(Alexander)

“What are you doing, Alex?”

Scarlett asked, laughing as she shook her head at me.

I smirked and wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her closer while the two of us walked through the food court. I knew that she needed to eat something, but I was also making sure to make her enjoy choosing what she wanted. The woman has been through a lot, and it upset me that she now saw that us spending time together often ended up with problems. In truth, she was right, the two of us would often argue, and that was something that I wanted to change.

“I,” I said, twirling her around, pretending that we were dancing. People around us looked at the two of us with awe, admiring us as a loving couple, “am showing you off as my wife, my beauty, and my queen.”

Scarlett smiled at my words and I couldn’t help but smirk when she blushed. I leaned in to connect my l*ips with hers, and she blushed before leaning in to k*iss me. I k*issed her back with the same energy, loving her soft side. It was one that I couldn’t find myself getting over no matter how h*ard I thought I tried, not that I wanted to anyway. If anything, it was a side that I loved about her.

She wrapped her arms around my n*eck, and I hugged her tightly before we walked toward a restaurant. I frowned at the sight of the waiter, recognizing him almost immediately before he shook his head and looked away from me. It was Carter, one of my pack members.

“Carter?”

“Andreas, can you cover for me?” He said before turning to leave, not bothering to even wait for his colleague to answer. Scarlett frowned in confusion and the two of us followed the man to the back door where he walked out without saying a word.

“Carter…”

“Don’t you f*ucking dare approach me, Alexander.” He said, snapping at me. I frowned in confusion at his words before he raised his hands in mock surrender. He glared at Scarlett and I, and I couldn’t help but feel my c*hest burn as I saw his glare. It was one of anger and disappointment. One that I don’t remember ever seeing on his expression. “You gave up on us and ran like some coward…”

“Carter, that is not what happened, and you know that.” I said, stopping the man. “You know that mom had us leaving…”

“Your mother, the woman who had you ‘leaving’, is queen of Lunas by your father’s side.” He said, glaring daggers at me. I frowned in confusion and he laughed, his laugh mocking as he looked both Scarlett and I in the eye. “Did you think that he would kill his mate for your sake? Both of you?”

“Wait, wait, what the f*uck are you talking about, Carter?” I asked, trying to process what he was saying. Them arguing, and her defending us couldn’t be an act, right? They couldn’t have set us up the way that they have to simply get us out of the pack’s ground. The pack and family couldn’t have stooped that low, right?

Carter stayed quiet for a few seconds, trying to process what he was saying. His eyes met mine, and Scarlett stepped up, taking her hand in mine. She squeezed my hand, trying to get me out focus on what the man was saying. The last thing that we wanted to do right now is cause a riot.

“What do you mean by what you said, Carter? We were f*orced to flee because Alpha Mathew would have killed Alexander, me, and Anastasia.” Scarlett frowned. Carter glared at her, crossing his arms over his c*hest. His eyes met hers, and he raised an eyebrow. “You should be one to talk. The two of us know for fact…”

“I didn’t do anything to deserve happened at the wedding. The two of us have gone through hell, and…”

“Alexander wouldn’t have gone through what he did had you closed your f*ucking l*egs when the man was clearly in another relationship.” He said, snapping at my wife whose eyes widened in surprise. I went to comment, but she squeezed my hand gently, stopping me from saying anything before she nodded and took a step back.

“I’ll wait for you in the line. I am hungry.” She said, not bothering to look at Carter. The man’s eyes avoided looking at her, clearly regretting what he said, especially when he knew how close we were long before Delilah entered my life. If anything, it was Delilah who ruined our friendship.

She walked away from the two of us and I glared at the man before taking a step forward. Normally, I knew that Carter would have flinched, especially seeing the state and anger that I was in, but this time, he knew that I wasn’t his Alpha anymore, and that was something that he would take advantage of.

“You should consider yourself lucky that we are out in public.” I said, glaring at the man. He laughed and raised an amused eyebrow.

“You are not my Alpha to be threatening me the way that you are…”

“I don’t need to be your Alpha to take my wife’s rights.” I said, glaring at the man before taking a step toward him. He frowned at my words and I took a step closer to him before putting a hand on his shoulder, pushing him back. He frowned and I tapped his temple. “Keep this in your head from now on. I suggest that you start sleeping with one open from now on.”

“Is that a threat?”

“Yes.” I said, glaring at the man before turning to my wife who was standing in line, keeping her arm wrapped around herself. I looked at my beauty for a second before turning to look the man over my shoulder. “My wife is a red line, and you, Carter, have crossed it. But I will be the one to put you back behind it…”
