“Now try to turn back,” Zane said, grabbing a shawl from the closet. He threw it onto me, so as soon as I’d turned back, I’d be completely covered with the shawl.

My heart warmed at the gesture.

This man’s consideration was beyond anything I’d ever seen.

He was truly the kindest person I knew.

I closed my eyes, doing the same thing I did to shift into a werewolf.

Thankfully, it worked this time too.

In a mere moment, I was on the ground on my hands and knees, a human, the shawl covering me completely.

Zane whistled, clapping his hands as I hugged the shawl around me and stood up.

He closed the space between us without wasting a single second.

His lips brushed mine, warm and careful, before he claimed my mouth with his. My eyes were still glowing faintly purple, but he didn’t pull away. He touched me like he wasn’t afraid of the power in me. Like he accepted it. Admired it.

Zane backed me up until I hit the edge of the bed. His mouth left mine only to kiss down my jaw, the side of my neck-the spot where I carried his mark.

I let my hands run under his shirt.

His muscles tensed beneath my fingers. I pressed my lips to his collarbone, making him exhale sharply.

“Lia,” he murmured.

“Yeah?”

“If you keep doing that, I’m going to stop pretending I’m in control.”

I looked up at him, heart racing. “Who said I want you to be?”

His eyes turned black.

He picked me up easily and laid me on the bed, crawling in beside me, keeping our bodies close but not rushing anything. His hand found mine, thumb brushing my knuckles.

I kissed him again, slower this time. Just the two of us, with the stars above and the moon shining down like it was blessing everything.

“I love you,” I whispered.

Zane pulled me tighter. “I love you too.”

His fingers brushed my cheek, slow and gentle, like he was memorising me. His eyes searched mine.

“Lia,” he whispered, voice barely above a breath. “Will you mark me?”

I stared at him. “You sure want me to?”

He smiled-a little shy, a little proud. “Of course I do. There’s nothing I want more. I’d thought I’d never have a mark because you were human. But now that you can, I don’t wanna spend another second without flaunting it on my neck.”

A smile stretched across my lips. My hands tightened on his shoulders, and suddenly the whole world narrowed to just us-his warm skin, his eyes which were black with desire, and the steady beat of his heart under my palms. He leaned in, touching his forehead to mine.

“I marked you when I was afraid,” he murmured. “I didn’t even ask. But now I want this to be yours. Your choice.”

My throat tightened. “Zane…” I whispered, his name a mantra I wanted to repeat on my tongue as long as I lived.

He pulled back enough to tilt his head, baring the curve of his neck to me. There was no fear in it. No urgency. Just trust. Complete, unflinching trust.

“You don’t have to,” he said gently. “But I want to carry something of you. Just like you carry something of me.’

I didn’t answer with words. I leaned in slowly, one hand sliding up his chest to the side of his neck. His skin was warm under my fingers. He closed his eyes, breath catching, and my heart ached with how much I loved him.

I pressed my lips there first-soft and lingering, letting myself feel the moment.

Then I opened my mouth, gliding my tongue across his skin just like he’d do to me.

Zane’s hold around me tightened, and he sucked in a sharp breath.

His skin started to pulse under my lips, begging for my teeth to be dug in.

This was about devotion. About making him as fully mine as I was his.

Finally, I let my canines grow, before sinking them into his neck, guided by instinct but steady.

Zane growled, pulling me closer, his fingers clutching onto the shawl around me.

He let out a soft exhale then, his head dropping to my shoulder as I drew back slowly, the taste of him still on my lips. I licked the blood clean, smiling at the mark I’d left on him. The mark he’d carry forever.

“Thank you,” he whispered, his voice low and raw.

“For what?” I asked, a little breathless.

“For choosing me,” he said, looking up at me with so much love in his eyes it nearly crumbled me. “For staying. For everything.” the

I pressed my forehead to his again, tears pricking my vision. “I was always yours, Zane.”

He smiled, brushing his nose against mine. “But now it’s permanent and official.”

“Yeah,” I chuckled. “Now it’s official.”

We didn’t speak after that. We just stayed there, curled into each other beneath the stars, our bond stronger than it had ever been.

And for once, I didn’t feel like a nerd, a goddess or a freak pretending to be brave.

I felt like myself.

Like Lia Snow.

Zane’s mate.

Zane’s equal.

His Luna.

-WARNER’S POV-

“He’s losing it,” Aaron muttered, slumped across the couch with a frown on his face.

“Or he’s already lost it,” Sheila added, arms crossed, one foot tapping against the floor like she was waiting for someone to say something that would make it all make sense.

We were all in the den again, the four of us. The Hounds. Same as always, except not really. Because the fifth person in our group-Zane-was suddenly acting like he didn’t trust us anymore.

“He moved her to the pack house overnight. Didn’t even say a word until she was already there. And then made the official announcement,” Ajax said.

“Which he also didn’t tell us about,” Aaron pointed out.

I leaned forward, elbows on my knees. “I’m not defending him. But there’s something about her, okay? Something that’s got him tangled.”

Sheila raised a brow. “You mean like love?”

“No,” I said slowly. “It’s more than that.”

They all looked at me, waiting for me to elaborate.

“I didn’t want to say this until I was sure, but I guess it’s time. Back at the burger place,” I started, “she told him to order a mushroom burger. And he just… agreed. Slapped the menu shut like it was over.”

Aaron blinked. “So?”

“Zane hates mushrooms. Can’t stand them. We’ve made fun of him about it for years. But he didn’t flinch. Didn’t even hesitate. Just agreed to order it.”

Ajax leaned back. “Maybe he didn’t want to tell her no?”

“Exactly. That’s not like Zane. He argues over everything. He always challenged her in the past, teased her. But now, ever since the war, he’s different around her.”

Silence fell. Aaron and Sheila glanced at each other.

“And there’s more,” I added. “Remember that day at school? Rhonda and her idiot friend were flirting with Zane. Put their hands on him. And Zane told them to back off. But it wasn’t normal. It wasn’t Alpha Zane. It was…” I paused, trying to find the right words. “He looked scared of her. Because she was starting to get pissed.”

Before anyone could reply, the door creaked open.

Zane stepped in, looking tired but calm. “I am scared of her,” he said simply.

We all turned towards him, caught off guard.

Aaron was the first to recover. “That’s not okay,” he said. “You’re the Alpha. You can’t be scared of your Luna.”
