“Your bestie was devouring me with her eyes. And you agreed with her.”

“I never agreed with her.”

“Lia Snow you’re turning into a liar. Don’t forget our tropes,” he teased. “You’re supposed to be the good, human girl.”

I smiled. “Maybe I’m just spending too much time with the bad boy Alpha.”

“The bad boy Alpha, or your bad boy Alpha?”

Heat rose to my cheeks. “You’re trying to make me say ‘mine’.”

Zane let out a soft growl, making my stomach do an odd, excited. twist. “Missed it.”

“Don’t worry,” I said, “I might say it soon.”

“Is that reassurance?”

“Maybe.”

“You are way too good at this for a girl with no experience.”

“Sorry, Zane Adams, if I’m too much for you to handle.”

–

“You’re not too much, love,” he pulled my chair closer, making my heart do a funny flip. “You’re more than enough.”

A genuine smile stretched over my lips. I stared into his eyes, feeling warmth spread in my chest.

The bell rang just then, making us break eye contact.

“Moment ruined by the bell,” Zane commented.

“Let’s go to class.”

-LIA’S POV-

The rest of the day went by uneventful. There was no sign of Blake, and after the last period, Zane offered to drop me home.

“You think I’m gonna say no to that after what happened?”

“You shouldn’t, but you never know with you.”

“I’m not that difficult, Zane.”

“Of course. Not at all.”

I rolled my eyes and sat in his passenger seat, putting on my seat belt while he closed the door. He got in as well, and then we drove away from school.

“Have you decided what to do?” Zane asked.

“About?”

“You said you’re going to tell your parents.”

“Oh, yeah, I have.”

He waited for me to elaborate.

“I’m gonna ask them tonight. I will try to beat around the bush first, see if they get a hint or reveal something. Then if they don’t and I absolutely have to, I wil tell them the truth. They probably won’t believe me though.”

“I could come,” Zane said. “Help prove it so they don’t put you in crazy ward.”

“I don’t think that will be necessary,” I said.

“You sure?”

“Okay, maybe eventually we can do that. Not immediately, though. I don’t want to frighten them too much.”

“Yeah, they would freak out. Especially when they already hate. me.”

“They don’t hate you.”

“Are you sure?” He raised an eyebrow, giving me a half smile.

“Okay, little bit, I guess. But it’s nothing irrepairable.”

“I hope not.”

We pulled at my house, and Zane turned his full attention to me. “Take care, love. Be careful, alright? I’ll be around.”

“Today as well?” I asked.

“Until The Order is gone, I’m not taking any risks.”

“What if we get caught?” I asked.

“Then your parents hate me a little more.” He shrugged. “Nothing we can’t gel past, right?”

I smiled. “I guess?”

“I don’t like the way that sounded.”

I chuckled. “Alright. Yes. We can get past that.”

“That’s better.” He took my hand and planted a kiss on it.

“I should go,” I said.

“I’d walk you to the door, but I don’t think your mom will appreciate it.”

“Yeah. I can go. Good bye, Zane.”

“Good bye.

I stepped out of his car, and closed the door, making my way to the door. When I rang the bell, Zane reversed his car, to stay out of my mom’s view. When she opened the door and I stepped inside, I heard him leave.

“Hi honey,” Mom greeted with a smile.

“Hi Mom. How are you?”

“I am good. Look who’s waiting for you in the dining room.”

I frowned. “Who?”

“Go see for youself.”

His scent now hit my nose.

I could almost hear the loud beats of his heart.

“Blake?” I asked softly.

“Yes,” she smiled. “He said he left school early, so he came here to see you.”

I took in a deep breath, my face falling completely.

“Can you ask him to meet me in my bedroom?”

Mom narrowed her eyes, giving me a cheeky smile. “I don’t think your Dad will appreciate that.”

“Mom, please. I need to speak to him alone.”

She frowned, sensing the worry in my voice.

“Is everything okay?”

“No, but it will be if you send him to my room. We just need to talk alone.”

“Okay,” Mom frowned. “You know if there’s anything wrong, you can tell me.”

“I know, Mom,” I reassured. “Don’t worry. Just send him up, okay?”

Blake stepped out of the dining room himself.
