He’s coming down from a high. His arms tighten around me, as if afraid I’ll run. His lips are in my hair, his breath warm against my skin.

“I like this,” he murmurs, his words a soft echo of a memory from Savannah.

“Me too,” I whisper against his skin. His heart is still racing, and I lay there, listening to the rhythm, until it begins to slow.

I slip into the bed beside him, cuddling up to him. His arm wraps around my waist, pulling me closer.

“You do know you broke your headboard?” I glance at the damage, and he follows my gaze.

He laughs softly. “Well, I can always get another one. Good to know I can turn into a beast when we’re together.” He winks at me, his smile as captivating as ever.

Knox buries his face into the crook of my neck, his laughter vibrating against my skin as he teases, “You’re going to have to cover those love bites I gave you, baby d-

“What?!” I exclaim, pulling away from him. “Knox! You did not give me love bites! You’re such an ass!” I make a move to get up and inspect the damage in the bathroom mirror, but he tugs me back down into the warmth of his chest, grinning down at me.

“I couldn’t resist, baby doll.”

“Knox! That’s not funny! I’m going to have to hide these from everyone! Why would you do that?”

“Because I wanted to…

“Why? You’re so annoying! I’m mad at you!”

“Why not? I don’t want anyone else giving you them. You can’t stay mad at me, I’m adorable,” he says, flashing me a grin that’s so charming it’s almost impossible to resist. Almost.

“That’s not for you to decide, Knox! I stopped talking to you for months, let’s not forget that! So yes, I can stay mad at you.”

I turn my back to him, pulling the covers up around me in a huff. I feel him prop himself up on his elbow, his chin resting on my shoulder as he peppers my neck with soft kisses.

“How could I forget? You drove me nuts when you didn’t speak to me. I hated every minute of it. Come here, baby doll-” He tugs on my shoulder, pulling me onto my back, his body hovering over mine.

“I-I just want you all to myself. I didn’t think, I just did it. I never thought I’d be in this position with you, and now that I am, I’m taking every opportunity I have before we go back. Because it’ll be hard for me when we’re back in Savannah. Now that I’ve had a taste, I’m going to find it hard.”

“Because of Kyle, my brother and your best friend… I get it if you don’t want to be around me after this -” I say, contradicting my own feelings.

“No, that’s not what I meant, Alex. I want to be around you. I want to be able to hug you, to hold you, to kiss you, and to date you. But I don’t want to rush into it. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable. I want you to want this. If you don’t want to date now, I can wait-“

“I’m not going to make you wait-“”

“I’d wait for you, Alex,” he says, his voice so confident and sure that it takes me by surprise. He’d wait for me?

“I understand you’ve just come out of a relationship and are not sure of what you want. I get that. But 1 know what I want, what I’ve always wanted.” He punctuates his declaration with a soft kiss on my lips that sends a shiver down my spine.

I can’t help but smile. “I’m still mad at you for giving me these,” I say, gesturing vaguely to my neck.

He leans in, his nose brushing against mine. “You’ve always been so stubborn. It drives me crazy how stubborn you are… but I love that about you. And I… love… every… single… bite… I’ve… given… you.”

He punctuates each word with a kiss to my neck, revisiting the same spots a few times. I snuggle into him, his strong arms wrapping around me as his lips rest on my forehead. Our legs are tangled together under the crisp white sheets in his chilly room.

The cold makes me burrow deeper into his warmth. “I should turn down the temperature more often if I get these cuddles from you, baby doll,” he teases, making us both giggle as I snuggle even closer to him.

“Goodnight, Knox,” I murmur, the exhaustion finally catching up to me.

“Goodnight, my beautiful baby doll,” he whispers back, his voice the last thing I hear before I drift off to sleep.

“Miss, may I offer you a beverage? Breakfast will be served shortly,” the redhead flight attendant asked me with a polite smile. Out of all the crew, she was the only one I found likable. Unlike the others, she wasn’t dismissive or rude.

Her hair was neatly pulled back into a sleek bun, tucked under her airline cap. Her lips were outlined with red lipstick, and her face was flawless. Her voice was so soothing, I could easily drift off to sleep listening to her.

She wore a spotless, creaseless uniform in red and black.

“Um, do you happen to have lemonade? It’s okay if you don’t,” I replied, offering her a tired smile.

I had slept wonderfully last night, but this morning had been a whirlwind. We had overslept and had to scramble around the apartment to pack. We were both tossing items into our suitcases haphazardly.

Ellie and Derek had walked in on us in bed this morning because he wasn’t answering his phone. They found us cuddled up together, naked. Needless to say, we scarred them for life. But they couldn’t resist making a few jokes.

I couldn’t help but admire him as he slept. His face was a mix of boyish features and rugged masculinity. Even in sleep, he was undeniably attractive.

I woke up feeling euphoric after the release I experienced last night. I woke up with my cheek resting on his chest and his arms wrapped protectively around me. It had been a while since I had been held so intimately.

“We have both pink and original lemonade. I would recommend the pink-it’s delicious and refreshing for the morning,” she suggested. I nodded and thanked her as she turned to ask Knox if he wanted a drink.

He ordered the same as me, and we waited for her to bring our drinks. As she walked back to the cabin to check on the food, I reached for my camera.

I leaned over Knox to take some pictures out of the plane window, captivated by the varying shades of blue in the sky.

He tapped his lap and said, “Come sit here so you can see out better. I’ll help you. I want to see your photos.” I climbed onto his lap, earning a chuckle from Ellie in the row ahead of us.

I leaned into the window and began to click the shutter on my camera.

“Twist the lens until you see it focus better. Is it focused now?” he asked, his voice resonating in my ear. I carefully adjusted the lens until the composition was clear.

His deep voice sent chills down my spine. I couldn’t help but smile when I felt his hand rest on my butt.

He gave it a light pat, and I turned to look at him, only to see a cheeky smirk on his lips. I raised an eyebrow, daring him to do it again. If he did, I was prepared to slap him.

He took the challenge and gave my butt another slap, adding a squeeze for good measure. I put my camera down on my lap and whispered in his ear.

“You’re feeling brave, aren’t you? Do that again, and I’ll tease you until you can’t take it. Don’t challenge me, Carter. I always win. You’re not strong enough when it comes to me. And I will slap the shit out of you, sexiest man alive or not.”

I gave him a seductive smirk, and he leaned in to kiss me passionately before pulling away.
