“I see,” I nodded.

“Understood.”

“Ms.Quinn, you..”

“It’s nothing.”

I smiled and said, “Just a random question.”

The afternoon session was more intense.

Countries were clashing over trade issues, and the atmosphere was super tense.

In my booth, I caught every single detail.

Suddenly, a reporter stood up.

“I’d like to ask Ms.Quinn a question.”

All eyes turned to the interpreting booth.

I pressed the talk button.

“Please.”

“Ms.Quinn, we are all aware of your exceptional performance during the Mayland crisis.

On behalf of all who admire you, may I ask, as a top-tier simultaneous interpreter, what is the professional principle you are most proud of?”

The question silenced the entire room.

I looked towards the first row, where Jared sat.

He wore a confident smile, waiting for my “standard answer.”

I took a deep breath and pressed the microphone button.

“True professionalism..”

My voice rang out, clear and steady.

“.is knowing that my husband risked his life to protect his mistress..”

Jared’s smile froze instantly.

“and still being able to calmly, as the lead interpreter..”

A restless murmur began to spread through the room. accurately convey the commands that would ultimately save him.”

With those words, I switched off the microphone.

The room fell into a dead silence.

Jared’s face went ashen, as if struck by lightning.

I looked at him, feeling a peace I hadn’t known in years.

That was my answer, After the meeting, the entire venue was enveloped in an eerie quiet.

As I stepped out of the booth, I came face-to-face with a livid Jared.

“Kathy, are you out of your mind?” He hissed, his voice low, but his eyes practically spitting fury.

“I’ve never been clearer.”

“Do you have any idea what you just did? The whole world was watching!” “Of course, I do,” I said, tidying my documents.

“I spoke the truth.”

Jared tried to grab my arm, but two uniformed security officers subtly blocked hìm.

Robert appeared at my side.

“Ms.Quinn, per protocol, I’ll escort you back to the lounge.”

His voice was low and powerful, like hitting a solid wall.

“Thank you.”

I followed Robert out, hearing Jared’s voice behind me.

“Kathy! We’re not done here!” Robert didn’t look back.

“Minister Stanley, please maintain order during the summit.”

In the lounge, Robert handed me an unopened bottle of water.

“Well done.”

It wasn’t comfort, but the acknowledgement of one professional to another.

“Thanks,” I said, taking the water, “Did I cause you trouble?” “No.”

Robert sat opposite me, “The truth is never trouble.”

I looked at him, really looking for the first time, A square face, deep-set eyes, and the unwavering resolve unique to a soldier.

“Captain Walsh, don’t you think I was too impulsive?” “Impulsive?” Robert shook his head.

“I’ve seen true impulsiveness during the Mayland crisis.

That nearly got everyone killed.”

He was clearly referring to Jared.

“What you said just now was to uphold the integrity of true professionalism.”

A rapid knock sounded at the door.

Robert stood to open it.

It was his subordinate.

“Captain, Minister Stanley wants to see Ms.Quinn.”

“No.”

Robert answered directly.

“But he said..”

“I said no.”

Robert’s tone left no room for negotiation.

“During the summit, Ms.Quinn’s security is entirely my responsibility.”

The subordinate nodded and left.

Robert returned to his seat.

“Your safety is guaranteed by me until the Summit ends.”

The statement sounded formal, but for some reason, I felt a long-lost sense of security.

“Captain Walsh, you really don’t have to.

I can take care of myself.”

“I know you can.”

Robert looked at me.

“But it’s my duty.”

He paused, then added, “Besides, I’ve seen too many excellent people slandered by petty individuals.

You deserve better protection.”

His words warmed my heart.

In three years, no one had ever said anything like that to me.

Jared always said I was too strong, that I didn’t need protecting.

Yet, this man I had only recently met said I deserved better protection.

“Thanks, Robert.”

It was the first time l’d called him by his first name.

He seemed surprised for a moment, then nodded.

“You’re welcome, Kathy.”

Another knock came at the door, this time even more urgent.

Robert frowned and got up to open it.

Outside stood Bailee, her eyes red, looking like she’d been crying.

“Kathy, may I come in?” “No.”

Robert blocked the doorway.

“This is a restricted area.”

“But I’m with the translation team..”

“The translation team’s area is on the third floor.”

Robert’s tone was cold.

“You don’t belong here.”

Bailee tried to peer inside, but Robert’s body completely obstructed her view.

“Kathy, I know you’re in there.”
