Lily was at his villa because he had accidentally overheard Mathilda’s phone call with Elsa and learned of their plan.

He also wanted James and everyone else to believe Lily was dead; that way, she would belong only to him. Therefore, he had not interfered with their plan.

However, he had made preparations in advance in the waters beneath that cliff.

That was why, when Lily was thrown from the cliff, she landed in the net he had arranged. He had used the time gap before James reached the cliff’s edge to take her away.

Lily had been unconscious ever since falling into the sea.

He had someone examine her and was told she was fine, but her continued failure to wake had left him extremely worried.

He had, in fact, considered getting rid of the children in her belly while she was unconscious.

However, her lack of consciousness made him deeply uneasy. He was afraid that removing the children before she had recovered would damage her health, perhaps even costing her the ability to ever be a mother. So, he had changed his mind.

After all, he hoped that one day, she would bear his children.

Half a month had passed. Everyone believed she was dead. From now on, she could only stay by his side.

It wouldn’t be too late to prepare a mild concoction to get rid of her children after she had recuperated.

Seeing her try to get out of bed and leave the moment she awoke, the joy in his eyes vanished, instantly replaced by a sinister gloom.

He would certainly not let her leave. He grabbed her wrist, his grip allowing no resistance. “Lily, you were unconscious for a long time. Your body hasn’t fully recovered. You can’t run around; you need to rest.”

“I want to go home! I want to find James!”

Lily didn’t know how she had ended up with Mergan.

She only knew that Mergan was Mathilda’s brother, and their entire family was trouble. She definitely did not want to be with him.

“Mergan, let go!”

“Lily, stop it.”

Mergan’s grip on her wrist tightened. “You’ve been missing for half a month. James thinks you’re dead. Everyone thinks you’re dead. James already has a new lover. I hear they’re inseparable and deeply affectionate. Lily, he doesn’t want you anymore.”

He repeated, his voice verging on paranoid, “James doesn’t want you anymore!”

Half a month…

She had been unconscious for half a month!

Lily’s eyelashes trembled in pain as tears streamed silently down her face.

She trusted James.

She didn’t believe a single word of Mergan’s nonsense about a new lover.

Her heart simply ached for James.

That day was his birthday. It should have been a perfect, happy day. But instead, she had been thrown from a cliff right in front of him. How could he possibly have been happy?

For half a month, she had lain here, oblivious to the world. She didn’t dare to imagine how he had managed to endure such a long time.

She felt an even more desperate need to see him, to let him know she was safe, and to wish him a happy birthday.

Even though her wish was late, she still wanted to say it.

“Mergan, I’ll say it one more time. Let me go!”

Her eyes red, Lily tried to pry Mergan’s fingers from her wrist.

But she had just woken up and hadn’t recovered her strength, and Mergan was far too strong. She couldn’t break his grip.

She lifted her head, glaring at him with pure hatred. “I’ve made it very clear: Mathilda is your sister. I have nothing to do with your family. Keeping me here is false imprisonment. You have no right to do this to me!”

“Lily, just rest and recover here.”

Catching the hatred in her eyes, Mergan’s expression remained calm, but the sinister obsession in his gaze grew even more frightening.

His fingers tightened, bit by bit. Even as his knuckles turned white, he increased the pressure. “When you’ve recovered, I’ll help you get rid of those two bastards. We’ll be together properly from now on. In a couple of years, we’ll have a child of our own!”

Lily’s eyes flew wide.

After being adopted by the Ginger family, she had genuinely seen Mergan as an older brother.

Since breaking ties with them, he had become a stranger to her.

She had never, ever imagined he would harbor such feelings for her.

It was utterly disgusting!

Her only relief was that the babies in her belly were, indeed, still there.

But the moment she realized Mergan intended to kill her babies, a fresh wave of panic seized her.

She had to get out of here immediately. She absolutely could not let this madman, Mergan, harm the babies in her belly.

“Mergan, I despise you, but I still called you ‘brother’ for over a decade. Wanting to be with your own adopted sister… you’re truly disgusting!”

Lily stared at him with wariness and disgust, enunciating every word. “Let go. I won’t be a part of your madness!”

Disgusting…

Mergan already had a gloomy disposition. After hearing Lily’s words, his expression turned so foul it was as if someone had murdered his entire family.

In truth, sometimes he also felt he was insane for harboring such feelings for his adopted sister.

When he first became aware of these feelings, he felt he was utterly shameless and tried to suppress them.

But the harder he tried to restrain himself, the desire to obtain her, to possess her exclusively, only grew more wildly in his mind.

He would dream of her at night, tangling with her madly time and time again.

He had already sunk into obsession and could no longer bring himself to see her merely as his adopted sister.

Only by possessing her exclusively, by trapping her in a prison of his own making, could his already unhinged heart find some measure of salvation.

This time, after so much preparation and meticulous scheming, he had finally brought her into his domain. How could he possibly let go?

He didn’t want to argue with her. He suppressed the hostility in his eyes and said softly, “Lily, we’re not related by blood. Why can’t we be together? We used to get along so well. You relied on me wholeheartedly, you adored me, and I cared deeply for you… I truly know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have only believed Mathilda’s side of the story. From now on, I will trust you and cherish you. Stop thinking about James. Let’s just be together, alright?”

Madman! Lily’s gaze was still filled with disgust and wariness.

Even when they were on the best of terms, she had only ever seen him as family, as a brother. She had never felt a trace of romantic interest in him. How could she possibly be with him?

Besides, for Mathilda’s sake, he had repeatedly trampled on her dignity and forced her into impossible situations. She was no saint. How could she possibly live in harmony with such a man?

“Mergan, this only makes me hate you more!”

Lily was so frantic that a fine sheen of sweat broke out on her forehead.

Just as she was about to say more, he suddenly surged forward, pulling her into a death grip.
