Sebastian blinked. “If that’s what you can make, why not?”
That statement made Irene laugh. “My sister loves it when I make sunny-side-up eggs. I don’t know why. She says it tastes just right even with just margarine. The rice is still slightly warm too.” “Why do you talk like that and make me hungry?” Sebastian chuckled. “Try… making it for me.”
“Huh? Didn’t you just eat pizza? Is your stomach still empty?”
Sebastian laughed again. “Forgot, didn’t I? Men like me need a lot of energy.”
Irene rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Fine. But don’t complain if it’s not delicious. It’s a very simple menu.”
Sebastian simply gestured for Irene to go to the kitchen. Even though he had never eaten just fried eggs with soy sauce rice in his entire life, but because Irene was the one cooking for him, it didn’t matter.
Don’t ask why Sebastian is like this. He’s just following his heart. His heart says that enjoying time with Irene is worthwhile. Like now.
“Hey, Miss Irene!” Bella yelled with a pouty face. Her footsteps stomped in frustration as she had been waiting for the girl to come to her room. She was left all alone! She had finished two slices of pizza, eaten half of her spaghetti, and even finished her refreshing soda, but Irene still hadn’t shown up!
Oh my gosh! Bella was getting annoyed again. She said she would listen to her story. Where is she?
“What is Irene doing?” Sebastian, who greeted Bella this time, quickly pulled his niece away, causing her to shriek in surprise and anger. “Let me go, Daddy!” she exclaimed, not accepting it. “I’m angry with Irene!”
“What did she do wrong?” Irene looked at her with an innocent gaze-intentionally. Even though she had already prepared the frying pan and eggs she took from the storage box. Merry had informed her several times about the locations of various items in the kitchen. When she turned around, Bella, who was being playfully teased by Sebastian, was starting to forget her anger.
The girl laughed gleefully, while Sebastian continued tickling his niece relentlessly. Ignoring how loudly Bella pleaded for mercy and screamed amidst the cheerful laughter. That made Irene happy. Bella was a lonely girl. Just being accompanied like this, she was already happy.
Irene herself wasn’t a girl with many friends. But at least she was fortunate enough to have two brothers. Her childhood was too lonely. And when her father figure left, she had already learned what loneliness and solitude were. But what about Bella?
“Speed up the cooking, Irene. I’m hungry,” Sebastian said without needing to look at the girl who remained silent at the kitchen table. “I have an additional meeting at three. Don’t let me faint in the middle of the meeting.” Irene smiled faintly.
“I want some too, Irene. Whatever you cook, I want it. I’m hungry.”
“Okay. But if it’s not delicious, don’t blame Irene, okay?”
“Agreed!” they both responded in unison. Shortly after, Bella burst into laughter again. “Daddy!”
Actually, Irene needed her phone to double-check Sebastian’s schedule that she had saved in a special memo. Unfortunately, her phone suddenly turned terrible. She had no idea how many times the same caller ID name appeared there. “What are you doing?” Sebastian looked at his assistant with a puzzled frown. A few moments ago, he had asked Irene to go to the finance division to request some files. But why was she still sitting at her desk? Plus, her eyes were glued to the vibrating phone.
“Hey!” Irene quickly grabbed the phone, swiftly hanging it up. Then she smiled widely to cover up what had happened. “It’s nothing, sir.”
But Sebastian wasn’t going to believe that. “What’s going on?”
“I’ll go to the finance division right away, sir.” She immediately hurried away, slightly disturbed because her vibrating phone lightly touched her stomach. She chose to use the emergency stairs so she could answer the call that had been bothering her since earlier. It’s not that she didn’t want to use the elevator, but… never mind. The important thing was for her to get away from Sebastian for now.
Meanwhile, the man who had been left by Irene just blinked in confusion. “What’s wrong with her?” Shortly after, his phone rang. His mother’s name appeared on the screen. “Yes, Mom?”
“When do you have time for a blind date?”
“A blind date?” Sebastian pulled out one of the chairs, perplexed by his mother’s overly dramatic question. “What do you mean, Mom?” He loosened his tie slightly.
“Didn’t Irene tell you? Mama asked Irene to find a potential partner for you? Someone with red hair? A bit older to handle Bella? Mama even chose someone who loves children? Didn’t Irene tell you any of that? Or arrange your schedule?” Sebastian’s mouth hung open wide. His mother’s rambling was like a trumpet being blown repeatedly. “Mom!” he exclaimed once he understood her words. “Don’t be ridiculous. There’s no such thing in my life. I don’t want a blind date just to fulfill Bella’s strange wish. Besides, Bella hasn’t mentioned anything about ‘Mommy’ recently.”
On the other end, his mother sighed in annoyance. “Listen, Sebastian. A woman like that would be ideal for you as a wife. It’s not a problem if she’s much older than you. But, well, not as old as Mama. Don’t be crazy.”
“You’re the one starting this crazy conversation, Mom. Not me,” Sebastian retorted, displeased. “Today I had a long discussion with Irene about fund allocation, Mom. Don’t disturb my concentration.”
“I can’t help it,” Sunny quickly interjected. “Mama already asked about your schedule with Irene. In three days, you’re meeting one of them. Irene must have found someone who fits your criteria.”
