“John, shut your mouth!”

James’s tenderness vanished, replaced by lethal cold. His eyes burnéd with a killing intent that chilled the air.

“Lily would never do such a thing!”

“Ha!”

John let out a harsh laugh.

“There’s a video of her with another man, and you still say she couldn’t? James, you’re only lying to yourself!”

He no longer looked at James. His eyes lifted to Lily instead

At first, they were ablaze with fury, as if he wanted to drag her, the so-called whore, into hell with him.

But then, slowly, the fire dimmed. The killing edge faded, replaced by helplessness and bitter self- mockery.

Closing his eyes in near despair, he reopened them, facing what he could no longer deny. His voice brokei hoarse and low

“Lily, come back to me. I don’t care that you married James. I don’t even care if you slept with the man in that video. I can ignore it all. I only want you with me. If you’ll just agree to start over, I can make this whole scandal disappear. Lily… come back.”

“John, you’re sick!”

Lily’s eyes turned colder, sharper, dripping with loathing.

He dared to say he didn’t care if she had slept with another man?

What right did he have to care?

Besides, she didn’t even know the man in that video-how could she have slept with him?

He spoke of love, of not letting her go, but he had never truly trusted her. Why would she abandon the best man in the world, her James, just to go back and torture herself with him again?

“Lily…”

Covered head to toe in disguise, Elsa nearly lost her mind.

Even now, after seeing that video, John still wanted Lily back?

She shot to her feet, ready to scream at him that Lily was filthy, unworthy, a whore.

But she quickly remembered her own reputation was already ruined. If she exposed herself here, the mob of her haters in the audience would tear her apart. Clapping a hand over her mouth, she forced herself down, shaking with rage.

“Lily, come back to me.”

On stage, James and Lily’s fingers were tightly entwined.

Below, John reached up stubbornly with his hand, refusing to back down.

“John, I’ve said it many times-you’re sick. Go to a hospital and get treated. Stop making a fool of yourself in front of me!”

Lily clutched James’s hand even tighter. “I love James, and he loves me. I’m happy now. Why would I go back to you and suffer again?”

“Lily!”

John’s voice cracked with a hard edge of threat. “You lied to James about the baby being his. You cheated during your marriage. Do you really think he’ll protect you? Come with me! Only

I can clean this up for you!”

The audience was stunned.

Most men, after all, couldn’t stomach betrayal.

They had all expected James to turn cold after the video surfaced.

Who could have guessed he would stand firmly at Lily’s side, trusting, protecting, never wavering?

Even her ex, John, was offering to help her.

What kind of woman was this, to inspire such devotion from two powerful men, willing even to be made fools of?

At the same time, doubts began creeping in.

Lily’s ex was the wealthy, imposing John. Her current boyfriend was the noble, untouchable James.

Would a woman who had tasted such luxury really stoop to a greasy old man like the one in the video?

Murmurs rose everywhere.

“The woman isn’t her. It can’t be!”

“But her profile looks exactly like Lily’s, and the guy called her by name! Maybe John’s right- it was to spite him!”

Whispers collided and clashed, the hall divided.

“The woman in that video isn’t me, and I don’t need you meddling in my life!”

Lily’s voice cut like ice as she shot John a withering look, before turning back to the screen.

Her mind whirred. She needed to find differences, evidence.

The woman in the video had a mole on her chest. Another in a hidden place. Lily had none.

But she couldn’t strip her clothes off in public just to prove her innocence. That would only ruin her reputation further.

Just then, someone replayed the video from the beginning.

This time, in one of the rougher moments, the woman’s long hair swung loose, exposing the left side of her neck.

There it was. A dark mole, the size of a soybean.

Lily’s skin there was flawless, pale as snow, without a single mark.

“Not you?”

John’s bloodshot eyes narrowed, his voice dripping with mockery. “Ha! Do you really think anyone will believe that? You-“

“I believe the woman in that video is not Lily!”

James’s voice sliced through, cold and commanding, cutting John off. “I believe in her character. She would never do such a thing.”

He glared at John, his tone like iron. “If parasites have eaten your brain, go get treated. Stop polluting my girlfriend’s air with your nonsense.”

“James!”

John’s face darkened to a sickly green.

He thought James had lost his mind.

The evidence was right there, plain as day. And yet James still defended her?

Had the betrayal driven him mad?

Seeing James stand so firmly at Lily’s side made Marilyn’s chest burn with jealousy.

She had once set her heart on James. Even now, she hadn’t let go completely.

She had thought her beauty and allure were enough-that not only Victor, but James too, should treasure her.

But when she had thrown herself at him before, he had rejected her outright.

And now, Lily-ruined, supposedly soiled, disgraced-was still his treasure.

Marilyn’s nails dug into her palms.

She hated Lily so much she wanted to rip the skin from her bones.
