“You promised you’d always be good to me. I’m dying of a terrible illness-I don’t have long left. You said you’d protect and care for me in my final days. How can you… how can you tell me I deserve to die? It’s Jackson-he’s slandering me. He’s so close to Lily. Lily always hated me. He’s framing me for her…”

Simon’s fury boiled over. The woman who had stolen Lizzy’s identity, stolen Lizzy’s pendant, and stolen all the warmth meant for Lily still had the gall to smear her name. He raised his hand and struck Elsa across the face.

But to him, Elsa was no longer human. If he hit her, so what?
He had always despised her schemes and slanders, even while standing at her side.
It had been only the memory of Lizzy’s warmth under the rubble that kept him there.
Now that he knew Lily was Lizzy, how could he continue to protect this beast?
“Simon… you hit me?”
Elsa was stunned. She had never imagined he would dare strike her. She covered her cheek, frozen in disbelief before whispering shakily.
“Elsa, hitting you is nothing. I wish I could kill you.”
Simon’s voice shook with rage and self-loathing.
Thinking of everything he had done for Elsa, and what it had cost Lily, he wanted not just to destroy her but to destroy himself.
He had known Lily for a long time.
He hadn’t wanted to admit it, but it was true.
Even the first time he had gone to the hotel to confront her, he had already felt something he could not suppress.
But because he believed she was the villain who had wronged Lizzy, he had forced his feelings down and lashed out at her instead.
If only-if only he had known earlier that she was his Lizzy. He would never have insulted her, accused her, wrapped his fingers cruelly around her neck.
He would have punished Elsa for tormenting her.
He would have held her in his palm.
When John mistreated her, he would have shielded her, avenged her.

Simon let out a bitter laugh.
The curl of his lips held nothing but mockery and disgust-mockery for himself.
The harder he laughed, the redder his eyes grew, self-hatred burning deep within them. “Those two days under the rubble, Lizzy didn’t just sing to me. She even made up a song of her own…
He fixed Elsa with a gaze sharp enough to cut. “Elsa, you claim you’re Lizzy? Then sing me that song. If you can sing it, I’ll believe you.”

Elsa’s teeth rattled with fury.
That wretch Lily-why had she gone and made up some ridiculous song?
How could she possibly know what it was?
She opened her mouth, ready to bluff her way out, when Jackson’s hoarse voice broke the air, reciting the lyrics:
“Swallow flies, grasshopper jumps, little bugs all looking for mama…”
Simon’s vision blurred in an instant.
His face was wet. For a moment, he thought it was rain.
But when he raised a trembling hand to his cheek, he realized-it was his tears.
An ocean of regret and pain surged through him, drowning his heart like a sea of blades. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t speak. He could barely exist.
Back when he and Lizzy parted, he had sworn silently that no matter how many years passed, he would know her at a glance.
So how had he mistaken someone else?
How could he have been so unspeakably blind?
Elsa saw the crimson in his eyes and felt her own heart shrink in fear. She knew then-he would never believe her again. He would never hold her as treasure.
From now on, he would only side with Lily. Worse, he would avenge Lily through her.
“Simon, you’re such a fool!”
John’s voice rang from nearby. He had heard it all.
With a crooked, self-mocking smile, he muttered, “As much a fool as me.”
Simon didn’t argue. He hated his own stupidity as much as John did.
Elsa turned, panic rising, and tried to slip away. But Jackson’s men blocked her path.
“Going somewhere?”
Jackson strode toward her, eyes bloodshot, his voice dripping venom. “Who would kidnap both you and Lily just to threaten Simon? Only one answer makes sense-this kidnapping was your play. You feared Simon would learn the truth about sixteen years ago. So you forced him to choose between you and Lily.”
“I didn’t!”
Elsa shook her head wildly, eyes shining with false innocence. “I was a victim too! Look, the kidnappers even cut my neck. How can you accuse me?”
Jackson didn’t bother with her whining. He was sick of her lies.
Evidence would be cleaner than her words.
“We’ll see whether you were in league with them.”
At that, Elsa’s stomach dropped. A deep, ugly premonition spread inside her.
Before she could ask what he meant, Jackson’s men had already wrenched her phone from her pocket.
With a cold sneer, Jackson took it and pressed it to her face to unlock it.
“Give it back!” Elsa shrieked, thrashing like a madwoman. “You can’t just dig through my phone! That’s my privacy-you can’t-“
“How interesting,” Jackson cut her off with another icy laugh.
“If kidnappers really had you, wouldn’t the first thing they do be to throw out your phone, so you couldn’t call for help? They were ready to kill, yet they let you keep this? How very kind of them.”
Then, with a flash of malice, he turned to one of his men. “Take off your sock.”
The man blinked, puzzled, but loyal. He tugged off his sweat-soaked sock at once.
“Stuff it in her mouth.”
The man’s lips twitched into a grim smile. He had seen how much Jackson cared for Lily, and he suspected Elsa had brought about her downfall.
He seized her chin and rammed the filthy sock between her teeth.
It stank-sweat, mildew, and ointment for his athlete’s foot all mixing into one choking stench.
Elsa gagged, eyes rolling back.
She had always held herself high, prided herself on being untouchable, immaculate.
And now, with a reeking sock forced down her throat, her dignity was shredded to rags.
I want lily and James together . …it’s so disappointing that she just disappeared and now few years of gaps and she will return with twins and new husband or lover or boyfriend. So so disappointing
