Ajax held back a snort. “Alpha’s blushing,” he whispered.

I grimaced. “Are you mad? You think your Alpha blushes? Am I a girl?”

“Aaron blushes,” Sheila smiled.

“No, I don’t,” Aaron tried, then Sheila glanced at him and he folded. “Okay, fine, I do.” He smiled.

For the first time, I was entirely repulsed seeing the two of them act all cute and romantic.

Instead, I felt a faint ache in my heart. When would that be Lia and I? When would the two of us be able to joke around like that?

“Does Blake know she’s your mate too?” Warner asked, changing the subject, distracting me from thosr thoughts.

“Yes. He caught us together.” I smirked at the memory.

The Hounds all smiled. “What happened, then? Who even is he?” Ajax asked.

“He’s the Alpha of the Red Moon pack. They’re from a neighbouring town. He came here searching for her. When he caught me inside her house, naturally we got into a fight. Lia was really scared so I didn’t hit him in front of her. Lucky for me, he dragged me outside and ordered her not to follow. We went into the forest and then I beat the shit out of him.”

“Why didn’t you kill him?” Warner asked.

“Because I don’t need to. I am going to win her over fair and square.”

“He has an advantage, you know,” Sheila pointed out. “In her story, he’s clearly her knight in shining armour, while you’re one of the villains.”

“I used to be,” I nodded, “but not anymore. And Blake is an idiot. He lashed out on her for seeing me. Soon, she’s gonna feel suffocated with him and be drawn to me on her own.”

“Let’s hope that happens,” Ajax said. “I’m gonna have to find a new target now.” He sighed.

We all chuckled. I shook my head. Idiot.

“Congratulations, Zane.” Aaron stepped forwrad and pulled me into a hug. “I am happy for you.”

“Thanks, man.” I grinned.

The rest of them followed his lead, congratulating me, and promising to never bother Lia again.

I’d fulfilled my promise to her, even if she didn’t know as yet. I knew she was mad at me right now. And very hurt. But very soon, I’d be stealing her back from Blake.

He wouldn’t know what hit him.

And Lia would be the happiest she’d ever been.

-LIA’S POV-

Blake and I spent the next two hours together, talking, studying and laughing. Every time our skins made contact, I would feel those tingles shooting up my body. At this point, I’d gotten used to the feeling, mentally accepting that I had officially gone mad and would soon up end up in an assylum of some kind. Until then, I would enjoy the attention I was receiving from boys all of a sudden.

They call it ‘sweet sixteens’ for a reason.

“Today was incredible,” I said to Blake, smiling at him. “Thank you, Blake.”

We were standing outside my house, the sky dark now, stars glimmering above us. The cool night breeze gently blew my hair around as I stared up at him, taking note of his facial features. His nose was eerily perfect, as though the Creator had used geometrical tools to carve it.

“Thank you for having me, Lia. You’re the best hostess ever.” laughed. “Sure, Blake. I didn’t even cook for you. That was all my mom.”

“You didn’t have to cook,” he shook his head, “I showed up all of a sudden.”

“Still.” I smiled.

“Mrs. Snow cooks delicious food, so I’d rather have that anyway.”

“Wait till you taste mine,” I said smugly. “It’ll be only slightly burnt.”

Blake laughed. “I’m sure I’ll love it. So when is it gonna be?”

He wanted me to invite him over again.

“When are you available?” I asked, feeling my heart race slightly.

“Tomorrow night?”

“Sure. I’ll see you, Blake.”

“Good bye, Lia. See you in the morning, and then at night.”

“Good bye.”

He finally walked away, his hands in his pockets, and I stood at the door, watching him for quite some time. He turned back towards me a couple of times, and I waved at him each time, making him laugh. Finally, when he disappeared from view, I returned inside the house, a huge smile playing on my lips.

“Look at that,” Mom teased as I shut the door, making my smile widen. “Lia is blushing.”

“Is she now?” Dad asked, narrowing his eyes at me.

“I am sixteen, Dad. I am allowed to blush after meeting boys.” I chuckled.

Dad rolled his eyes. “I could take him.”

“You don’t need to. He’s just a friend for now.”

“For now,” Mom emphasised. “I love him, Lia. He’s so cute and charming.”

“He is.” I nodded.

“I am so glad your school finally has boys like him. Otherwise it was full of idiots like those dogs.”

“Hounds,” I laughed.

“Whatever. So stupid.”

My amused smile faltered slightly as my mind went back to Zane.

“Anyway, I’m gonna go to bed now. Thanks for the dinner, Mom.”

–

“Good night honey.”

“Good night.” I made my way to my bedroom, my mind filled. with thoughts of Blake. The way he’d pushed me against the door, and complimented the colour of my eyes. In that tiny moment, he’d made me feel more seen than Zane had in spite of the elaborate effort he’d put in.

I closed the door of my room, locking it, before turning towards the bed. A loud gasp left my lips as my gaze met Zane’s, who was standing at the side of my bed.

“What the hell?” I whispered, scowling. “What are you doing. here?”

“Shh, shh,” he pressed a finger to his lips, walking towards me.

I stepped back, glaring at him. “Stay back, Zane. Don’t come near me.”

He paused, eyebrows pulling together. “Alright, relax. What’s wrong?”

“What’s wrong? You’re in my bedroom!”

“Not the first time, love.”

“So?” I cried. “I didn’t call you even then!”

“Alright, fair. Why are you so mad though?” He took another step closer to me.

I quickly slipped away from the wall, not in the mood to be trapped by him again. “Because I don’t like you showing up at my house unannounced. In my bedroom like this.”

“But you’re okay with Blake being here?” He raised a brow.

“How do you know?”

“I can smell him.”

I frowned. “What?”

“I saw him leave, Lia. He just left,” he said in a duh tone.

“Right. Yes, I’m okay with him being here, but not you.”

“Why?”

“Because he’s my friend, and you’re my bully.”

“Bully? I’ve never bullied you.”
