(Scarlett)
I kept my arm wrapped around my daughter, knowing that I needed to secure her.
The fact that Alexander and I were still on the run was something that worried me, especially considering the fact that I didn’t know the end of this. I didn’t want to think of the worst, but I knew better than to underestimate anything right now. Especially not after what happened at the airport earlier today.
Alexander kept his arm wrapped around me, making sure that I was okay, ensuring to comfort me when he needed it. I knew that he too was still shaken after everything. He was masking his expression better than I was, but I wasn’t stupid, I could tell that he was looking around, trying to see if we were being followed or if something was out of the ordinary, and that fact alone worried me more than I could possibly admit. “Scar, do you want to go eat something?” Alexander asked, trying to get me to speak. I have been quiet for the past hour, not knowing what to say, especially considering the fact that I was worried until we left this airport. I couldn’t even eat at the plane as I was busy holding Anastasia in my arms, fearing that something might happen. How I had slept, I didn’t know, but I was thankful for the little rest that I got, it was one that I knew I needed after the very long few weeks that both Alex and I were having.
“I’m fine, Alexander. I just want us to get out of here safely.” I said, trying to assure my husband, who I knew could sense my worry and fear. The fact that he killed one of his men scared me, but I knew that it had to be done. Had he not done it, then Mathew would have found us, and then we wouldn’t have been alive now. It just pained me to know that I considered a monster like himself a father to me. The man was my daughter’s granddad, and yet, I knew that he wouldn’t hesitate to kill all of us to simply show dominance and power. That alone frightened and worried me. “We are almost out. We just need to calm down and we need to think straight. I know that it’s going to be a bit difficult, but for now we’re going to need to stay very calm.” He said, trying to assure me despite me sensing his worry and fear in his voice. His heart raced against his ribcage, and I could hear his somewhat ragged breathing pattern, a manner that he had as an Alpha when he was trying to sense any danger around. So far, I couldn’t feel or see any, but he might have a different opinion in that.
“Let’s hope that we are out of here safely.” I said, looking down on my feet as I avoided his eyes. I didn’t want him to see my fear or pain, but I had nothing to do about it. The fact that my daughter was in this was something that I couldn’t appreciate or accept. I didn’t think that things would reach here, especially now with the man who I am once treated as my family, father, and friend. The man was there for me in more than one occasion, therefore, to think that he was doing it after he killed my family came as surreal to me. “We are going to get out of here safely. We’ve made it this far. I don’t think that things are going to get more complicated than they were.” Alexander said, guiding me towards the door. The two of us didn’t have any luggage with us. Not that we could afford carrying any anyway. We needed to run, and luggage would have slowed us down. Plus, we really didn’t have anything with us except for the baby clothes that we had of Anastasia. And even these were inside my purse. The diapers that we needed were bought at the airport, and thankfully, I had a few bottles of milk inside my bag in case she needed to be fed.
We reached the front door and I couldn’t help but tying relief as we found a black car waiting for us. The man was Alexander’s friend. He knew that we were coming. He was the one who invited us here. At least, that was what I understood from Alexander. I could be wrong, but seeing his smile when he saw Alex, I knew that I wasn’t wrong. “Vladimir.” Alexander said, smiling at the man, seeming more relaxed now that he saw him.
“It’s nice to see that you have managed making it. Come on, the car is waiting outside, nob*ody’s been following you and thankfully the airport has been secured. You need to rest assured.” Vladimir said, smiling, of the two of us. He looked at me and nodded, knowing and seeing my fear in my eyes. The fact that I could smell that he was a wolf was somewhat more assuring to me. I, at least, knew that we weren’t entering grounds of a human who might end up fearing us.
“It’s a p*leasure to finally meet you, Scarlett. I have heard a lot about you from Alexander, but I have never had the opportunity to see you.” He said politely, making me blush as he smiled.
“Thank you. It is a p*leasure to meet you too, Vladimir. You have no idea how much you have saved us, especially from the fuss that we are dealing with.” I said, looking down at my daughter who started stirring a bit in her sleep.
“I have heard glimpses here and there from Alexander, but you can rest assured no one’s going to hurt you any more. You are safe now.” He said, looking at me. I looked down at my daughter, smiling. When I saw that, she woke up looking at me. Her beautiful eyes met mine and she cooed, making me smile.
I k*issed her forehead before nodding at the man who guided us toward the car. One of his drivers opened the door for us, and both Alexander and I got inside the car after they shook hands.
Alexander wrapped his arm around me, pulling me into his c*hest, making me smile. I sighed in contentment, knowing that I was finally safe with my daughter. At least she was going to live in peace, without the worry and fear that someone would hurt her. That was something that somewhat assured me, at least until we went back to avenge what happened. “You and I both know that we have a lot to talk about, especially considering the fact that you have been quiet.” Alexander said, breaking my train of thoughts. I looked at him and frowned in confusion. However, he didn’t respond before he k*issed my temple.
“What do you mean?” I asked, looking at my husband as I frowned in confusion. I knew that the man could read me like an open book. It was something that was a common between the two of us. If anyone knew me, it was him, but this time I managed to mask my emotions very well. Therefore, I was kind of surprised when he said that he could read that something was wrong.
“You and I both know what I mean, Scarlett. However, for now I’m going to leave you to calm down. I know that you have had a long day and that everything has been very h*ard on us, but the two of us need to talk about this. For now, we are going to rest, yeah?” Alexander said, looking at me. His eyes were somewhat more judgmental than they always have been, and that made me frown in confusion, especially considering that I didn’t understand what he was referring to. Could he have known that I was angry with his father? That was not something that I let out, though. He wasn’t stupid. I lost everything because of the man. And the fact that the man and his wife told me that they were parents then eliminated me as an Omega. And then one day I just find out that this did not even belong to them. Now that was something that I can accept.
“Sure, whatever you say, Alexander. We can talk about this whenever you want us to.” I said, trying to play calm. I didn’t want to, suspecting that I wanted to go back for revenge. I knew that he was going to back anyway, but the fact that I wanted to be the one who killed the man, just like they killed my parents and my family now, that was not something that I wanted him to know. I knew that his wife was the one who was in charge of my family’s death. But he was the one in charge of eliminating them as an as omegas instead of alphas. That was something that broke me, especially considering that he could have chosen a different position. He could have made a different choice, but instead he chose to humiliate them by, instead of killing them, turning them into the lowest rank in the pack. And that was not something that I could accept.
Especially considering the fact that I was the one who suffered from it. It wasn’t him, it wasn’t my parents, nor was it Alexander. It was me who caught this blame. It was me who worked as a maid for them for my whole life. And it was me who received all the hate from the pack, their pity and their anger despite everything that I have done. “Alright, for now, please get some rest. We’re going to eat something when we get home. You haven’t eaten anything throughout the whole day.” He said, looking at me and I nodded, not wanting to argue. The last thing that I needed right now was to have an argument with him. If anything, I was just thankful that we were somewhat safe right now.
“Sure. We can talk about this when we get to the house. That place is not going to be our home. This is something that we all need to understand, Alexander. We are going to go back to the pack and things are going to get right. But for now, I’m going to be patient for your and for my daughter’s sake. She needs to grow stronger and you need to find a way to actually maintain yourself and find the pack members if what Kale said was true.” I said, looking at my husband, who frowned. The fact that I could sense his weakness was not something that I liked, especially if he was an alpha. The man needed to act like one, he needed to fight like one, and he needed to be one. Weakening was not an option, especially in the state.
If anything, I was more than willing now to claim what was mine more than ever. The man not only deprived me from what belonged to me, but he had the audacity to look me in the eyes throughout all this time without having the remorse of thinking about how I might have felt.
Therefore, I wasn’t going to let what happened slide. No matter what it took, I was going to get what belonged to me again. “What do you mean?” Alexander asked, voicing out his confusion as he looked down at me. I looked him dead in the eye, letting him know that I was serious about this, and that this was not something that I was joking about. It was something that meant the world to me and I was going to prove it to him and to everyone who thought to think otherwise.
“I mean that we need to find the pack members and we need to go back to our pack. As staying here will be temporary and that would be something that I will fight you for, that is something that I want you to know, Alexander.”
