Calvin waved that off, “Don’t concern yourself with that. Our divorce was already publicised and Wil stated it was amicable, that we just had different things we wanted in life, and so we went our separate ways. He’ll be able to spin it as…” she watched Calvin sigh, “That I didn’t want you to be an author, and we disagreed over it.
That’s what saw us separate. The man has the gift of the gab. He’ll sort that out. Don’t concern yourself with it.”
“How did you explain the searching for me?” she asked.
“Exactly what it was. I put you on that plane and felt responsible for your death.” he murmured. “There is not a single lie in that,” he stated, and leaned back in his chair. “Though Marilyn, I foresee only one issue with the truth coming out.”
“And that would be?” she asked.
“The press are all going to want to know, if we’re back together. That is going to be the very first question that is asked after Wil tells them all the details. It will not be you up there at that press conference. Nor I. Best to let Wil handle that one. He also knows quite a few of the local reporters and has a fairly good report with them.”
“I’m guessing you’re not going to do it, because of what happened six months ago.”
“Correct.” He nodded. “I don’t want them to be distracted by that and bring that up, only to focus on the fact that we have finally found you. That you are, in fact, Marrin, keeping them on the here and now, curious as to whether you and I…” he left it unsaid.
She knew why, because he’d already told her he wanted to get back together, and from that article the Houston press also seemed to want to know if that was on the cards as well.
“The twins will be the other thing they talk about.” Calvin told her and leaned forward in his chair. “So, that can’t be skipped over. I’ll advise Wil to state you didn’t argue about getting a DNA test on them, when we found out you had twins that were seven and approached you with what we suspected. Again, that is all the truth. I’ll have him state that you’ve never once, since knowing I was their dad, which confirmed you’re actually Marrin, because I was faithful, denied me my rights to get to know them and that’s how we’re here getting along right now.”
She sighed. “It’s a right mess Calvin.” She muttered.
“Yes it is, but we’ll get through this. It’ll blow over like everything does, one press conference and maybe a week or two of articles. No different to when we got married and no one knew about it.” He smiled a little. “It’s manageable if handled the right way. “Wil is good at that.”
She could only nod her head. “Call Wil.” She sighed.
Wil
He was sitting at a table on the risen platform of the press conference room at C.R. Technology and alongside him was Liam, who Calvin had flown out here on his private jet. The press were all over that as well. They were tracking everything to do with Calvin’s movernents, right down to where his plane was. They also knew that both Calvin and Marilyn were currently holed up at Cliffside.
There were reporters currently camped outside the estate, and so they’d decided it was best to have both sides; Calvin and Marilyn’s legal team here today, to present all the information that was about to be released to Houston and likely the world being who Calvin was, and the circles he moved in.
It had been three days since they’d been seen together, and Wil had announced on the afternoon of the 1st, that a press conference would be held later in the week regarding what was going on. If they could be patient for a few days, everything would be explained to them.
Marilyn had not returned to Virginia with the boys, seeing as she couldn’t get out of the estate without the press knowing, there was only one way in and out; via the front gate, something he knew Calvin was now working on trying to rectify as well. Because Marilyn was adamant about trying to keep the boys out of the direct line of press, as she had always done.
There were a lot of things to be explained here today, and he and Liam had worked long, hard hours to get their wording right and have both Calvin and Marilyn agree with it all. Now, as the press sat waiting, he stood to hush them, and he introduced Liam to them all as Marilyn Riddley’s lawyer. That they would both be here to give them the information that the press wanted about if Marilyn was in fact Marrin, Calvin’s missing ex-wife.
Calvin hadn’t left the estate since the 1st, and the press knew it as well. He wasn’t coming into the office at all, but they knew who was coming and going. His parents had turned up at the estate on the 2nd and were still there. Kay had refused to leave, stating she was there for moral and emotional support for both Calvin and Marilyn, and had also kept the twins occupied when it was needed.
The press didn’t know that Calvin had cleared his January Callender months ago, so the man didn’t have to come into the office at all. Their hovering here at C.R. Technology was of no use.
The moment his introduction was over, questions were fired at him. He knew it was coming and was prepared for it. He raised a hand to quiet them, “I’d like you to sit quietly and only ask questions at the end. Liam and I will answer your questions, if you still have any when this is over. Though I must warn you what you are about to learn and see,” he indicated to the projector screen, “is not going to be pretty or for the faint of heart.”
“Please do not photograph anything that is up on the screen today,” Liam stated. “Copies of certain pictures agreed upon by my client for the press, will be made available at your request. My client, Marilyn, is unhappy about this but has reluctantly agreed to allow this due to the circumstances.”
