Sure enough, the screams from her female fans nearly shook the roof off.

“Lily, you’re so handsome! So handsome!”

Lily, I love you!”

“Lily, I want to have your babies!”

“Did you hear that? Even the young girls want to have Lily’s babies!”

Hearing the shouts from behind them, Grace laughed until her face wrinkled with joy.

Her Lily was simply outstanding, and she was proud beyond words.

“Our Lily doesn’t just sing opera beautifully, she sings everything beautifully!”

Zoey grinned so widely her teeth showed. “James is the luckiest man alive to marry Lily-he must’ve saved the galaxy in a past life!”

Saved the galaxy…

Grace, not to be outdone, added, “He didn’t just save the galaxy-James saved the entire universe!”

Henry, sitting beside her, nodded in agreement.

He had once resigned himself to only having a grandson-in-law, but now his grandson had gone from bent to straight and was about to have two children. If that wasn’t saving the universe, what was?

While Lily took the stage, both the Bale family and the Luke family clapped and cheered nonstop. Only Victor’s gaze kept straying toward Adeline.

He had seen her once before, when Elsa tried to frame Lily at the theater.

That night, he had looked at her twice.

There had been something different about her.

Most of the crowd that evening had been quick to condemn Lily or else stood aside in cold detachment, afraid of trouble.

Only Adeline had stood firm, stubbornly shielding Lily despite her own injuries.

Now, on stage in a costume that almost matched Lily’s, she sang softly with her head bowed, her very presence distant and untouchable.

But whenever her eyes lifted toward Lily, they gleamed with a quiet radiance, unexpectedly moving.

Victor’s heart lurched violently. He quickly looked away from her cool, delicate face, too flustered to keep staring.

But even with his gaze averted, his heartbeat was still a jumbled mess, leaving him shaken and unmoored.

It was such a strange feeling.

Looking at her, he felt as though he were back in that night of flushed cheeks and lost control.

But that night, the girl had not been her-it had been Marilyn.

To let his thoughts wander toward Adeline was a desecration of her, a betrayal of Marilyn.

He had touched Marilyn. He had promised to take responsibility for her. His life no longer permitted him thoughts of romance or desire.

“Lizzy…”

In the back rows, wearing a mask, Simon suddenly shot to his feet.

When he and Lizzy had clung to fife together as children, she had sung for him-opera, songs, even her own adaptations.

Even when her voice had later grown hoarse and ragged, he had found her singing unbearably beautiful.

He had wanted to listen to her for the rest of his life.

And now-was it just his imagination?-the girl on stage, sleeves swirling as she sang in that operatic voice

“Ahhh! Lily is amazing! Adeline is so beautiful!”

“Lily and Adeline are a match made in heaven!”

“Lily and Adeline, get married right now!”

On stage, Lily and Adeline leaned gently against each other as they sang with deep emotion. The screams of the shippers below nearly split the air apart.

But then, the background screen behind them suddenly shifted.

The elegant duet gave way to a grainy video-an obscene clip of a man and a woman tangled together with nothing on.

The man was balding, pot-bellied, short and greasy, his sleaze oozing through the screen itself.

The woman was wild, flirtatious, brazen in her embrace.

And her exposed profile looked shockingly like Lily’s.

The man grinned lewdly as he grabbed at her. His voice was unmistakably vulgar: “Lily, my darling, now that you’re carrying my child, I’m so happy! But every time I see you with Mr. James, I get so jealous… Still, for our child’s future, I’ll swallow the pain and let you spend time with Mr. James. As long as the Luke family believes the baby in your belly is his, their fortune will belong to our son sooner or later!”

The video cut off abruptly.

Gasps and screams rippled through the audience.

The meaning couldn’t have been clearer.

Everyone knew Lily and James were a couple. Netizens had been urging them to remarry, to have children.

And now this-Lily was pregnant, yes, but the video implied her baby belonged to this repulsive old man, not James.

For the fans who adored their pairing, it was like being struck by lightning.

“What’s going on? Wasn’t Lily with Mr. James? How could she end up in bed with that creep?”

“Lily’s pregnant? And the baby’s not Mr. James’s, but that disgusting man’s?”

“That guy looks so gross… what could she possibly see in him?”

The performance ended. Just as Lily and Adeline were about to step off stage, the screams rang out, and they heard the man’s voice echoing through the hall.

They turned instinctively.

On the massive background screen was the frozen image of the man, his belly bulging like he was seven or eight months pregnant, clinging to a woman.

To make matters worse, their bodies were still visibly connected.

And in the haze of dim light, that woman’s profile looked exactly like Lily’s.

A chill like ice shot through Lily’s heart, freezing her from the inside out.

She didn’t even recognize the man in the video. And the woman wasn’t her-her body, her figure, so many details were completely different.

But the lighting, the angle, and that single exposed profile were enough to make it look like her.

And with the man calling her name again and again, how could people not misunderstand?

“Lily, I believe you. The woman in that video isn’t you!”

Adeline, fearing some crazed fan might rush the stage to attack Lily, immediately pulled her behind her in protection.

The moment Lily felt her hand clasped firmly in Adeline’s, much of the cold terror in her chest eased away.

She had already recognized her.

Adeline was Jaime-the little girl she had met years ago while doing charity work with the Jiang family in the countryside.

Back then, she had even given Jaime a handmade charm.

Now Jaime had changed her name to Adeline. Lily knew she didn’t want to recall the pain of the past, so she had never brought it up.
