“Hey, you.”
I bit my lip. “You should go,” I whispered. “Dad said you’re not allowed in here.”
“Is that so?” he asked, taking my wrists ever so casually, and pinning them on either side of me.
-LIA’S POV-
I sucked in a breath, my heart starting to race.
“Yeah…” I trailed off.
“What about you? Do you want me gone?” He raised an eyebrow.
I blushed, lowering my gaze. “Yes?”
“That was question, not an answer.” He let go of one of my wrists to take my chin and forced me to meet his gaze. “Do you want me gone, Lia?”
“No,” I said honestly. “I want you to stay.”
Zane smirked. “Thought so.” He leaned in and planted a lingering kiss onto my cheek.
I grinned. “You’re really romantic,” I whispered.
“Am I?” He leaned on the door with his forearm against it.
I stared up at him, thinking of running away from him. But I knew there was no point in doing that. So I kept standing there.
“Yes. It’s nice.”
“You wanna take this to the bed so I can ask you to repeat what you said downstairs?”
“No…?” I said, amused.
“My bad, I made it sound like you have a choice.”
He lifted me up by the waist, making me gasp as he took me to the bed and roughly threw me onto it.
“What are you doing?” I asked, my skin littering with goosebumps and tingles.
He stood at the edge, watching me. “Last chance, Lia. I am going to tickle you if I climb in.”
Now my eyes widened. “I will scream again and you’ll be caught.”
“Oh don’t worry, I’ll gag you first this time.”
He made a move to climb in, and I squeaked, backing away from him. “Okay, okay! I said I love you!”
Zane stopped immediately, a huge smile taking over his lips. Then he climbed in, straddling my body. I pressed myself tightly against the bed, squeezing my eyes shut.
“You’re safe,” he said, “open your eyes.”
Hesitantly, I obliged.
“I thought you said you’ll patiently wait for me to say it,” I pointed out.
“And I did. You said it already. Now I can hear it as many times. as I want.”
“But I didn’t have another option downstairs,” I argued.
“Not my problem, love.”
I smiled, narrowing my eyes at him. “You’re an idiot.”
“Maybe I am. But you love me, so what does that make you?”
“A girl in love?” I asked, wrapping my arms around his neck.
Zane’s eyes darkened slightly. “It makes you my girl.”
“You still haven’t asked me to be your girlfriend.”
“Lia Snow, my mate, and the love of my life, the best thing that has ever happened to me, the only girl I will ever feel anything. for, my much, much better half, my sweetheart, and the prettiest girl on this planet, would you please be my girlfriend?”
I laughed. “I was about to say that this isn’t how you should ask me, but your words won me over. Yes, Zanc. I will be your girlfriend.”
Zane leaned in, and I closed my eyes, but he stopped before our lips would touch.
I opened my eyes, frowning.
“What?” I asked.
He swallowed, staring at me. His eyes darkened further. My heart gave a thump in my chest.
“I can’t,” he whispered.
“But I can.” I leaned up and pressed my lips to his.
Now he kissed me back with enthusiasm, his arms wrapping around my waist and pulling me tighter against himself. His tongue slipped into my mouth, and my entire body erupted with sparks, my mind going completely numb. I was on cloud nine once more, every kiss feeling better than the last. I closed my eyes shut, wanting to focus all my attention on how amazing I felt. It felt like we were levitating, far, far beyond this world, in a place meant only for the two of us.
I heard a distant howl, and a wolf with a silver coat appeared before me.
My eyes shot open, and I pulled away from Zane, breathing heavily.
“What’s wrong?” Zane asked, his eyes black.
I pulled away from him, sucking in a breath.
“Sorry, sorry,” he muttered, closing his eyes and withdrawing from me.
I sat up, my heart hammering in my chest.
Zane relaxed himself and then met my gaze, his eyes back to blue.
“I’m sorry, Lia, did I scare you?”
I let out a shuddering breath. “No, you didn’t. Uh… I had a dream.”
Zane frowned. “What dream? Right now? You weren’t asleep.”
“No, not right now. I had a dream that night, when I was attacked and unconscious. I was dreaming the whole time.”
“Okay?” He nodded. “What was it?”
“I was in a forest, and then I think I saw a beautiful silver wolf. Then it led me to a river, and when I looked in, I saw… something weird. It was like… I don’t know.”
Zane shifted closer to me, frowning. “It was just a dream, my love. Don’t think too much of it.”
“No, Zane, it was very real. You don’t understand.”
“I do,” he reassured, taking my hands in his. “Vivid dreams are disturbing sometimes, I know. They feel like memories or visions of the future. But they’re usually nothing. You know that.”
I pursed my lips, slowly nodding.
-LIA’S POV-
“Hey,” he cupped my cheeks, “don’t worry about things that haven’t happened, alright? Focus on me. On us. We’re really great together.”
I smiled. “We are.”
“Yes, exactly. So focus on me. Forget about everything else. Your said nothing else matters.”
“It doesn’t.”
“There is a lot going on in your life, Lia. A lot has changed for you, and it’s all been very sudden. Your mind and body both need time to adjust, to cope with all this information and these new feelings and emotions. If you start worrying about every little dream, or every little thing you hear, you’re only going to stress yourself out.”
I took a deep breath, nodding. “You’re right.”
“Just place your trust in me, okay? I will not let anyone or anything harm you. I love you, Lia Snow. And I promise to protect you.”
“I know you will,” I said, warmth spreading through my chest.
“Good. Now let’s go back to kissing.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “No, no more. I have to sleep. School night, remember?”
Zane shrugged. “Not a problem. It’s not like we go to different schools. I will have you in the morning, in the janitor’s closet.”
