Chapter 173 – The Omega Destiny

“You do not bring she-wolves back here,” Amani says as she runs her hand over my blanket. My one pillow is in the center of the bed. Will she sleep next to me? Of course, she will, we are mates, and she cannot sleep in the recliner.

I’m Noticing a Patternas

I just know that she is going to ask me for a pillow.

The changes that will come into my life now that I have a mate are big, and I’m not too sure Fean handle them.

“Never.” I allow her to make assumptions regarding my sex life. “Would you like to go eat? I attempt to change the subject and the scrutiny on my current living situation.

“Ummm….sure,” Amani replies, hesitantly. She probably feels I piled on a lot of crap for her to deal with that she did not sign up for.

I haven’t even begun dumping things on her. I do not want to think about her reaction if I decide to tell her why I live to such an extreme. However, she is my mate and deserves to know.

I do not like it.

I have no desire to talk about it either.

Cyrus

I often experience many of Raven’s emotions through our bond. Mainly murder, anger, hatred, lust, hunger, lust, murder….probably in that order, but right now there is something different.

Sorrow.

“I need to leave NOW. Something is wrong with Raven.”

“Take my car.”

“It isn’t here. I’m taking your bike.”

“What do you mean my car is not here? I drove it here.”

“My girl borrowed it.”

“I have the keys.”

“You’re hilarious. I’m leaving.” I close the mind-link to Thane and dart out of the conference room. We have been in a video call all damned day with an alliance Alpha while simaltenously running recon on their pack. The whole damn situation is exhausting.

I peel out of the parking lot, racing to Thane’s. Raven fails to answer my mind-links, which means she doesn’t want to talk or can’t.

I hurried through the door, causing Ayla to scream. I hear “My pickle!!!” and growling as I head up the stairs. I have a feeling I am moments away from her wolf taking over and frying my brain for whatever just happened.

Entering our room as quickly as I do does not startle Raven in the slightest. She is sitting in a chair, looking out the window, wearing a look of utter sadness.

I don’t like it.

“Fireball. Fireball!” I call her name, but she doesn’t turn as I walk toward her. I grab the chair and turn it toward me as I bend down on one knee at her level. She turns her head to look in the opposite direction.

“Will you tell me what is wrong? I can feel you.” I try a gentle approach.

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“I don’t care what you want,” I respond. At least I’m honest, but growing less gentle as seconds tick

Did something happen to Armando?*

Who the hell is Armando?”

“I’m trying out names for our opossum.”

“The tail tumbler is fine.”

“Where is it?”

“In Ayla’s boob crack. Honestly, I think she has forgotten it’s there, and I’m seeing how long it takes for her to notice.”

“Damn. Thane will cut my hand off if I touch it after.”

That earns me an eyeroll, but not my typical Fireball banter, I enjoy. The lack of cursing and threatening is concerning.

“Will you please tell me what happened?”

“We went to get a burner phone to call my dad.” Raven looks away, and I try to suppress the anger rising within me at the lack of self-preservation these two she-wolves seem to have when they are together. Phones can be traced to some extent, and we are trying to connect all the dots without any complications.

We have enough complications now.

“Okay. Did you obtain the phone?”

“Yes.

“Did you use the phone?”

“No.”

“Are you upset at the thought of using the phone?”

“Ayla used the phone.”

“Ayla called your dad?”

“Yes.”

“What did you learn from the conversation?” The pang of sorrow that hits my chest again aches.

I learned that he is well aware of what happened to me, which would mean my mother is as well

“Walt, how do you know that?”

“I had Ayla call the pack office, impersonating a friend I made at combat training under the ruse that I had missed our monthly phone call, and she had let it slide for a while and grew worried. He told her I was away at training, and I had just called him recently asking him to pass along the message that if Latisha was to call, that I was fine. It was a recycled story I had heard him use before.

I sit back on my heel now, caging Raven in the chair with my hands on the armrests.

“Are you sure he wasn’t just covering, not to worry your friend?”

“No. I could tell by his tone. He was void of any emotion, and my friend is dead.”

“Are you sure your mother knows?”.

“She is best friends with the Luna and knows everything about my father’s business. She has always cared more about the pack than me. Same with my father. They wanted a strong Alpha pup. They failed to specify gender, I guess, and never got over it.”
